@CollinGill72 жыл бұрын
@@RubbelisPro it’s because he trains his tricks like sw heel front tail so much on sls style hubbas so much that all those tricks are automatic for him now so he looks like a robot doing them, it’s not fun and exciting to watch anymore because it’s like watching someone do front 50s and back boardslides on a 1 foot flat bar at your local park. Competitions are supposed to be exciting because the stakes are high doing those hard ass tricks on giant obstacles, but now that Filipe Gustavo can do sw hardflip back tails every try and Yuto and Shane can do sw tre flip lip slides every try it’s just not fun to watch like it used to be

Every year I like to give out a Joty. It stands for Jah of the year. Obviously my best friend Nyjah always wins. Him and I are just friends but sometimes I think he deserves to know just how special he is to me. You should see his face every time I present him one. This year I think he got a little too excited and as he was going in for his hug our noses touched and we had a very cute eskimo kiss session. His nose is a little point which some can see as a flaw but I see it as a sharp little mistake. I bet it would hurt if it was digging into my pelvis or something, not that I would want that since like I said, him and I are just friends. It's just something to think about.

Have you ever read Kurt Vonnegut's "Bluebeard"? The main character, an artist, is asked by his wife why he continues to make abstract expressionist paintings that no one likes. Their house is being renovated, so he grabs a piece of carpenter's chalk and very quickly sketches out perfect, realistic portraits of their children on the wall right before her eyes. He then tosses the chalk and says, "because I have options." Anywho, reminded me of your comment on Chris Milic's skating.

I also was thoroughly confused by the possibility of T-Funk’s Thrasher cover trick. Like, he must have ollied off the top of the wall or something because there’s no way he’s going off the wall itself and clearing that massive bench. Seriously, the ollie heard round the world. So cool that the biggest trick of the year is one of the oldest and most fundamental.

Lance Mountain is the best I've heard talk on this. It's because comps try to freeze frame "what is hip" in skateboarding at the time. But since skateboarding is constantly progressing, these comps cannot keep up. And by doing so they create an "end goal" for all skaters who want to be comp skaters. They must be robotic, consistent and doing tricks judges deem worth points. It's all constricting to the free nature of skating and produces these kids who can do insane tricks but have no creativity or flare to their riding. If you look through the history you see these formulas have about a 10-15 year cycle before becoming completely irrelevant and lame.
