The police and the government tried to shut them down and failed, whole set of them came on top of the pops, scared the middle class and turned their kids into roadmen wannabes. I’m an 88 year old Titanic disaster survivor and I believe the theme of this song was copied from the dance halls and ball rooms of my youth. About half way through a dance, you would get what they called “the boogaloo half hour” where dancers would get 30 seconds each to impress the other patrons with their best dance moves. Quick step or jive, it was really up to you, as long as your moves were outrageous, or “boogaloo”, which was the term we used for excellence back then. Gentleman would often dance with an onion tied to their belts, which was the fashion at the time, and ladies would wear a handkerchief on their head. Thank you for your service Romeo Dunne
