I've been performing for almost 50 years. In that time, I've been privileged to meet, perform and collaborate with a hand full of truely gifted musians and singers. For me Diana falls into this category. The first gentleman that stood up commenting that Diana is special, incredible talent. A True Dramatic Contralto with harmonic overtones/ undertones. Mesmerizing, bewitching, magical, trully astonishing. She can channel enormous energies, grab our attention and take us to her world. It's good to see how talent shines when given opportunity in professional enviroment. She already trained her voice even further at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in Moscow where she studies, yet she is still super young (20, 18 in this show), and personal experience cannot be exchanged with the very much always needed learning, doing drills after drills after drills (Like Dimash Kudaibergen). Some details of this performance: In each round, the participants will be offered nine topics: for example, one will perform a folk song, the second - a song by a Grammy award winner, the third - a rock hit , etc. " The nine categories are: "People's Hit", "Song of the End of the 20th Century", "Soviet Song", "Hit from Every Iron", "Song of Your Choice", "New Music", "Song from a Movie or Cartoon", "Rock Hit" and "Songs of the Grammy Award Winners and Laureates". This song in this first show is for the last category "Songs of the Grammy Award Winners and Laureates". So in this way it is good she can experience so many cool performances first hand, live, inspired, and also singing 9 songs from different genres will be challenging but rewarding in the long term. This perfomance was from the ShowMaskGoon: a TV show on Russian NTV channel where the best/winners of 3 earlier music shows (The Mask, You are Super, Superstar), 9 singers perform 9 songs of 9 categories over the 9 shows/Editions, and vote/judge each other at every Edition's end. She is a true Contralto, this is the lowest female vocal type, the equivelent to the Male Bass vocal type, so the low notes are her natural placement, further more she is a Dramatic Contralto which is the deepest most powerful of the contralto types and that is even rarer, on top of that her voice has a polyphonic quality, this is the dual voice you mentioned hearing, she can harmonise with her self and she sounds like multiple people singing. And as if these abilities were not enough to call her voice godly she even has a huge range that can cover the other two female vocal types too (Mezzo and Soprano). You have never heard a voice like hers and you will probably never will, we are talking about a phenomenon that has no equal in this world. As for the Dimash comparison, sure he is great himself but other than his extreme range he never made a bigger impression on me, Diana on the other hand literally destroys my mind every single time she opens her mouth.

@@Sohum According to Diana, Dimash is too different of an artist for them to make a Duet and i kind of agree, if you listen Diana's duets there are always two things happening. Either Diana is too respectful of her duet and she always plays the second/base voice since she has the ability to go deeper or after being prompted she puts a little more power and she completely drowns her duet, her voice is too powerful, so i prefer to hear Diana solo and go all out, than having her to adjust to someone else no matter who that is.

Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She is another very interesting story that you will discover. Wait until you hear “Wicked Games”, “Take On Me”, "Human" or "Rechenka" Even though it is in Russian you still feel the emotion behind it. I've heard her sing in Russian, English, French, German, Arabic and Spanish so far. No matter what language it is beautiful.

Ah, Diana. I don't think she ever knew her biological father, and her biological mother was an abusive alcoholic who aborted seven or eight other children. I don't know why Diana was allowed to survive and the others were murdered. Diana's first years weren't happy as her mother starved her, beat her, and once tried to drown her in the bathroom. She left three year old Diana at a bus stop with a broken collarbone in the Eastern Russian winter. Diana's aunt found her but didn't know how to care for her since Diana either didn't talk or only talked a little. She was taken to an orphanage where she was adopted by a woman named Irina Ponik. They used singing as a way to develop Diana's speech and noticed that she's got some natural but unusual vocal qualities. Diana's biological mother has tried to contact her, but thankfully she was blocked at every turn. Diana still doesn't like closed spaces and had some mental health issues from the trauma she endured, plus the stress that comes when she thinks about her biological mother has caused her to lose some of the pigment around her eyes. She was born in the far east of Russia, but because her fear of her mother was so great, the adopted family moved across the country to the western edge of Russia. Diana has been singing publicly for years and doesn't just have an unusual voice. She has the skill and experience to back it up and make great use of it, and she's a consummate professional. I heart Diana.

Diana has said, in a livestream, that a duet with Dimash would be impossible - they, as artists, and their voices, are so completely different! This stupendous, epic performance, given when she was still only 18, is not at all representative of what she had done before, or of what she is doing now, or even of what she was doing then. None of the other 8 performances she gave in this TV competition show are anything like it. She said this performance is her third favourite of the 9 performances, and that her favourite by far was her performance of "The Crow." That song, and her performance of it, is much more representative of her Art as it had been up until then, as are eternal masterpieces on the earlier TV shows "You are Super"" such as Rechenka" (when she was 14) and "Wicked Game" (when she was 15).

Some reactors refuse to believe that Diana can make this sound naturally. But this is video from a live talent contest! Plus, she always has this strong "closed" quality in her singing voice. Other people have it a little, I sometimes hear it in operatic tenors for example. Diana's resonant cavities produce a very strong secondary vocal effect somehow. Interesting that people cite Dimash after hearing Diana. Dimash is technically impressive but doesn't move me emotionally. Diana's vocals speak directly to my soul.

Agree with your reaction. Diana is one of a kind, and her performances are powerful. But as I think you see too, there's a darkness in that voice, and the whole theme of her performances is dark. I'm in awe of her vocal talent, and at the same time my guard is up because of that darkness. Is she expressing a deep, profound sadness, or for some reason trying to portray a demonic character? I don't know.
