Just stumbled on your site after watching your Nato strap shortening trick video. Very cool about the two coins. I have a larger wrist and thus my Sinn 556 IB is one of my smaller watches and thus, not sure if I will end up subscribing, but I wanted to say that you have a great collection. Again, even though I wouldn't likely get many of these watches, your Credor is INCREDIBLE!! The design and quality/construction is truly fantastic and if you got it for around 200 euros, that has got to be one of the best steals I have ever seen online. I know people will say that the design is going to seem too "inspired", but I do think that it can stand on its own and that bracelet and clasp are incredibly cool. Your vintage Seiko is also gorgeous! That is definitely a keeper as well! Congratulations on your pilot's license... once you start to make a bit more money... I suspect some of your comments about some of your watches "staying for a long time", including your Steinhart.... will not end up holding weight as your taste becomes more refined and your disposable income increases. For example... I do suspect that you will start gravitating to slightly smaller and thinner divers and thus I think your Steinhart will end up leaving your collection if you can afford something like a 37mm Rado Captain Cook as an example that will fit even smaller (and in my opinion better) than your Certina. Anyways... I should shut up. Just wanted to say... a fantastic start and congratulations on a great site (from the 2 videos I have seen) and your upcoming professional career in aviation.

Thank you for this comment, made my day! I really like the Credor too, it feels very unique to me for some reason. Thank you for the congrats, hopefully this pandemic will loosen its stranglehold on the aviation industry and that will happen at some point in my life :D You are probably correct about the Steinhart for example. It's a nice watch for the money, but it hasn't gained any sentimental value, which is crucial for me personally (when it comes to actual keepers). The Sinn on the other hand will probably never leave my collection, since it is symbolizes a personal milestone/achievement. The Steinhart and Certina have been great for opening up the world of smaller divers to me! The way the market trend seems to be moving at the moment, I suspect we will be seeing some great small-diver options in the upcoming years! Thank you also for the kind words about the channel, means a lot to me! :)

@@NordicWatchChannel I am definitely not knocking your Steinhart or Certina. For the money they are fantastic. I have a Squale GMT and I have kept it despite the "homage" part of it and it is a totally fine watch, but it lacks the character of all of the other watches that I own and definitely the watches that you own. And you will eventually find that there are watches that you keep going back to over and over again and those often are "unique" watches with respect to their design and the way the feel and their proportions. Your Sinn should never leave your collection. I bought my Sinn when I was in Australia for a year doing some further training there and it will always remind me of that. I have a Frederique Constant Manufacture chronograph that I bought after I finished my orthopedic residency and I lost it after less than 24 hours owning it. I put it on the top storage shelf of a train and forgot about it when I got off the train. I was sooo mad and distraught and after I knew it would never turn up, I bought another one. Now that I have refined my taste, it is a bit too big and I dont love it as much, but I am unlikely to get rid of it because the story that it tells. But... that is what I would continue to encourage... Get watches that tell part of your life story. You have an amazing collection in terms of best watches for their value (though I would consider a Hamilton Khaki mechanical for you - it is 38 mm and thin and good value) and moving forward, I would start saving up for watches that are minimum $1000 (unless you are buying vintage) and aspiring for these watches instead. That being said... that might be bad advice for a guy doing a youtube channel on watches as it might be hard to create more content. Anyways... Fantastic work! Keep it up and all the best!

I know exactly what you are saying with the Steinhart, Certina and Squale etc. Great value, little character. Oh no, that’s terrible what happened to your FC😂 But makes for a good story afterwards! Just like your preference has pivoted from the FC towards smaller watches, so has mine since my first mechanical watch (SNZF17). Even though I seldom wear it due to its larger size, it has so much sentimental value that I won’t ever sell it. Even less because it is worth so little money, so that’s an even worse trade-off. I’ll take memories over 100 bucks anytime🤓 I am constantly on the lookout for a good Hamilton Khaki deal, and it will certainly enter my collection at some point👍🏻 I will probably add another ”mid-tear” piece to my collection this year. As for the content, I will keep buying and trying out all kinds of affordable watches and many will come and go, it’s all good fun! Along the way, some might stick around etc😊 It’s a tricky combination to make content and collect watches, but I think I’m finding a nice middle ground😎 All the best!

The 556 is just a great looking watch! I have an older one from the time when there was none with numberals. (Back then they still had the 656 for that. But with the 556 they put lume on every minute index. No idea when or why they stopped doing that.) It is to this day the best looking watch in my eyes. It was my first auto, and after some time i bought a 857 for work, as i didn't want to scratch the 556. The 857 i have, has a tegimented case, and after 4 years of not really babying it it has no scratch in the casing or the crystal. Only in the bezel insert have i managed to get a little scratch. I don't get the problem with the AR coating getting scratched. I should have many of those scratches if that would be a problem. But i don't. (I mean i don't drag it across a stone wall or things like that, but i have to put my hands in electrical and electronics cabinets and housings. Sharp metal edges in there that not just cut skin, but leave their marks on watch casings and acrylic crystals for fun.) My 3rd Watch is a G-shock. Like you, i always thought they are way to big for my wrist. But in 07 i found a g-shock model (2900) that fits great and i bought it for legibility and the advertized 10 years battery life. (it still runs on it's first battery sitting on my arm while i write this, as i brought both my Sinn watches to get them serviced. Miss them) The funniest thing about buying the G-Shock was the young sales lady... She took the watch out of the Display they had and showed me. When i said i want to buy it, she opened a little cupboard to retrieve the original box and papers, but instictively threw the watch into the cupboard. (like if she wanted to throw trash into a bin) As soon as it left her hand she froze in shock realizing what she just had done. Frantically appoligized with a very red face and inspected the watch and gave it to me to inspect.(i think it was the only one of that model they had in stock) I had to laugh and tell her, that that's probably the only watch where this does not bother me and maybe could work as a sales argument. I think she felt pretty relieved after that. And of course the watch had no marks or anything.

I understand that the Certina brand is very popular in the Nordic countries. These watches are not sold through authorised dealers in North America and I find them exceptional value for the money. (I now own 4 🙂)
@NordicWatchChannel
@NordicWatchChannel 2 жыл бұрын
It seems to be quite popular! A little less among enthusiasts (or seems so to me), but really common sight in watch-stores. So I think very many ”normal” consumer buy Certina as a premium watch over here. Also common among watchnerds, but not in proportion to the amount you see in stores. That’s really surprising to hear! I would never have guessed that they aren’t sold by AD’s over there. Is that a sure fact? Very nice! What 4 models do you have?
@theprogressivegoldbug1134

Nordic Watch Channel I believe this year Hodinkee became an authorised dealer for a few Certina models. Over here, if you want Certina you have to buy either pre-owned or gray market. I own 2 DS podiums, 1 DS-4, and a DS-1 day/date. All these models have the Eta 2824-2 base movement (easier to regulate if you are a hobbyist). The newer powermatic movements are almost impossible for non-professional watchmakers to adjust/regulate.

@@theprogressivegoldbug1134 Nice collection! Ok, maybe Hodinkee will break the ice and the rest will follow😁 I didn’t know that about the powermatic movements. I don’t really do any fiddling under the bonnet myself. The only time I did I messed up a 7s26 pretty bad😂😂

Hi Anders, that is a lovely collection. I wish I had that sarb, guess I missed that boat. I really like the leijona, it's very beautiful. Would like to know more about this brand and is it available in UK??
@NordicWatchChannel
@NordicWatchChannel 2 жыл бұрын
I thought I had missed the sarb boat too, but they do show up every now and then for a reasonable price (300-500 EUR), at least in Finland. I’m not so sure you’ll be able to find Leijona in the UK.. but they are really abundent in Finland! You can get really beautiful ones for 50-100 euros. I paid 80 for this one and 40 (or 50) for the one on my previous SOTC! So maybe try to find some online in Finland and get it shipped🤔

Lovely Watch Collection! I have 8 G Shock and 1 Casio Enticer. After going through 100s of watches under $1000 available in India. I have shortlisted 4 New Seiko 5 which are Pepsi, Orange, Beige Dial and Olive Green Dial. I want to know whether these 4 watches are fine for Business Casual, Formal and some Casual Swimming scenario?

@NordicWatchChannel
@NordicWatchChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Depends a little bit on your personal style maybe? The srpe51 is a little bit more rugged than the elegant snkl41 in my opinion. Srpe51 is a little bit more expensive but it is a superior watch with regard to movement and water resistance. Also depends on your wrist size. If you have a wrist that is the same size or smaller than mine, I would gravitate towards the snkl41. Where are you from? I recommend joining enthusiast groups on facebook and joining local internet forums. I can only speak about the Finnish community, but in those groups I do see sarb033/035 go for less than 500 every month.
