One of my favorite places is the Deep water in The Ringed City, and it's a great example of how the game isn't just gray or black. It's dark, but it's miasmic and has a bunch of beautiful colors in it, like indigo and purple. It reflects off the water's edge. Maybe it's because my monitor can showcase over a billion color variants, but that just goes to show how intricate the design of the world's color pallette is.

Everyone loves elden ring but I’ve heard no one talk about how most of the time you are just bored running around the same areas looking for a boss or a door or something interesting. The open world feels kinda interesting but honestly I liked how the previous games were much smaller, because every enemy, shortcut, item, and area were intentional and thought out and you always wanted to explore instead of it feeling like a chore like in elden ring

Never felt like a chore to explore for me. Game had me asking “what’s this” or “what’s that over there” a lot and to me that was a good thing, I loved exploring secret areas and doing the little dungeons and stonesword key points. It also felt pretty straightforwards to find each boss except for maybe Mohg, but that’s just because of that dark cave.

It's clear after Dark Souls 1, Miyazaki's shift went from level design to more just totally overhauling boss fights, visuals and lore. They give you instant fast travel from the get-go and the problem with that to me is that majority of the map feels empty and/or is not memorable because you're not required to traverse them more than once. We all remember the bosses moveset's and lore, but we forget that the environment can be a boss too. In Lordran you had to memorize pathways, shortcuts, ascents and descents, enemy placements etc. You couldn't just fast travel out of areas, unless you sprinted for your life, but you could only get so far before something more deadlier further ahead killed you and sent you back. And places sometimes felt so far away it wasn't worth running all the way back, so it was almost more worth it to face the challenges of those places you felt stuck in order to move forward. The placement of Sen's Fortress before climbing to Anor Londo to me to this day is still so mind blowing genius, and we never got anything like it again. (except for that parody of a placement of Anor Londo in Dark Souls 3). That focus on environment to me is what's sorely missing in every Fromsoft game that came after it, and I hope Miyazaki returns to that design philosophy. How many more games is Miyazaki going to make with hundreds of bosses, catch roll delays, boss phases and difficultly is Miyazaki going to add before people can't be f*d? People are already complaining about Elden Ring. I believe Miyazaki could make a game that's much smaller, more interconnected level design, less bosses, no fast travel (at least maybe not till 3/4 mark), more verticality and it would be a total hit. I know I basically just described Dark Souls 1. But I think it's time for him to return to making way more insane level design coupled with all the things they've learned from everything they've made so far. I'm just imagining something like Jump King, but 3D and with Elden Ring/Sekiro combat.

As an Elden Ring fan You’re right, the open world is beautiful to look at but nothing too interesting really happens Compared to the boss fights where I’m just having the time of my life with different builds in every playthrough Currently doing a dual katana build, not Rivers of Blood, I wanted the katanas to go with my outfit so I went with Dragonscale Blade in my right hand and Moonveil in my left Maybe afterwards I’ll do a colossal weapon, or maybe I’ll do whips, maybe I’ll play with sorcery, I don’t know, for now though, I’m enjoying the dual katanas

Funny thing, a KZbinr called Symbolily was playing Bloodborn, and she had to go to the bathroom, but she was fighting (I think) the Shadows of Yarnim. She just said that it would have been cool to just pause the game, and people were legitimately bullying and harassing her, saying that she had no concept of difficulty, that she doesn't understand the concept of a SoulsBorn game, and that she's lived a pampered life without struggle, all just because she asked for a pause button.

But dark souls 3 has a bunch of colors, lothric knights are red and silver. Along with blue, you have the angels, scholars, the demons, the road of sacrifices, farron swamp, ariandel, and the ringed city most of these locations aren't gray or brown, while not bright or lively that's kinda the point lolz. It's got its own charm to it though.
