Well, Andy Martin, the guy who recorded all of the trombone audio for "Soul" (and was sadly never credited in the actual credits), did say that he was being video recorded during the entire time that he was recording the audio. So, I'm guessing that Pixar really studied the slide positions to make them completely accurate.

@@Stephenp503 You don’t even need a trigger. For example, the F above middle C can be played in 1, #4, and 6, and that’s without a trigger. Also, basically any note above the Bb above middle C can be played in basically any position, they’re just really high and hard to play.

I was the kid with heart who actually went through and did quit playing music. I’m still upset I did, I always felt pressured into this competitive scene and I didn’t like it, I just wanted to be myself but no one liked that so after highschool I quit. Now, I’m kind of just proud I did but upset that I had to. Point is, after watching soul multiple times, it makes me realize how horrible it felt being in a program that only cared how good you were, not if everyone treated you good.

So many times I have said I was quiting trombone but my mom (a trombone major) told me I couldn't. I was on a beginner level book, Hot cross buns, and new notes, you know. I was really discouraged because I get like I wasn't progressing, until my mom got out her old music and played for me. It inspired me to keep playing, she even gave me her old beginner song books a couple months ago and I haven't wanted to quit since

I'm watching my 10 year old daughter struggle with learning the trombone and we were all surprised she would pick that over flute or clarinet like most girls do. I've been trying to encourage her to stick with it, and as I was typing this, she came in all excited that she can finally 'buzz correctly.' Makes me so happy as a parent, I hope your learning journey is going better too. :) -Mom who picked clarinet.

it's not as much as you CAN'T as you should try not to. Especially at higher octaves, it's very difficult not to get a litte puffy cheeks, but puffing them out can cause people to struggle with the corners of their embochure. However, with instruments whatever works works, so if you play with puffed cheeks and it doesn't affect your playing, then go for it
