I've had my SoulFood forever and find it so versatile. Can be endlessly tweaked for rock or blues or jazz applications. Probably my favorite pedal. I find it really shines with subtle reverb and delay combinations. Thanks for the video.

I have both. I don’t really care much about a perfect match for a mythical circuit. The soul food is what I use the most. Seems to work well for boosting anything and for a wide variety of guitars, distortions and fuzzes. Tumnus is more refined. If you are looking for something transparent and flat get the Tumnus. I prefer the mild mid boost get the soul food.

They definitely each have their own character. Not worlds apart from each other, but a bit different. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on them 👍

I've heard so much about this pedal over the years that I just ordered one due to this demo...reason I didn't order one before now is I have a clutch of boutique overdrives, way too many, so cheers. Great demo bud. Subbed.

I have both. I originally had the Soul Food and then was offered the Tumnus in a trade. To be honest, I'm still trying to decide which to have on my board. They are both fairly similar, but as people keep saying the Tumnus is probably slightly more refined, but the Soul Food seems to be simpler and have a slightly more pronounced mid-push as a boost. The video didn't show the hot switch on the Tumnus, which I quite like. It just adds a little bit of edge to the sound. Is the Tunmus better? Probably, but it's fine margins and definitely not worth twice the price.

Well said! And they are definitely both great pedals. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts Paul! 👍

I have both and they are great pedals. Soul food has his own mojo but some extreme settings doesn’t sound good like the maximum gain and the tone knob all the way open. The Tumnus works fantastic with different amps and guitars because you can use the EQ section which is really powerful, the extra gain is superb and the easy buffer switch side button is very smart. Killer overdrive tool!!! Thanks for the video!🙏🏻

Great points! The 3 band EQ on the Tumnus Deluxe really does make it very versatile. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!

I have an MXR Fat Sugar and bought a Tumnus Deluxe as well. The Tumnus was returned, I’m sure it’s great for someone just not my thing.

Very cool! I've never actually played a Fat Sugar, but the demos I've heard sound really good. And it's a bit cheaper as well. Hard to beat that! ha ha! MXR makes some great pedals! I have the Timmy and it's one of my main overdrives. Thanks for watching 👍

Thanks for the comparison. I have the original Tumnus and have played the EHX Soul Food. And as much as I like certain things about Wampler pedals, I feel like they can sometimes be too clinical sounding, if that can be a thing. They can be tight, clean and dense, but sometimes lack musicality. They could use a bit more chime! The EHX pedals on the other hand are not as refined, they can be noisy and have bad spots in their range. However, they have a harmonic chime to their grittiness and lots of sustain. They sound musical to my Indie/classic/alternative/Rock ears. Anyway, I think for most of the things I play I prefer the Soul Food. I like that steely, raw, street sound you get with EHX pedals. Anywho, the Tumnus and Soul Food are both solid pedals given their individual characteristics. I'll order a Soul Food soon and use the Tumnus for cleaner tones and Jazz. : )

They are both great pedals, but like you said, the Soul Food is probably a little less refined which can certainly be a cool thing. Thanks for watching and commenting John!

I would lean more toward the Soul Food, mostly because I also have a Seafoam Pedals Trident overdrive and that is already complicated enough.

The Soul Food is a great pedal. I’m a big fan of keeping things simple. That Trident does look interesting though. Thanks for watching and sharing which you prefer 👍

I use the Soul Food as a boost with just a bit of hair on it. Used this way, it stacks really well with other OD's, or just a boost on its own. It truly is a great pedal and has awesome bang for the buck. I hope EHX keeps this one going as it has become a staple for many players, maxing out the drive control only applies if that's required, otherwise (like the Klon) keeping it between 9am and 12noon it works great as a boost or stacker.

The Tumnus sounds way more open or with a bit more headroom. The soul food has a cool edgy tone though. I’d be happy with either

@@DadRockAndGuitars of the two or in general? Of the two I’d say the Tumnus deluxe. In general I’d say Vick Audio Tree of Life. Hbu?

@@alw1340 Awesome! I've heard of the Tree of Life pedal, but haven't really looked into it. Will have to do that! My favorite overdrive pedal currently is the MXR Timmy. It's kicked several overdrive pedals off my board 😅 Another that's basically tied for my favorite is the Catanlinbread Formula No. 55 but it's more of an amp in the box style Tweed pedal.

@@DadRockAndGuitars I didn't try the Mxr Timmy but I am very happy with similar ones: cheap Caliber Pure Sky (35€) and the underrated DOD Looking Glass (100€ here in Spain)

Favorite overdrives - Wampler Belle and Earthquaker Westwood - they both have a similar specific gain feel on the strum. Also, somehow I find that both pedals can be dialed in to acheive a certain kind of 'Domo Arragato Mr Roboto' voice/rasp to their tone ...sounds weird but ya gotta try em and you'll find this too
