Actually, Ronnie is from upstate, New York. Check out Dio in the 80's with Vivian Campbell on guitar. Viv is really fiery. Before Dio, you can check Ronnie out in Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. I recommend the song Stargazer. He also replaced Ozzy in Black Sabbath for a couple of very good albums. The band that brought him to the attention of Blackmore when his band Elf was opening for Deep Purple. Elf was also a really good band although a little different from his later music collaborations. RJD, IMHO is the greatest male metal vocalist ever.

Definitely difficult to say who is the greatest because it's even difficult to classify heavy metal or simply Hard Rock. Deep Purple, Scorpions, Iron Maiden, can all easily be contenders for great singers in the metal category. When you cross that gray area into rock and a hard rock there is definitely many more singers that could arguably be the greatest. One thing that I will say is the late 60s through the early 80s was a fantastic time for music.

There’s a story that Ronnie James Dio never done vocal warm ups! He just launched in to the first song and with that and his expressiveness is probably the root of the phrase “All hail Dio!” He also he had a way with fans as well. “For the artist each fan is a couple of minutes, for the fan is an opportunity of a lifetime!”

A little Dio history: He grew up listening to opera singers like Mario Lanza and played trumpet early. While in high school, he joined a band, the Vegas Kings, in 1958, and played trumpet. Soon he became the lead singer and played the bass. His band went through several names over the years. He started out singing doo wop, blues rock, and rock covers. Check out Ronnie and the Prophets with Love Potion #9 (cover). By the 70s, his band Elf were opening for Deep Purple. Try Nevermore from their first album. Once he joined Richie Blackmore's Rainbow, the songs became harder rock and proto-metal. I'll let others tell you about his progression as a metal singer after that. Enjoy!

One thing I'd very much like to see you doing a reaction to is a Romanian band called Bucovina and their song "Așteaptă-mă dincolo de moarte" (Wait for me on the other side of death). The band dedicated this song to their good friend Adrian Ruginâ (June 18 1977-October 30 2015) who tragically died while running in and out trying to save other Metal heads from the burning Club Colectiv in Bucharest Romania on October 30 2015, the blaze ending up claiming 64 lives (including Adrian) and 184 people injured out of which 146 people needing urgent medical care due to severe burns. R.I.P Adrian.

IMO Dio’s best work was in Rainbow & Black Sabbath. My first suggestion would be “Stargazer”.

Thank you for covering my favorite singer and my namesake. Saw him many times and he always sounded great. I know you got a lot of recs for Japanese all women metal bands do I’ll toss in this one for one of the hard-rock variety. Band-Maid “Domination” (live). They’re celebrating 10 years together now.

I love the videos and genuine reactions! my only suggestion is to include song titles in yt video titles, many of us binge watch specific bands or songs, and I find myself searching for song reactions as well as band reactions.

Thank you Kian! For sure as I go forward and react to bands whose music I’m redoing I’ll include titles, and on videos that it fits in. As often as possible ☺️👍

It's been a pleasure for me, to watch this reaction. Thank you, Melisa! I came to read a story about this amazing singer, a while ago: (he used to enter concerts through the main entrance, not the stage door. Welcoming folks, shaking hands.) A couple was walking past the stage door. After the concert. Met him there. And had a a few drinks with him in a nearby pub. 5 YEARS LATER: he was coming to a concert, walking through the entrance. And recognized them in the crowd. Shaking hands: "We've been talking, back then.." What an amazing story! btw: you have a new subscriber, sunshine! Greetings from the far north of Germany!

During the earlier times, rock radio stations frequently played Dio's "Holy Diver", "Rainbow in the Dark", "The Last in Line",Black Sabbath "Heaven and Hell", and Rainbows "Man on the Silver Mountain", and these tracks never failed to invigorate me.Still love these tracks today.

When you have the time, have a listen to the band Steelheart. The best two songs would be "I'll never let you go ", and " She's gone ". The vocalist has an astounding range.

given that Yell is the British Yellow Pages online, I suspect it's still up. Edit: Dio is also known for his AD&D Metal, the best known of which is his song Holy Diver.

The one thing i truly appreciate Dio for is that he enunciates very well. There isn't a single song that I can think of where I have no idea what he's singing. I can sing along to any of his songs.

Great reaction again. Ronnie James Dio is one of my favourite male singers of all time. I had the good fortune of seeing him live with the first line-up of DIO back in 1983. Great concert. When he was in Rainbow (the band Deep Purple original guitarist Ritchie Blackmore founded after Deep Purple) he made some classic masterpieces like "Stargazer", "Gates of Babylon", "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll", "Tarot Woman", "Catch the Rainbow" and lots more. Then he made the classic album with Black Sabbath after Ozzy'z departure "Heaven and Hell" - Pick anyone from that album.

Again, great analysis and a good attitude towards the music of a , for you, new artist. Sadly never got to experience Dio live myself. I think I've seen Jinjer on your list, so I'll add another Ukrainian based band: Ignea "Nomad's Luck" The amount of metal bands/artists out there for you to discover is a Mariana's Trench amount of them ;) Of course including the less and far more extreme ones.
