I've always liked the idea that Pandora's power is basically just perception manipulation, and she's bluffing about being able to actually rewrite reality; She made Geuse and Pandora percieve Regulus being there, and Regulus percieve himself as being there, but he never actually was, and thus, none of the damage they inflicted on each other or the landscape actually happened. Geuse absorbing the Sloth Witch Factor, though, did, because that's an action he took of his own free will, albeit under false pretenses. That's how Pandora operates, I think; Her power doesn't actually allow her to rewrite reality or directly control anything, or else she could just rewrite reality so that things go exactly how she wants. She has to manipulate people into taking the actions she wants instead, and just pretends that her power is absolute. It's presentation without substance, or, in other words, vanity.

Ah yes, Pandora. Witch of a forgotten sin. And one of the greatest terrors I have seen here. "Bishop Corneas should not be here..." Spoiler, but mostly history below here. The 8 deadly sins were Pride, Wrath, Greed, Gluttony, Sloth, Lust, Vanity and Melancholy. Vanity and Melancholy were later deemed as redundant and lumped in with others, Melancholy being spiritual sloth for example, but Vanity was split across Pride and the new sin Envy. Given how Envy, and Vanity are so intrincicatly connected in the real lore, I am so looking forward to whatever Pandora and Satellas connection might be.

I don't know about how the anime is going to handle it, but in the novels it was explained with Pandora's introduction (and also Christian history) that vainglory and melancholy used to be parts of the sins, but were considered indistinct from pride and sloth respectfully. So it's not as if there are more, but I think I remember the wording being that they were unofficial sins of old.

Once again, the Archbishops are *not* connected to the Witches of the same sin at all. The anime cut Subaru asking Echidna about the Archbishops were her response was confusion, not knowing what an Archbishop even is. Also Vanity and Melancholy used to be part of the deadly sins but faded out over time as they're very similiar to the existing 7 In regards to Pandora the narration in the source describes her as "abnormally beautifull" and it's *heavily* implied she's the true leader of the witch cult that remains in the shadows also Witch Factors are what makes one a Witch and gives them the Authority of the respective sin, they do not come from an existing Witch, only a dead one, hence there not being an Archbishop of Envy because Satella is still alive. Everyone already said it but Regulus called himself Greed last episode Edit: Mods if you even exist please relay this and other peoples info to the bros so they don't theorize on completely wrong or missing information

I'd assume the Witch Factors are what was left behind after Satella was done feeding on the other witches. She probably couldn't absorb the core of their essence or whatever. One witch probably can't have two Factors, I'd guess. Hence there not being any Archbishops of Envy or Vanity- the witches themselves are still alive. If Pandora were somehow killed, then someone else might possibly take her Witch Factor and gain a similar power to hers, though not necessarily the same personality. Though I'd guess that if your personality doesn't match the Factor, like with Geuse, the results are... less than optimal.

Some fun facts about Regulus and the Witch Cult that were cut from the novel - Regulus have came to this forest to claim Fortuna as his 79th wife - The witch cult used to be divided among 2 factions, one moderate lead by Petelguse and the other one being the radical one lead by Regulus - Regulus claims that no matter who his enemy is he stands no chance in the fight against him ( using Sword Saint and Dragon as examples) - Also in the cut content from the season one the Regulus have been mentioned for single handedly destroying the great fortified city.

12:00 - 12:03 There's something about her yelling out these things and saying "I'll be a good girl" that just makes me burst into tears every time. It's just so raw and desperate that it gets to me. It made me cry the first time I watched it and it made me cry now, even with the episode split like this, so I just need to shout out the voice actress for Emilia to the ends of time, as well as the animators and Tappei as well, because that just shows me it's phenomenal writing. There's a very important detail revealed in this episode that's lost in translation. The Echidna that Subaru and Emilia have met in the Sanctuary uses the identifier "boku" to refer to herself. However, the Echidna in Ryuzu's memories uses "watashi." The translation translates both as "I," and while technically correct, they do have different meanings. "Watashi" is more formal and generally used by women. "Boku" is casual and usually only used by teen boys or younger. And one does not switch between them without reason. Combined with the fact that we never see Echidna's face in Ryuzu's memories, it seems that there's still a piece to this puzzle that we're missing.

Its interesting that Satella can reverse time with Return by Death, Pandora can somehow affect causality or time as well, Regulus seems to have some sort of invincibility, Betelguese could hop bodies upon death, and Echnida attempted to make cloning but succeeded in making some sort of Limbo Sanctuary. The Witches/ArchBishops seem to all have some sort of immortality.

In Christian theology, there were originally 8 Cardinal Sins; the 7 we're familiar with, plus Vainglory (Vanity). Vanity was folded into Pride by Pope Gregory as he felt Vanity was just a manifestation of Pride. For context, Vainglory specifically meant the idea that your accomplishments are through your own efforts and you give no credit to God while Pride meant that your goals are for your own benefit alone and you give no consideration to anyone or anything else (including God). Pre-Christianity, the prototypes were generally set in the Classical world as opposed bad extremes with virtue being a balance point between them. For example, Cowardice and Recklessness were both considered bad traits for the soul while Bravery in the middle was considered a virtue. Christianity transformed that into a model of polar opposites with sins on one side opposed by virtues on the other side. Also, regarding Sloth... Melancholy (Latin: _Acedia),_ basically referred to spiritual depression or a feeling of disconnection from God; the feeling that your prayers and spiritual practices just aren't getting through, that your love for God just isn't being received, so why bother. Later, that became Sloth which incorporated all kinds of lack of diligence, both spiritual and physical, often thought of as simple laziness, though it's more like depression.

Ok so I hope this doesn't count as spoilers since it was explained in earlier regarding witch factors. Regulus's invulnerability is born from his own authority of greed, as he is an archbishop. Notice how his "immortality" so to speak, is different from Pandora's. While we saw her die and come back, Regu had his neck rotated 180 degrees and just put it back where it was with no real indication of it even affecting him. So Pandora can die and come back using her authority (presumably), but Regu just doesn't die/get affected by anything? Interesting. And as some other people have pointed out, authorities come from witch factors, seeing how Geuse manifested the unseen hands upon putting the sloth witch factor into his body, despite not being compatible. This means that Regu has the greed witch factor and Pandora has the vanity/vainglory witch factor (I assume, but there's so little info on her) and the only difference is that they’re conpatible so it doesn’t destroy them.

(NO SPOILERS HERE) So there seems to be a lot of assumptions with the theory crafting so I'd like to establish some things for anyone interested, so confusion doesn't set in: 1.) The witches are NOT patrons of the archbishops. It is in"sin"uated (xD) that all of the archbishops are loyal to Satella. At the very least petelgeuse was and we can roughly extend that to at least mean they don't serve their associated witch 2.) Regular Cornyass is in fact the archbishop of greed this is stated several times throughout the second season. 3.) In real world theology there are more than the original 7 deadly sins. 2 more were cut from the list: melancholy and vanity/vainglory. Apathy is mentioned as well but is considered part of melancholy. Pope Gregory when making the list for the 7, decided that melancholy was part of sloth, and vanity part of pride, and so he cut them. But they are part of the original list 4.) Just another point of note: Geuse apologizes to Flugel when he takes in the witch factor. This has to be an important lore piece. As of this season we have only heard of him twice, the other being in reference to Flugel's tree. Also Fortuna mentions that if the seal is opened that "the world WILL end this time" this makes me think maybe Satella is in there? Lore says that she destroyed half the world before so if we assume that part of the lore is accurate... With all of that said, some theory crafting I've done makes me think that the witch of vanity, trying to rid herself of all the sins to become pure, created the witch factors from herself to get rid of them. The reference to "Pandora's box" could also refer to the boxes like Geuse's that he opened up. This is just a base to start the thought train on, but an interesting one! (Edited for grammar)

Interesting note that so far, all the Arch bishops plus Subaru have been named after Constellations or Stars, and all the Witches have been named after classical myths, except Carmilla which I suspect was named after the early female vampire novel, and Satella which is another astrological name. And Pandora is definitely referencing the Pandora's box myth, in which all the sins are released into the world, with only Hope remaining. I don't know how it all connects yet, but there seems to be a lot of allegory going on and underlying themes.

Also just for additionaly trivia: IF stories at this point reached: Sloth IF - Rem escaped with Subaru season 1 episode 18. Pride IF? - Subaru never called Reinhard for help in Season 1 episode 1. Greed IF - Subaru agreed to Echidna's contract in Season 2. That's all for now. It didn't really clarify or reveal anything, but I liked doing it for fun.

They might not have been intentionally malicious but they lead to so much death and suffering that the distinction between evil and not is mostly semantic. Betelgeuse was given the title Archbishop of Sloth from Pandora this episode, because he became the holder of the Sloth witchfactor. It wasn't said anywhere that Echidna is an elf. She doesn't have pointed ears. In fact she said she hates Emilia and implied hatred of Elves themselves. I... This may be on me, but I still don't get that "Emilia is a vessel for Satella" point you keep bringing up. Did it stem from somewhere and I don't remember? Cause the way you talk about it, it's like it's confirmed in some way, and I'm kinda lost on that. (especially since there are so many counterpoints that point to them being completely different people). It was said that Satella devoured all the Witches a long time ago. There is no Archbishops that "follow their witches of sin". The Witch Cult follows only the Witch of Envy (an not even that since they follow the fake gospels that they believe are Satella's words of instruction). Emilia being a Vessel was mention in season 1 by Petelgeuse. Also, the only one who follows Satella is Petelgeuse. The Rest are following Pandora.

Puck has always been referred to in male pronouns in both the anime and novels, so yes he is a boy. Also, Emilia refers to him as her father sometimes too.
