Күн бұрын

I went to Elmhurst, Queens to try Indonesian food for the first time. Watch me react to Soto Madura (Maduranese yellow beef soup) with beef tripe (cow's stomach) and tendon. I try teh botol (jasmine tea) a popular drink in Indonesia. I also try durian in bubur pulut hitam durian (durian with black sticky rice) a popular Indonesian dessert. I enjoyed trying krupuk udang (shrimp crackers) dipped in the delicious broth and talking about Indonesian cuisine with the cook! After shopping for some Indonesian groceries and learning about musang king durian, I went on a durian hunt in a local market. I encourage you to try the cuisine of Indonesia and if you want to try some of the best Indonesian food in New York to go here!
Episode Intel:
Indo Java
85-12 Queens Blvd # 1, Queens, NY 11373
Reggie Ate: Soto Babat (Indonesian beef tripe soto with kikil or beef tendon), krupuk udang (prawn crackers), Teh Botol (Jasmine Tea) and Sambal (chili paste). Durian Bubur Ketan Hitam (Indonesian Black Rice Porridge with Coconut Milk and Durian)
New Golden Sparkling Supermarket
86-18 Broadway, Queens, NY 11373
Reggie went searching for monthong durian and Indonesian fruits.

@@unculturedtravel The truth is Filipino food is beyond you just saw there, we have muslim population (divided by many ethnic groups) that originates from Mindanao which culture like food are same or similar to Indo/Malay overall their food is under represented even unknown to be part of filipino foods. By ancient history part of so called Filipino shared Indo/Malay heritage but overall culture became different due to colonialism which shaped the Philippines as a catholic/christian nation despite that it still can be seen how we shared some similarity in language with them only the minority muslim called Moro shares the culture way of life with them. If you can find any muslim Filipino eatery there, that woud be interesting. Here in the Philippines with so many foreign food restos one part of our own is unknown to majority even unacknowledge as part of filipino foods when our country is diverse. Here is a glimpse of some ordinary foods by our muslim countrymen kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHuWfGSGYsqVoas kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6K1eKuneNuef6M

Do you notice how most southeast asian countries use spoon and fork as utensils and not a lot uses knives? Its because these countries had been colonized by the west, and knives were not taught to be used to avoid using it as a weapon. Hence spoon is used to cut through the food and fork pushes it to the spoon to scoop the food.

Timecode 1:46 Pisang Molen and Bolu Kukus are have a good taste. You have to try it. Timecode 1:53 Belibis brand is the best Chili Sauce. Other brand cannot defeat Belibis brand's taste. IMHO. Timecode 3:32 Teh Kotak vs Teh Botol Sosro? i prefer Teh Botol Sosro.. Indonesian dish which have special taste of sambal are Ayam Geprek, Ayam kremes, Ayam Penyet, Pecel Ayam. Because every shop have their own special sambal. If you get a not good taste sambal of Ayam Geprek, then try another Ayam geprek shop, because another shop have their own special sambal, which you might get the good taste of sambal there. I don't like using generic sambal, such as in Timecode 5:03 . Because it's not the original taste of the meal. I use sambal if the meal's taste is not good. The sambal will cover the meal's bad taste. Same with Sambal Sauce. Except Belibis sambal sauce. Because Belibis brand is have a really good taste of sambal sauce. IMHO.

Durian is delicious if eaten straight or fresh. Don't worry, there is a trick to get rid of the after odor that sticks to our hands and mouth, that is, wash your hands with running water that is dropped on the inside of the durian skin. Use the same trick to gargle couple of times. Guaranteed, the smell will disappear. Nature provides enjoyment as well as the right way to enjoy it without fear that you will bring the smell of durian home. Many people said they like durian but little did they know that tricks. Good luck! Ps: You got a new subs here 😂😊

Few corrections: 1. Jengkol and Stinky Bean are distinct seeds/beans. Jengkol is dog fruit (latin Archidendron pauciflorum). Petai or Pete is stinky bean (Parkia speciosa). 2. Kuaci or Kwaci is not watermelon seeds in Indonesia. Even it literally can be translated as watermelon or melon seeds, in Indonesia our Kwaci is made from either sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds. In China they may have it made from watermelon seeds.
