My very fist concert was Soul Asylum in '88 @ SDSU and they were fantastic. Had a blast!

Chris Osgood worked for Twin Tone and was in the Minneapolis band The Suicide Commandos. The Suicide Commandos was part of the previous generation of punk bands in the Minneapolis scene an a huge influence in that scene.

Soul Asylum are as good as any band that got famous in the 90's. From 88-95 they had a four album run that is absolute gold. And The Horse They Rode In On may be my favorite rock and roll album of all time.

Dave Piner had his moment in the Sun for me. Think the last time when he was dating Winona Ryder in the 90s. They're basically a band you put a playlist together of 90s music. Put a couple of their tunes up there and that's about it for me

Not one of my bands (a little too 'ALT' for me & at times kinda Grungey/not my thing, the early stuff almost tends towards punk with just-OK vocals) but last year's archival The Complete Unplugged - NYC '93 might be worth revisiting (incl a cover of The Faces' "Ooh La La")...Let Your Dim Light Shine is their platinum opus & "Runaway Train" their big hit - it's an alright tune but really nothing 'special'. "Black Gold" is not bad, and "Doomsday"/"Supersonic". Their last album (haven't heard this year's Slowly But Shirley, or for that matter Delayed Reaction from 2012) Hurry Up And Wait sounds more melodic to me & IMO that more laid back approach also helps the vocals - plus I'm a melody guy

SBS will be out late September, but the two tracks released so far are promising.
