Greetings from Scotland! Diana was 18 years old here. She is 19yo currently but I've been following her since around 13yo. Diana is a natural Dramatic Contralto so the lower registers are her comfort zone but she now has a 4 octave range and it's increasing. Diana's birthmother had multiple miscarriages but when Diana came along, she seemed to hate her. She verbally and physically abused her, trying to drown her and belittle her. It all culminated when (at 3yo) she dragged her to a bus stop with a broken collarbone and abandoned her, saying "Survive if you can" A passing relative took her in but because she cried constantly (naturally with a broken collarbone) she took her to the authorities who removed Diana from her birthmothers care and placed her in an orphanage. For almost 2 years Diana never gave up hope and she knew that she was meant for something better. (This story is in her Wikipedia entry) Finally her new mother (Irina Ponik, who worked as a masseuse there occasionally) Signed her adoption papers and took her home. She vowed to pay Irina back for her kindness. Irina had a real struggle because Diana had obviously been badly affected by the experiences and at 5yo, she had a very bad stammer. It was recommended that she be taken for singing lessons to help this and immediately it was recognised that Diana had perfect pitch and an excellent ear for music and songs. 1 year later, at 6yo, Diana was performing solo on stage! This young unique phenomenon sang everywhere and anywhere she could, working constantly to earn money for the family who rescued her. This was from a Russian show where each of the contestans (about 9 in all) did a song based on a different theme each week and judged each other (so all those judges each did a song too). Diana had previously won TV song contests in Russia was presumably also invited on the strength of that. Naturally, she won this episode and the series. Her backstory is a bit of a sad one, including her time spent in an orphanage. The story is possibly made all the sadder in the telling to present a more compelling impression. Her Wikipedia page is apparently worth reading. Her contralto voice is in the lowest range you'll find on a female singer. She has something very brilliantly unique in her anatomy and has definitely spent a long time honing her instrument. She has done songs in many languages, though I'm not sure if she's fluent in anything other than Russian. She's also spent some time in stage school and owns every stage she stands on. Little gestures and actions give the impression she's immersed in each song. There are very few videos of her with real live musicians. I fear she may just end up being the best karaoke singer in the world never to have worked in any meaningful way with real musicians. The Russian music industry seems to be decades behind. She deserves so much more. She is still 18 I believe., so there is time for her to escape the "singer with backing track" world. Let's hope. There are performances, stage, street corner, boat cruise, studio, etc. that show her progression from a very young age to the present. I think the one that went viral and basically announced her to the world was her You Are Super contest performance of "Rechenka" (Реченька) when she was 14. Hello - thank you for your fine reaction. Diana has a very rare voice. She is a contralto and she is also polyphonic, which means she can produce several tones at the same time. It makes her voice sound so full. Diana's background: Diana was born on May 31, 2003 in the Far East of Russia. She was severely abused as a small child and abandoned on the street by her birth mother in winter when she was only 3 years old with a broken collarbone. She was then taken to an orphanage where, after more than one year, she was adopted by Irina Ponik, a massage therapist. At the age of four and a half, Diana still could not speak properly. She also stuttered. Experts recommended that she take singing lessons to improve her general speaking and vocal skills. This is a new TV show in Russia. There are 9 weeks with 9 shows and 9 well known artists. Diana is the youngest artist. They had to sing songs from 9 genres. The last TV show was on 20. November 2021. The 9 artists are also the judges for the other singer. And Diana (18 yo) won the overall competition of which Diana won 4 and took 2nd place once. She shocked the other singers with the first song. The Crow was her masterpiece in this competition, in my opinion. The judge who stands up is the great opera singer Yusif Eyvazov and the husband of Anna Netrebko, who is world famous. Please stop posting this. That is not the correct way to pronounce Diana’s name. Many, many western reactors say this and all are wrong. Please look up how to pronounce something correctly before telling others incorrectly. Diana has many videos in which she pronounces her own name and even Wikipedia has a link to get it right. It is the inspiration that Diana taps into when performing. As for her voice, she's a Dramatic Contralto with harmonic over/undertones, also polyphonic. Contralto is the rarest and lowest classification for female voices, within the Contralto classes are several sub types , Dramatic being the rarest of those sub classes. Polyphonic is this ability to produce more than one tone at the same time. Her harmonics are phenomenal, there is a foundation note, then the same note an octave and octave and half above or below the foundation notes. This is just a few examples of why she is so unique, add in her artistic interpretation of music and stage presence now you have the whole package.

"Beautifully haunting." Yes, haunting is one of the most frequently used adjectives for her singing. She’s a force of nature, a witch, a siren, and a queen. Other women have her notes (admittedly very, very few) but they don’t have that dark, rich, resonant, velvety feel. Utterly unique.

I cannot believe this is your only reaction to her. What about e.g. her amazing "Wicked Game," when she was only 15?! (Her achievements are absolutely heroic, given her traumatic upbringing. She was encouraged to sing in the hope that it would help to speak, which she had difficulty doing.)
