@@ElBandito Consider that he murder his own family at one point to keep secret, and later on he keep secret about his own son killing each other, I Honestly think, he is a villain. But I get that in 3 kingdom, those character are not view as villain, but hero, there is a reason for that. Cao Cao mean maybe cruel, but, it did stabilize his territory. And what the other hero did is also not far off from being cruel, it is a time of war and chaos afterall.

@@veasnatdm4861 About Cao Cao killing a family, that was only mentional in the novels--there is no historic basis for that. Dude was cruel, but the 3 Kingdoms novel went extra hard on making him look more villianous than he really was.

In ancient time, the alcohol they drink are not that alcoholic, often time, they prefer drinking alcohol to water, as they don't have a way to get clean water yet. Alcohol like the wine mention in the video is kind of like fruit juice, that is not as good as clean water, but still better than dirty water.

​@@veasnatdm4861Nah, wine during that time period are mostly made from grains like rice, sorgum and millet, meaning alcohol content can reach as high as 15% in some, perhaps max at 17% depending on the method they use. Distillation haven't become widespread yet though there are some archeological evidence that indicates that they might have it but it's inconclusive for now. They do have fruit wine but are limited as trade routes are not stable (bandits and rebels like Yellow Turbans, competing warlords, etc).

Very true, but I think they have a good purpose. By telling him why he should live after convincing him not to die, Liao was framing Guan Yu's state of mind not to just be focused on what to do instead of suicide, but how he should live. It gives him a better state of mind to be convinced from.

If you analyze it all the warlords have already rebelled against Cao Cao. Liu bei was a trouble maker . Seeking aid in every kingdom and talking nonsense about Cao Cao just to get the sympathy of the Warlords. Because of liu bei small brain , it’s very hard for him to understand Cao Cao actions . As the nature of life before if your just a low profile ( poor ) , your not equal to any middle or high class ( rich ) people! And Cao Cao was just a an ordinary commoner . No wonder all Warlords hated him !

Lol, in this scene, him avoiding eye contact is his way of showing respect. Guan Yu isn't arrogant, he's an idealist. Cao Cao exploits these idealistic views later on and escapes his death. In the earlier episodes (like during the coalition meeting), his expression shows that he views other warlords like dirt. Pay attention to his eyebrows and lips. Also, Zhang Liao is on the enemy's side. Showing too much facial expressions is a sign of weakness. Since Guan Yu is in front of his soldiers and in front of an enemy general, he can't be too friendly. As a leader, he needed to set an example for his followers. Kongming (Zhuge Liang) is the most disrespectful character in this series. Master of manipulation.

​ @AugustusCaesar His arrogance lead to his death, but my response was to OP who was making incorrect assumptions and misunderstanding the character in that particular scene. Idealists can be arrogant, but their nature isn't arrogant. Calling Guan Yu arrogant would be like calling every single character arrogant just because they were being arrogant in certain moments of the series. Yuan Shu, Cao Zhen and Ma Su are examples of arrogant characters through and through. They didn't have any particular ideals that they stuck to, and in their point of view, they were equal or better than everyone else despite their lack of achievements. By comparison, Guan Yu made grand achievements through blood, sweat and --tears-- which contributed to him becoming arrogant, but he isn't arrogant as a character. __I should make note to clarify that these are judgements on the characters for this tv series and not the actual people in history.__

His arrogance is actually driven by his oath brothers goal, he knows he is strong and he would never to kneel to his enemy of his brothers. Yet he is honorable, he knows if he choose to die while his oath brother are still alive, he would bow down to his worst enemy in order to rejoin his oath brothers. The problem if the brothers reunited is a harrowing one, first Liu Bei would gain a powerful general that obey his command and will complete his task without problem, second the chain of command will be tighten knowing that everyone who follows Liu Bei are willing to follow him and no deserter would be allowed, third a problem to Zhuge Liang since Guan Yu as a war veteran is far superior to Zhuge Liang and with Liu Bei clinging on Zhuge Liang rather than leading by his own could create a disaster that may causing Zhuge Liang's banishment since Guan Yu can easily convince Liu Bei rather than listening to Zhuge Liang. Cao Cao knows that the fall of Liu Bei would be short one since Liu Bei can't lead, Guan Yu is far away, Zhang Fei is just a drunkard and Zhuge Liang cannot be trusted since he may do drastic things on a whim, thus he would hold Guan Yu as long as he can to ensure Liu Bei tamed for a while.
