Love the shot of Blur at the beginning! That was the '13' era for them, one of their best albums. And Summerteeth for Wilco...'99 was a good year for music.

+joeshlatbonk great analogy; I think quite a lot in both cases
@jeremyschep35898 жыл бұрын
+joeshlatbonk for certain Summerteeth wouldn't be the masterpiece it is without Jay's contribution. He helped with YFW as well but not as much (that's more the album that proved he wasn't good for them long term). I'd say he had a lot to do with that era. I still like to give Nels Cline credit though. They are still an amazing band to this day and Nels is easily one of the best guitarists working today.

Jay was a great muse for Jeff and his musicianship was amazing. Neither were as good without the other. Jeff had the songs but Jay had the harmony, feel and musicianship. Bob kinda sucked but the 2 people who also deserve BIG credit for their great sound and live shows during this eras are Ken Coomer and Adam Roehlke who did the sound and taught JP everything he knows. When Coomer, Bennett and Roehlke were let go it was all downhill as far as I'm concerned. Feel lucky if you saw them live during this period.

I think that the first album with the Neil guy was quite good, then all the next records were really, really dull. There's nothing as unexpected and glorious as the riff that leads to the chorus in this song, for example.

@@randykerkman7246 they’re the best they’ve been in a longggg fucking time right now. Their newer guitarist Nels cline made it in the top 50 of the top 100 greatest guitarist of all time on rollingstone. Also it’s pretty much the original lineup still....same lineup since YHF which is where they started to break through. Their new album is some of their best work. Especially Jeff’s new solo album too. The brains are all Jeff not jay, jay just helped with some of the experimental sounds which didn’t make a dent when he left cause they got someone better lmao.
@randykerkman72464 жыл бұрын
@@jackkitchen154 i stand by my original statement, which is my opinion. There are only 2 members from Being There, Tweddy and Stirratt, hardly resembling the original lineup. If you look at Summerteeth which Jim Kot called the album of the year, Bennet co-wrote 12 of 14. Because of this they hardly resemble what I liked about them.
@jackkitchen1544 жыл бұрын
@@randykerkman7246 I love summerteeth but a co-write means writing a lead guitar solo or a piano part. Also nels cline is in my opinion one of the most versatile guitarist of all time. And I said original members from yankee hotel foxtrot not summerteeth. Yankee hotel foxtrot is where they started getting critical and public fame. Some of their best songs came after. Jay only played on 3 albums.

I love Wilco, from AM to Whole Love. I prefer old school Wilco but the current lineup is probably the best incarnation. I just finished reading "Learning how to die" by Greg Kot, great book. Although I do think ultimately Wilco is Jeff's band, there's no denying that Mr. Tweedy has a bit of an inflated ego. He clearly outgrew Ken Coomer, but letting Bennett go was a mistake. And the way he fired both of them was pretty heartless.

I'm sure leaving the playing to a guy like Nels is a no brainer for Tweety.
