Mitsurugi has been my main guy in the Soul Calibur series since 1! Great video. Actual tutorial and I learned a lot. Many other "tutorials" end up being combo videos of the same combo with different last hit. Thanks!

2 is the clock-direction of the D-Pad/D-Stick (Up is 1, Up-Right is 2, going in the circle till you hit 8 as Up-Left) and B is for the attack button.

I recently moved from Rafeal to Mitsurugi as I wanted a more in-your-face style of sword combat (Rafael is good but he's not a real hard hitter) and I'm loving getting to know the movesets. What's super awesome is Mit has got some killer verticals that can be chained into punishing combos and combined with faints and Mist/Relic (which I freaken' love). Great Video dude, some great tips and trick in there. :D

Really enjoyed the video and timing couldn't be better as I was looking at Mitsurugi just as this hit iplaywinner. Just wanted to mention real quick that your idea with 8A+B into super does seem to work with 9A+B into super. That extra forward momentum on the landing makes the spacing just right if it hits.
@RisingJericho8 жыл бұрын
I like doing 66A+B from practically full screen, because it's a great approaching tool that gives you plus frames on block and launches on hit, so the hesitation you can score with the cancel into a free throw or low is definitely worth it.
@mazt3rmnd11 жыл бұрын
If you land 8A+B you can combo with the CE but it's more of a ukemi trap then a combo. Notation is 8A+B, MST CE Mist step closes that small distance that's needed but like a side ukemi trap

look at the number pad on your computer and translate it to an analog stick on your system of choice 8 being up, 2 being down, 4 to the left, and 6 to the right, the other buttons are the diagonals. This method is used to shorten notations for moves.

It's the jargen for SCV. A=X B=Y K=B G=A The numbers are directions, if you look at your keyboards number pad you'll see what I mean. 2=down 6=right 4=left 8=up

@Imananimegod More Mitsurugi matches are definitely on the way my friend. No worries there. I've also been thinking of starting up a series where I go over how to beat certain characters. If I get on that, you can expect Seigfreid and Xiba to be among the first few. But to tell you something now, against all those characters you mentioned; I step, a LOT. The ones I play tend to like to throw vertical pokes, and I step and counter hit that shit all day.

Great vid man. I learned a few things. 1 important thing for us mitsu's to know tho...Unless i missed it, you didn't mention that the normal version of 2KB is punishable even on hit so its very dangerous to use if you don't have the meter to make it safer. I like to use the EX version after the 1AB guard break as it gives enough frame adv to land it free...hope to see more tutorials on other chars. Im lovin' SC5 as the last one i really played was SC2. Thx, subbed
@Spectacular_Insanity11 жыл бұрын
Well, I actually agree with your friend. having Guard Cancels are a great way to play with mind games with people. It's why Xianghua rocks. Playing mind games is one of the most powerful tools in Soul Calibur. Because it doesn't have tons of endless combos like other fighters, you have to strategize a lot more, rather than just memorize combos (though having a decent command of a character's move list helps). The best SC players are ones that mix things up and stay unpredictable.

"just" means that you have a 1 frame window to hit the last input, right when your 2nd hit lands. Alpha Patty is kind of based on just inputs, he got tons of them, that's why he's difficult for untrained players. A good example of just input would be Pyrrha and her forward stab move, she kicks you or pulls off the flame move after the stab if you hit the "just back" on hit. Hope that helped
@FahrosXIV12 жыл бұрын
A lot of people don't step Mitsurugi how they should. His 4B does have tracking...if you try to quickstep it too early. You need to either just hold an up or down direction to walk it (the safest method) or quickstep it very late. If I know one is coming I just walk it. 100% success rate. Mitsurugi has moves and stances you have to avoid in specific ways. Sidestepping a specific way, ducking or punishing at specific times, etc etc. He forces you to know this, and if you don't you get blown up.
@dsr9512 жыл бұрын
Mist is so good for approaches from far, because if you go 44K+B or 66K+B, he ducks while going into Mist, do you can dodge a horizontal, you can grab really quickly out of Mist. His K,B on Mist is pretty good for catching opponents who block high a lot, forcing them to adapt to that. Lastly, Mist just scares people into blocking, so the grab after Mist is GOLD

cont. his strength also brings out the flaw in the turtle strategy, and lastly most experienced players know to look out for attacks that take advantage of being quick and moderately ranged and avoid them. So really only those that have a character that can react to the signs fast enough, or those who themselves play mitsu a lot can easily punish his patterns of attack. Not to call it impossible for those who don't, but it certainly isn't quite as easy as punishing nightmare.

General consensus does say he's A or S tier. He IS in fact strong. He was a very nice mixup game, really good pokes and is pretty darn dafe. He has an answere for a LOT of things. Plus he can inflict some pretty good damage, hence being a part of the higher tier.
@FahrosXIV12 жыл бұрын
That's actually B+K, and on counterhit it impales people, and then Mitsurugi kicks them off, which can lead to a 66A+B, 1A, or even a Critical Edge, if you input it correctly. :)

When you're against people who don't know the matchup vs Zwei (Not knowing what to interrupt, not ducking when they can, freezing up a lot, not.breaking A grabs) You just have to steamroll them over with 1[B] 4[A] 214 B mix ups and unblockables. However, from my experience, when playing against higher level players or people who know the Zwei match up, you have to play safer (BB, AA,Throws, 66A+B, 214 B, 2A, B+K, 66B, 2k, 6B, 4B and 6A+B are your go-to moves against them)

I havent played soul calibur since the original Soul Blade for ps1, and was afraid of what mitsurugi had become, but this has piqued my interest
@Lifeless961912 жыл бұрын
I would say that Mitsu is a fairly safe one to play if you know his usage, attacks are hard to detect in motion and some can be stopped mid move and changed into another type, he has plenty of mix up, and while all of this is blatantly punishable you have to see it coming to punish it and have a character with the appropriate range and attack speed. So all in all I would put Mitsu as one of the highest potential characters with Tira and perhaps Nightmare/Sieg
@FrizFroz12 жыл бұрын
Okay, you got me there lol. Most top players I know in IV play poke Mitsu than stance Mitsu but Belial's an exception so it shows versatility. Most of the stuff there are impractical though. Even he doesn't have such reflexes at tourneys. If you want to see how you can still do a lot of stuff in SCV as SCIV I have my own skill vid (watch?v=ZmE3aGobblE) for Yoshi also, but a lot are impractical under pressure too. Less moves reduce depth but the JG/reverse rage/meter system balances it out imo.

Also after guard impacts its best to do A+B after for 70 damage instead of using your CE for 60 damage. No waste of meter and more damage. Plus its kinda has a odd start up so its really hard to guard impact back.

true, most of his atacks string in via vertical slashes thrusts and pokes so strafing is probably the only obvious way to fuck with a mitsu.

Ignore some of the more negative replies you may have gotten. Zwei isnt half bad, but he isn't particularly versatile either. To play him solidly you mostly have to focus on extending all of the attacks with Ein by holding the notation until you are setup for a follow up to queue in right after it. I.E. the 4 punch combo into a launcher into wolf-snap. Zwei can build up quite a bit of presence on the field and appears very difficult to approach, other play styles for him have several clear flaws

At 19:12, I believe this move counts as a combo only when it counters. Man, remember that roll he used to have back in Soul Calibur 1 and 2 and then afterwards, he would stab you? Great move. Why'd they remove it? They also removed the Shin Banish and the Relic Stance. He used to be able to pull off unblockables from that stance as well.
@shinseitaizen13 жыл бұрын
Hey Fahros. This is really good. I, like yourself, have been a Mitsurugi player since the beginning, but I still cannot shake a good Nightmare, Siegfried or Xiba player. It just seems that their speed, due to the increase, and their mixup potential is so frequent that I find myself getting confused. Especially Xiba. It's just so hard to see where his moves are coming from sometimes. Do you think I could get some tips? Maybe a few more Mitsurugi matches? Also, try Legendary Souls with Mitsu.

The issue I have with the Mist stance is... what is the big advantage..? What does it allow you to do that you can't do from the normal stance? It takes time to get into the stance and you can't block from it, so I'm looking for some kind of benefit to render it a fair trade-off, but I can't for the life of me find it. Only way I often use it is from the 2K, B attack, which is punishable when not followed up by Mist, so you might as well get into it and do B + KB or K B.
@Lifeless961912 жыл бұрын
Just something written in as an example to fill the gap, i was in too much of a hurry to write any specific zwei combos down and i dont play him often enough to know any by notation. I lose to him often enough to consider him a plausible character with some benefits though.
@Lifeless961912 жыл бұрын
hmm, perhaps you see it that way because you play mitsurugi frequently and one is always quick to notice his own flaws, but look at it from an outside perspective, the simple ways to punish are to turtle which is a flawed strategy in any fight, to use quick distanced atacks such as that bloodied stab by pyrha, or to predict a pattern or ability either mathematically habitually or visually and react accordingly. Mitsu's mix means you cant always bank on a pattern by visual or habitual refference.
