Mets attendance was lower than it should have been this year partly due to the fact that they played pretty poorly in May and the weather, once again, was pretty bad during the beginning of the season and they had lots of doubleheaders.

If I were the Mets, I would try to sign Pete Alonso instead of Bregman or Walker. That would give the Mets a top four batting order of Lindor, Soto, Vientos, and Alonso. Not too shabby. One of the best things you can do in baseball is have a big year prior to hitting free agency, and one of the worst things you can do in baseball is have a down year before hitting the market so I think Pete definitely facing the consequences of that. Dude is only 30 had he had his typical 40+ hr and 110+ rbi season the offers would be pouring in but theyre sleeping on him right now. To me it’s a no brainer to bring him back and I think his down year might actually work to the Mets benefit as far as resigning him at what could turn out to be a relative bargain
@kamaka07Ай бұрын

The kid who caught the ball had a great story. He didn’t know he was going to the game. His parents put him in the car and told him he was going to the dentist. And surprise, he was going to the Word Series! And he caught one of the biggest home run balls of all time.
@Greenlion78129 күн бұрын
With respect to Max Fried, I don't think contract lengths have anything to do with the expectation that a player will have an impact in the later years anymore, they're just a method of structuring paying the player now. Offering up longer contracts to get to total dollar amounts is actually favorable for the team vs deferring money if you drill into the arithmetic as far as luxury tax (bc deferred money gets counted during the contract period present-value discounted, but tacking more years than what you expect to a contract applies that money later).

These ladies are the best but still haven’t cited a single non monetary reason why Soto chose the Mets. Free tickets, suites, administrative assistants for family members…these are all related to money and not to the Mets as a franchise. It’s absolutely fine to bag Soto with money. Why so much push back on that concept absent any ability to cite any other reason outside of money?
@SamanthaCrostonTV29 күн бұрын
Two other reasons. When I say “family,” you’re right that a part of that is Cohen taking care of his family monetarily. But isn’t that also showing a different level of respect for what was important to him? Also, Soto said from the start he wanted to be a part of a winning culture. I think he looked at the Mets and Yankees organization top to bottom, and decided not only did he like the people running the Mets better, but thought they had a better chance to win a WS in the next 5-10 yrs
@michaellopez911329 күн бұрын
@ I see your point and fair enough…ultimately Soto felt more comfortable with NYM whatever his reasons. But certainly affording so many courtesies to his family was a very wise reading of the room on Cohen’s part and likely was a factor in the final decision. On the second part, I agree. NYM has momentum and mojo right now and look to be very competitive. I’d love for you two to break down the pitching situation in Queens because as a LAD fan, I’m glad NYM has been on the sidelines with the pitching this offseason. Conversely, NYY has made some nice moves with Fried and now Williams. Has either NY team done enough to close the gap with LA? Time will tell! Great podcast though, you two are awesome!
@elliotperez63529 күн бұрын
On the Vientos issue.. He may not be a gold glove on 3rd base, but on the other hand we made it to the NLCS with him there. He's young hungry and I only see upside to his defense there on 3rd. Bring in any other Nolan, Bergman, etc. Older and you will only see decline in numbers and defense on a long contract.. The Mets goal is clear to build a dynasty why would you add old players to a Dynasty. Viento fits the model better than those other guys. Just my opinion.

I'm not sure Soto is worth that much money. That being said, if the Yankees want to keep good players they need to act like they care, like they value their players. Instead, the Yankees act as if they EXPECT everyone to be grateful that they get to play for the Yankees. There's a certain arrogance that seems to be in the Yankee blood, and at least in this case it cost them.
