She does have a lot of vocal flavors clean and harsh vocals. I think you would like the Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air, Judgement and Punishment One Take Vocal, I Speak Astronomy and Pit of Consciousness Live in Kyiv videos. There are also two songs off the same album as Pisces which are short songs, they have the same lyrics which are lines taken from every other song on the album (including Pisces) but are sung and played in completely different styles. Those are Beggars Dance and Prologue. Tatiana is a fan of Gwen Stephani and Amy Winehouse so she often sings in that style.

There's not just one clean singing voice for her, but tons and tons of different styles and colors. Here the theme of the song is duality, as the name Pisces implies, so she wanted to have a clear contrast between the internal turmoil and the serene facade she has created for the rest of the world.
@JariJuslin
@JariJuslin Жыл бұрын
And in the sense this is representative and not representative at the same time. Structurally this is unusually simple for Jinjer, most likely because they wanted to emphasize the duality of Pisces and not muddy it with too many different styles and shades between the two.

This song is not all that representative of Jinjer’s sound. They are normally a lot heavier and sometimes brutal, but there is always something interesting going on in both the instrumentation and the vocal. It’s hard to know what to suggest next, but the usual song is Perennial live at Wacken. This shows just how good they are live and Tatiana’s gold jumpsuit is something to behold. There are a fair few female fronted or all female rock and metal bands around. For example Archenemy, Unleash the Archers, Spirit Box, Conquer/Divide, Plush, The Warning, Liliac and from Japan, Lovebites, Nemophila, Baby Metal and Band Maid.
@gradypatterson1948

Keep in mind several things concerning this song / performance: 1- Tatiana is self-taught in all her styles - she *sounds* very professional, yet she got there entirely on her own talent developed over years of hard work & effort. 2- The song itself is about duality and change - the title "Pisces" is very descriptive. The drastic difference in vocal stylings is intended to represent the multiple aspects of her life that are being described: at times sweet, even shy ... yet that isn't *all* there is to the heroine of the song: she can also be aggressive and can express her pain when "tortured" by "callous men"! Even among those two extremes, there are variations symbolized by the double-time portion and the belting. {technical talk} One of the most amazing things about Tatiana's voice (most noticeable in this performance, but present elsewhere) is her ability to develop polytonality in her growl. Growl, by definition, spreads the tonal center into a range rather than a single note, but will have a central frequency (essentially the mid-point of the range): Tatiana has the ability to generate harmonics within her growl so that there are two or even three tonal centers. These are there (but nearly inaudible) for most singers who growl, but Tatiana has the ability to strengthen those harmonic tonal ranges to audibility: even though there is no clear tonal center, she literally harmonizes with herself!

I have watched thousands of Jinjer reactions at this point. Hell, a reaction 4 years ago is how I learned about them, and also learned something about myself; I don’t have to be stuck listening to the music I listened to in the 90’s. I rarely sub to reaction channels though. But you got me. I laughed out loud several times during this. I was horned into fundamentalist Christianity. I finally got out in my 30’s. Now I’m a 50 year old man that can’t get enough of irreverent, blasphemous humor. That apology to Christian’s made me happy. So thank you! And please, more Jinjer with humor ❤

The way Tati sings her cleans here is particular. At the end, we have a glimpse of what else she can do cleanwise (her belting). The same goes for the harsh vocals: she is amazing from screaming to growling. Check "Home back", for instance, or "Pit of consciousness - live in Kiev".

I always love songs that mix melodic vocals and heavy vocals due to the increased contrast involved.. with the heavy vocals coming in for the heavier parts of the song. You could think of the melodic sections as being in cruise mode.. a trance that builds anticipation, which then makes the heavy bits even more impactful. Another good example is something like: My Dying Bride - She is the Dark

I fell in love with this band a few years ago and have seen them live twice now. I agree 100%. I’m a new fan, just got into Jinjer a few months ago. But I’ve already seen them once live, and just bought my tickets to see them again in August. Twice in one year for a band i just discovered is a good indicator. It was love at first listen for me. I’ve been playing bass and singing professionally for over 45 years, and I’ve been going to rock concerts longer than that. I’ve seen Rush 36x live, and consider them the pinnacle of live bands. These guys had the same kind of impact on me when i first heard them as Rush. Highest compliment i can think of. Rush revolutionized my whole life in 1977. Jinjer absolutely deserves a place among the greats of rock, for all the reasons you noted. They’re like a classical ensemble of metal. Their tightness and intricacy are classical to me. Tatiana’s voice is one of the instruments. Their live performances are incredibly tight technically, yet don’t lose any of the feel. I hope and pray they can keep it up for a long time!

It isn't just impressive that she can do the low growls like that its the expressiveness in how she uses it. In this song, for example, at the end she is doing the growls and then the screams at the end. In the song Perennial the way she uses her growls and screams is very intentional. So its basically how she utilizes the growls and screams that makes it even more impressive.

She's not opening up space at the back of her mouth as such. She's opening her throat and connecting all that space to the shape of her mouth. In harsh vocals it is called "tunnel throat" and you are are quite literally aligning all of your mechanism over the top of what is essentially a well you can draw sound from or create resonance through. At times you can see her change her posture or her head position. If you open your throat and tilt your head you can create more resonance because all the air is travelling up the well and into your mouth and the pocket of your cheek. It is a trick that throat singers can use as well.

if you want to hear them live, check out "JINJER - Perennial (Live at Wacken Open Air 2019) | Napalm Records" where she is switching mid sentence several times. another live one would be "JINJER - Who Is Gonna Be The One (Live) | Napalm Records" where she has some of her lowest growls ... and a kinda surprise at the end

A refreshing reaction to the song and band I watched the first reaction on KZbin ever. I now know I needed a reaction that could finally nicely surprise me again and I can tell I watched every damn reaction to Tatiana's Pisces duality. This was refreshing and fully satisfying. Well done Melisa Kelly! I would recommend a new reaction of yours to Tatjana's one-take video many of us are gonna suggest you down below... - Spoiler: there's a cat in that video!

If there is a band that can bring people into different genres of music new to them it’s Jinjer.Their versatility and complexities of their music and songs will keep you on edge.See Tatiana at her best on stage with Pit of Consciousness live Kiev.Your reaction to the band and Tatiana was refreshing.If your soul music is getting dull you may make a good harsh vocalist .Tatiana is self taught only took her a few years lol and she’s been at it about 15 years but you are young

This song is thier basic entry song to thier stuff, and, although it's a great song, they have some WAAAAAYYYY better, but less accessible tracks. I would suggest looking up perennial (live at wacken), vortex, sit stay roll over, judgement and punishment, and teacher teacher....f%@k it, any of thier back catalogue... Awesome reaction. Keep it up.

I’m not sure if any song is a fair representation of JinJer as they are all so different but still so JinJer. Everything, every one of them does is just awesome. Even their videos are tops. I actually love the tone in Tatianna’s melodic voice. So much so that I would probably buy an album of Christmas music if she released one.

From my perspective, this was absolutely hilarious to watch. I've seen dozens if not hundreds of reactions to this Jinjer video but yours is one of very, very few where I've seen a singer's universe instantly expand. Tatiana is an amazingly talented singer (and the rest of the band is similarly immensely talented), but she isn't the only female growler out there. It's an exciting time, to be sure, as we see more and more inclusion and diverse talents contributing to metal music. IMO the genre is and has been growing and evolving particularly well the past 20 years; I look forward to the next 20. Oh, and you got a Sub for the honest reaction and the fun video you created around it. You totally fucking rock! EDIT: Hey, as a soul singer, I'd be interested in your reaction to Lee Fields singing his song Wish You Were Here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWTVenRjd6iNZqc

Her clean vocals on this reminds me of old Brittney Spears. And I live Tatiana and Jinjer but MY personal favorite is Courtney Laplante of Spiritbox. She can sing clean and melodic, but she has different pitches to her growls AND she can be screaming or growling her words and mid word and even every other word she'll go growl, clear singing, growl, clear signing. It's unreal how she does it and so unique. It sounds amazing. Alot of the voice coaches and singers can't figure out how she does it. Especially in the Live One take's she does. It's back and forth, back and forth. It's way better than most male metal vocalists out there. So you definitely should check out "Spiritbox - Circle With Me - Courtney Laplante Live One Take" Its just her in a studio singing live over her bands song and she kills it. Rocking back and forth like she's about to beat the sh*t out of the microphone haha

Pisces is one of their slower songs. It fits the lyrics which are talking about the dual personality of pisces astrological sign. This the lyrics about Neptune etc. Tatiana has a ton of vocal flavors. She fits the vocal to the intent of the song. They are AMAZING live!!!!

11:58 - Since no one has mentioned it yet, they're ukrainian, from the eastern part where the russian aggression is currently taking place. That region has lots of russian influences (Tatiana's first language is Russian, then Ukrainian and English is only her third language) and she grew up surrounded by the traditional slavic culture and all its roots, so it's no wonder that trait is present in her singing style. However, she has lots of western influences, like Jazz, RNB, Mexican traditional music, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Rock and Metal but she incorporates them in her singing style differently from a westerner. I've watched all the reactions to this song since the video came out and so far only two people noticed that "eastern" style descent/scale: you and Beth Roars. 👍

A lot of people will recommend you listen to Perennial from them, but that song is just another ballad with only a small sprinkling of growls. I think "Home Back" would be more along the lines of what you're looking for. They are Ukrainian, and it's a song about the war in Ukraine. She gives us a huge helping of growls, snarls, and screams. At one point she drops a growl so low that she has to end it with a literal "Blegh!" And what's more, the song is set to a bossa nova rhythm

They regularly blend grooves and genres, many with underlying jazz swings & rhythms.
