I'm Romanian and my gf is American (we live in RO). We travelled throughout Albania and were pretty shocked to see how much Albania resembles 90s Romania. Things are pretty grim, but there's a strange dissonance as downtown Tirana looks almost like Frankfurt banged Italy (modern skyscrapers, well designed infrastructure, large beautiful boulevards with remnants of Italian architecture, etc), but the rest of the city and country is stuck in the 90s (when most of the eastern block escaped that rapey socialism and corrupt politicians chipped away at what wealth was left leaving ordinary folk wondering what to do with freedom and capitalism - which is the only system that still gives me a semi). That being said, I wouldn't have made a fuss over 400 LEK (4 dollars). But who knows, maybe I'm wrong. Also, for the love of baby jesus, don't sit with dirty clothes you've travelled with on your bed. And don't put the luggage you dragged throughout mountains of shit on the freshly made bed either 😂

hello guys. i saw this amazing video and first of all thank you for visiting Albania. now let me explain why you HAVE NOT been scammed" 1- i can see than your taxi driver took you from Myslym Shyri and dropped you of at South Bus Terminal - that's the average price for that trip and those kind of taxi , taxi driver is employed so he doesn't get any of those money so he doesn't care to take a long ride for a higher amount you pay 2-that bus station he sanded you guys is South Buss Terminal so all the busses that go to Saranda Gjirokastra... etc start from there and that the way they get passengers by shouting their destination 3-price you paid is correct because the price you saw online is for the big buss, cheaper but slower. the buss you took is a bit more expensive but is faster and on the destination drops you off where you want so basically is like free taxi in your city destination. Now let me explain the other things: -not all the passenger that hoped on are for the same destination so random stops on the road are normal and again since is small buss can stop wherever you want to stop along the road -ArbnB host is from sardana and they know all the drivers because they aren't to many probably not more then 10 and the hole city knows them usually. even if you don't you can find their numbers so easily some tips for next time -pay for the buss on buss you don't need a ticket -if you need a taxi go on the street first and if you see 2/3/4 cars parked with their doors open approach them because they are illegal taxi and are cheaper (kind of uber) but always tell them your destination and ask how much before getting in ( if you like the price take them otherwise call a company) once again thank you for visiting Albania
@SOSASATSUNRISE2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for all the detailed information. This is the most helpful comment we have received. I do have a few further questions. Why did the ticket booth call us over and sell us tickets if we should have bought them from the driver? If we paid the correct amount, why did the driver give us money back when we asked about the price? Also, we paid 1300 lek for our bus from Sarande to Tirana. Is the bus cheaper going north or does each driver set their own price per trip? The bus system in Albania is difficult to understand sometimes. On the map, the bus station we arrived at was called North Bus Station at the time, but I can see now it says North and South Bus Station. Again, thank you so much for the explanation. We will return to Albania one day and now have a better understanding of how to travel through the country.
@klevismarku5692 жыл бұрын
@@SOSASATSUNRISE so in all your video that i saw the only guy that tried to tick you was that guy that you bought ticket from, first of all he is there only to collect money for parking so next time do not stop there at all thats why i said buy ticket from the buss driver. Abut the price he told you 3000lek for both and a bit higher on € and the buss driver gave you back 400 so you paid 1300lek each in both ways. Yes buss stations are a bit complicated because there are not proper buss stations but just busses and vans parked at same place And the most important thing map is very accurate but in Albania we don’t go much after the names of street , yes its a bit confusing but its easier for us. For example Mother Tersa square in Tirana we call it at the university because there are universities over there. One more thing we have a quote over there. We say that by asking you can find Istambul. So i strongly suggest that ask people on the road in english because a lot of young people speak english very well and I’m pretty sure that they will be to exited to help you. P.S: any time for everything about Albania do not hesitate to write me. I do live in NJ now so even the time wont be a problem 👍🏻

@SOSASATSUNRISE2 жыл бұрын
Hello! There are not too many scams to worry about. Taxis will often try to set a price before the ride but always ask to use the meter. If they say the meter doesn't work, find another taxi. To find accurate bus prices, we checked multiple travel blogs and vlogs and they all listed the same price. I would also ask your host or where ever you are staying for bus prices. Some of the comments on this video can tell you issues others have encountered as well. Ask questions, count your change, look at your receipts, and after all of that the best deterrent to scams is learning as you go a trusting your gut. Travel smart and have fun!

Idk when the prices you guys viewed online were posted but Albania, much like most of the world, has seen massive inflation this year. Only difference is, Albania already had the highest gas prices in Europe as it was but now it’s just getting insane. Albania doesn’t have massive oil companies like Shell and BP to get better deals. It costs a little over $8 a gallon in Albania right now. A GALLON! And ppl here in the states complain about gas prices. I know fair prices have gone up in recent weeks so it’s a big possibility they just haven’t updated the prices on the web/receipts. Who know, maybe you did get scammed but Albanians typically don’t mistreat our guests. I don’t know for sure but €30 to go from Tirana to Saranda seems fair.
@SOSASATSUNRISE2 жыл бұрын
We were wondering the same thing. A lot has changed in recent years with travel prices and we fully expected the driver to tell us prices went up and we would have accepted that answer. However, in our next video on our return bus ride back to Tirana, we asked the ticket office in Sarande if prices had changed and they said no. The price was 1300 LEK per ticket as we had researched. Our time in Albania was very enjoyable and this experience should not reflect the entirety of the country or its people. In an effort to not show Albania as a terrible travel destination, we refrained from showing the numerous interactions with taxi drivers who refused to use the meter and charged us much more than the ride should have cost. These incidents will not deter us from returning to explore this beautiful country further. We film our travels and give the best information we can. Unfortunately this was our experience while traveling through Albania.

@@SOSASATSUNRISE Maybe a mistake happened you cant know if it was on purpose or not..As far as i know its the first time i hear someone pretending to be scammed in Albania,and iam not saying its impossible but im saying its as possible as it is in Sweden or Germany..My comment wasnt about your tickets but it was in general from the comments that i saw in your chan nel and your replies to them.Besides that i wouldnt even mention 3 euros as a scam because i dont think someone would risk his job or his name for 3 euros,its simple logic that as i see you fail to follow sadly..You are in Europe buddy you are not in India,Latin America or Africa.We wont scam you for 3 euros if we will scam you it will be for thousand of dollars :P

If all your experience in Albania was overall scam and bad experience absolutely you can right on title any thing you want , but by watching your video for small ticket amount it is harsh you can mentioned on and many other people will get that opinion that don’t go to Albania they are all scammers

Hahah just got scammed as well! Wish have seen the video before I go there! They sold me 1700 lek for a ticket! Def next time will not rush at all!
@SOSASATSUNRISE2 жыл бұрын
Oh no! Sorry to hear that. I wonder if prices are increasing? Ask the bus station in Sarande what the cost of the ticket should be. If you find out the cost has in fact increased, comment back and I will put that information in the video description.

Different prices is understandable. We would have accepted a different price if prices did in fact change. We simply asked a question and were handed money back without any further explanation. Why give money back if the price paid was correct? Nothing wrong with asking a question and nothing wrong with telling us that is the correct price.

You didn’t get scammed, that’s the price now from Saranda to Tirana.

Omg These are not tourists ! 🤦🏻♂️ They come with pennies and all they concerned about “how much everything costs” 🇦🇱Albania should not allow hobos traveling in the country and setting up tents and littering the countryside .. unless they can prove they have a budget of 2000€ on them to spend ! Don’t let them in🙅🏻♂️
@SOSASATSUNRISE2 жыл бұрын
Oh my dear, we are not hobos and don't travel in tents... but that does sound like fun! Our channel does give information on how much we spend so other travelers know how much to budget to travel in each country. Thanks for watching!

@@SOSASATSUNRISE Yeah ok fun try that in your own country. Albania is interested in luxury tourism .. there are too many hobos and campers coming in and littering the countryside and the beaches. Poor Americans traveling here and trying to save a buck is counter productive on achieving the country’s tourism economic target.
@SOSASATSUNRISE2 жыл бұрын
We did do that in our own country for a year to see every national park. Lived out of 3 different vehicles and had a great time. Check out the humble beginnings of our channel for our hiking and vanlife videos 😀 Albania attracts backpackers because of how affordable travel is in the country and since Albania is not part of the Schengen, we had the ability to stay longer than 90 days.

@@SOSASATSUNRISE A 200km bus ride in the US costs at least 200$ and you are bargaining with the locals about a 200km route bus ride that only costs 10€ . And you wrote “Americans scammed”🤯That’s really embarrassing. Albania should limit or stop cheap tourists from coming in. Albanians must start a petition and ask the government to do something about this. Many will sign. Luxury tourists only. That will help the economy. Not this 🙅🏻♂️
@SOSASATSUNRISE2 жыл бұрын
I only asked the question since our research lead us to believe the price was less. We like to give accurate information on cost to our viewers so if the price had increased then that's OK. It was the driver's choice to give me money back and the price we thought the tickets should have been was the price we paid on our return trip back to Tirana. Sign a petition for better transportation options. Luxury travelers would never take a bus anywhere unless its a shuttle to the airport. Trains and planes for most. We enjoyed a lot about Albania. Our hosts were nice and the landscape was breath taking but it's a difficult system of travel for foreigners. This wasn't the first and only time we were over charged for transport, just the one that made it into a video.
