An afternoon catching trains around the Amtrak Station on Magnolia Street. Video starts out with combo train 221 & 173 passing the station. Next, a GP30 led work train arrives at the station to tie down on one of the side tracks. Those old gons next to the crane appeared to be a tad bit overloaded. Then, I saw a CSX empty hopper train pass behind the station with a Conrail C36-7. So, I headed over to the CSX yard office to catch it while stopped for a crew change. Next, back to Magnolia Street for NS train 171 coming back from Columbia with some GP50's and a GP38AC for power. Also had a bay window cab on the rear, notice the GP30 led work train in the background; crew member was eating a watermelon while waiting on a taxi. Final scenes show a nice meet at Magnolia Street between 152 (NS 6562) and 119, with a GP30 in 119's consist and a mid-train SD50 (6515) on 152. Hope you enjoyed the look back at a typical afternoon of Spartanburg action for me back then...

Have to wonder what sort of effect that Florence will have on train traffic in this area.

What are those cars at the 8:25 mark?

Ahead of the BN boxcar? Those were special built crosstie cars. Made from old flatcars that had a superstructure added with a slot at the bottom, where the crossties would be unloaded as the car was moved down the right of way.

I guess the locotrol master GP50's kept the equipment installed longer than originally thought. It was supposedly removed in 1988 from them from a book I have.

Those are for crossties. They allowed the track department to push the ties out the opening at the bottom of the car for distributing the ties from a slow moving MOW train.

AWESOME! I was born in 1990 so I didn't have long to see all those high hoods and long hood forward locomotives before the started switching to wide cabs.

Not sure what you mean... Conrail existed until 1999, so it would be possible to see them in 1990 as foreign power.
