As a LAD fan, I lived in Manhattan for 14 years (school + work). I hated the Yankees fans which are most of my friends at that time, so I rooted for the Mets. The Mets will always be my second team. In terms of Soto, no Dodgers fan would complain if he does sign, but most of us think the Dodgers could spend the Soto money to have a more well-rounded team: Adames, Teoscar, Treinen, either sign Snell/Fried or trade for Crochet, another elite bullpen piece, and Sasaki is last because his contract would have minimal impact.

Dodgers don’t care about Soto because they found ways to ensure he doesn’t go off in the playoffs and he’s not the X factor. Just walk the way or pitch him low and in. There were a lot of reports he was the main culprit of that 2023 SD team not making the playoffs. His defense is average and you can get 3 to 4 players for what he’s asking for. Is just not worth it. What we want is to make sure the Mets pay a lot of money for him and forget they still have a rotation and a bullpen to build. 😁

I'm a lifelong Dodgers fan and would love Soto but.. I think his salary would be too straining for the teams future. Unless he does a deferment like some of the contracts on the team, not as extreme as Shohei though, I don't think it's smart.

LAD fan here; I think there are two prevailing factors in why Dodger fans aren’t too hot on Soto: 1. His defense is holding him back from being an outfielder for the entirety of his contract. He’ll most likely need to be a DH at some point, and the Dodgers already have a pretty decent DH. 2. My fellow fans and I very much want to re-sign guys who just came off the books for LAD like Buehler and Teoscar first (Sasaki too but he won’t cost much). With that being said, Soto’s a generational offensive talent in the making and he’d make up for his defensive shortcomings by making the lineup one of the nastiest in baseball history. Being so, I would be happy for Mets fans if they picked him up. He fits into the Mets culture veeerrryyy easily IMO. He’s already proven he can play up to his potential in New York, and now he should do it for the more fun NY team.

The bottom line is his defense is a liability. To pay someone for the length of the contract that he wants is always going to be a top-heavy contract even though he's young. I can't see him in dodger blue nor do I see his attitude fitting the culture. His antics in the box already annoy me, much less if he was on our team I would be embarrassed with that kind of Little League foolery everytime he has an at bat. He will eventually either have to be a DH which we have for the next 10 years and i van only imagine how many digs he will moss at first taht will coat us at crucial times. If he in the 3-4 hundred million range, maybe. But he's asking for shohei dollars and does not bring to the table with shohei does. We could throw shohei in the outfield and he would be a gokd glover. He can pitch. He can hit. Soto only brongs one element to the table and thats not enough for the money he wants. Let someone throw that money away. If he couldnt do it with the padres stars, or the yankees stars, i mean...

Dodgers fan, back for more.😎⚾ On Soto and Sasaki, gotta say that even the most seasoned players downplay L.A.'s weather and lifestyle. In the NHL, you get traded to the Kings "to work on your tan."😎🌴 But...once players get here, they realize this town is dead-serious💯 but bright and warm, most days. Hollywood thrives. They end up liking it. (Insert bunch of names here.) It's a draw analysts ignore. That said, it doesn't kick in until after players get here. I think Soto stays in New York. Sasaki will end up a Dodger. Japan and Cali have always been tight, comfy, familiar. The Dodgers are fully ready to make Sasaki feel immediately at home.

The reason Dodger fans don't want SoDo is because he's not a clubhouse guy. Chemistry matters. Additionally he's been on winning teams with other superstars and has not produced except for a miracle run by the Nationals a few years back. He is not worth what shohei is worth nor does he have the ability. Also buying a guy that's bat first, makes no sense because he has horrible defensive skills. Why have a liability out in left field that doesn't have a good arm doesn't have a good first step, just to be able to have a bat which the Dodgers were able to basically mute during the World Series

Sorry but if success is his mission…. He would be a Dodger!

Dodger Fan here. Really enjoy hearing other team's perspectives. You ladies are doing a great job! As a Dodgers fan, I lean towards not signing Soto. Just take a look at the 2024 WS. We saw how important defense was. Soto looked like a mess in RF and I don't think we can have 2 OFs (Teo and Soto) in the OF at once. The Dodgers owner, Mark Walter, and the Guggenheim Group are literally worth $320 Billion, while Cohen and his investment firm are worth around $33 Billion, so I don't think the Dodgers are afraid of outbidding for Soto. Historically, Soto isn't the type of player the Dodgers go after. Soto has never had that "grit" that Dodger execs usually seek (ie Freeman, Rojas, Muncy, Edmon, Kike, etc.). Dodgers like versatility and good clubhouse guys. I don't think (as a Fan) I wanna break up that chemistry. I'd rather spend that $600 million on a high end SP, re-signing Teo, and add another bullpen piece. Look, if they sign Soto, no Dodger fan will be upset, but we have Ohtani and Betts locked up for 10+ years, they are great enough to build around. Plus, Dodger execs have a long history of not signing Boras clients. Soto is an offensive force, but the Dodgers offense is fine, pitching and health is always the most important part in running it back! Go Dodgers!!!!

One thing you guys don’t mention: the Mets have a more promising team than the Yankees at this point but Soto must be aware that if he joins the Mets he’s gonna have to face the dodgers every year in the NL.

I think Dodgers fans are reluctant to sign Soto because of how his contract will age. That contract along with Shohei's deferred money just seem like a bad business idea considering they'll both hold considerably less value ten years for now.

Really good run down of the top free agents with hardly a whiff of homerism. Kudos to Wenskoski for not giving in to her dark side while interviewing Murphy (a class act) and including it in the episode. I agree with Croston that it would be nice to have some Yankees fans in the comments section with their take on Soto's free agency. Even if it might be at odds with the current Dodgers fans lovefest in the comments section. The hosts had me so convinced that on the Mets as a landing place for Soto, maybe they should be sent in to close the deal. 🤔
