I think they had kuwa react to toguro carrying the stadium to show kuwa doesn't know how strong yusuke is so he thinks even if he wins vs elder yusuke dying to toguro is inevitable and thus they all die anyways including his sweet yukina...the flex was to scare him

ME: **nervous laughter** This fight has always stuck out to me -- Kuwabara was my favorite in the manga as a kid, so I was obsessed with this fight! The Toguro brothers are such iconic villains -- I can't wait to see their reactions to the next few episodes!

Elder Toguro giving the puppet show about Genkai always gives me chills especially with how twisted his version of the events are. The eerie atmosphere of this fight is just off the charts. My heart also broke for Kuwabara when he learned no one told him the truth about Genkai :(

Elder Toguro up to this point was a literal prop. I don't think he even actually spoke until a few episodes back. THis did well to make the viewer forget about him compared to his brother who gained more focus.... just to make it all the more shocking just how pwoerful and terrifying he is now. Nott only is it possible that Elder Toguro CAN'T die, but he's a sadistic monster who loves to toy with people as he lords over them with his strength. Toguro has been implied to be a fairly deeper character up to this point with complex motives and desires, so contrasting that is his more simple and more classically villainious brother. Andd not only does Elder's powers give him immortality, but he can reshape his body however he wants in whatever horrible, grotesque manner he wants, its not jut limited to making 'tentacle powers' or making himself into a sword. Out of every villain so far, he's the MOST viscerally horrifying and scary, and doubtlessly the most cruel (yeah, even worse than tarukune, rando and the child eater). For having spent so long under the radar, this episode proves he's a standout villain, an Kuwabara needs all can to beat this monster.

Another memory when this show first aired in Brasil when I was a 6 years old kid in 1997. My mom saw kuwabara bleeding and tried to stop me from watching cause the show was too violent and I beg her to let me see the rest cause Kurama lost his fight and kuwabara couldn`t lose. Awesome reaction guys.

The sadistic younger brothers voice was really well done in my opinion. Kuwabara finding out Genki has died from an enemy rather than a friend was messed up but I get why Yuusuke and them felt he couldn't handle it but they should have trusted him. He is def the baby face of the group though.

Honestly when first watching the anime I always did get a little pissed that Kawabara would get bodied so much but after several re-watches and reading the manga I think it was definitely a narrative choice on Togashi’s point to build up his arc here cause and show ge really is the heart of the team

Kuwabara not sensing Genkai's passing makes no sense to me. Kurama and Hiei both detected her passing without being explicitly told but the most spirit sensitive of the group could not? I'd like to think he mentally blocked what he was sensing but I also understand it could very well be a plot hole or lazy writing.

Elder Toguro should have lost the fight when he was taken apart by Kuwabara's Spirit Knives. Juri got to 8 before he started pulling himself back together, and it took much longer than two seconds for him to get up. If the posture from which Kurama finished Karasu doesn't count as up, then Elder Toguro lifting just his head to talk smack sure doesn't. He should have been counted out just as he was about to talk about 'being surprised for only a moment'. Would have been real satisfying for his 'mouth that only opens when he has something important to say' to be shut prematurely for once. Instead, Juri stopped counting when Elder Toguro told her to, even though he was still on the ground, which is a worse refereeing offence than what got Koto replaced, so Koto should definitely have had something to say about that. Does anyone really think the Younger Toguro wouldn't stop his brother from attacking the ref for doing her job?
