Fascinating, as Mr. Spock would say. The B6.2 is more open and defined in the midrange. The DBR62 is richer, more refined and fluid to me, with weightier bass. It's easy to believe these guys are brothers, but what happened with the UB52 and the Carina BS243.4? Dark sheep cousins, I'd say. 🥴

PSA for those of us in the US- Most of the sales at Crutchfield are ending today or tomorrow. A few, like the MA Bronzes have already ended, and some remain, like the JBL A series and the KEF Q150, but the Polks and Elacs are ending

Quite a surprise I must admit. Pretty close but the DBR62s win because I think the drivers are integrated slightly better and the bottom end is fuller.

No contest here in real life I own them both.. the soundstage width and instrument placement on the DBR6 is unmatched even compared to speakers twice their cost I’ve heard. Especially when pushed by clean higher wattage.

@@shamrock4840 Absolutely love them, the soundstage is so wide they are extremely forgiving with placement and how they project the sound stage. The instrument isolation and placement creates a definition to where you can close your eyes and imagine you could reach out and touch the musicians. Audio Science Review has a great technical break down on them and analytics.

hello, late on show but if You have both of them, can You tell which could be better allrounder? as mostly listen to very comlicated tchnical guitar music (mathcore, death core) but i freakin love moremetalcore thing even melodical and by night industrial techno. so question is - which is more capable of punchy industrail techno bass? becouse i think in more neutral genres they very close to eachother.

Looking at Crutchfield, I see that Elac now has an integrated amp/streamer, called the Discovery DS-A101-G, for $849, with 40w/channel at 8 ohms, 80w at 4 ohms, and 70w at 2 ohms, with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Dolby digital 2.1, coax, optical, and analog inputs, an ethernet connection, an app for Apple and Andoid devices that includes room correction software, and works with Spotify, Apple Airplay, and Roon.

Too bad you don't mention how the audio recording was done ? distance ? did you move the microphone up and down as the speakers tweeter are not at the sqme height etc

I've had both. Very good comparison, and I'll say that in person, they are even more different sounding. DBR62 is much smoother and richer, with deeper, punchier bass. The 6.2 always sounded a bit harsh and boring to me.

They both sound good, but the DBR62s fuller mids and sweeter high end makes this amp sound much more balanced and less V shaped, so it's a much better match. The B6.2 does better with the Yamaha than with this amp. For $300, the 6.2 is a good speaker, but the DBR62 is far better, as it should be for $699

Tonally they are both about the same but the DBR62 takes it when it comes to depth. The B6.2 sounds wrong in the treble, there is just something in the higher frequencies that dont sound right, very evident on Time Travelling and the 2 metal tracks in the end. Sounds very forced and constipated.
@DougMen1
@DougMen1 2 жыл бұрын
I never listen to those two tracks, because they sound like crap on any speaker or amp, lol. The best I can do for heavy tracks is Boost You Power and Get Ready, and even they are trying on some speakers and amps.

Can confirm this IRL and it gets more noticeable when pushed harder. If I recall the charts there are resonance spike at 700hz and crossover issues at 2k.. but honestly for the money it’s a nice speaker and hard to beat

Do you use any DSP for Room Correction or Dirac?
@DougMen1
@DougMen1 2 жыл бұрын
That would be pointless! Then any difference would be mitigated by the software
@34332
@34332 2 жыл бұрын
Mic distance mitigates room modes somewhat. Besides what DM said, how would you want to do that in practical terms? You need a (Mini)DSP and for every speaker and setup a time consuming measurement procedure. (Auto)Dirac isn't without faults and you need some expertise to correctly set it up or adjust frequency responses when needed.

@@34332 in looking to get a minidsp or a dayton audio dsp or a Berrinyer DSp. Not sure yet. Using it isn't going to make everything sound the same. What it would do is optimize everything as if these were conducted in an artificial anechoic chamber to get max results from each set up with min room effect. I believe once you understand how to operate the components and software, it can be adjusted fairly quick. I am at a point that I believe this is the direction I'm going. I have a ton of components and I have a decent balanced EQ. Its only getting me so far. I believe I can take what I already have and bring it to the next level without spending an arm and leg. I truly believe the only upgrade for speakers at this point will possibly be CSS Audio Critons with upgraded x overs unless I want to spend $3k+. As far as amps go I really want to hear a Benchmark or a vtv purifi amp. Another option for me would be Bryston gear. I truly believe Bryston makes insanely good stuff. I would love to hear a Willsenton R8 vs 845i. I would also be open to some higher tier Focal or spatial Audio for speakers. I've come to the conclusion based off Dacs I've owned that Dacs are a terrible bang for the buck after around $1200. I now look at Dacs above $1200 as actual pre amps. This is a never ending journey So I'm striving for best bang for the buck. Minidsp or one of the others will be exactly that by allowing me to maximize what I already have and really look forward to playing with my Maggie's with it. I've heard the GR Research extremes and they are great but I'm leaning toward CSS stuff but I'm not convinced that the Critons will be better than my Polk 705s with Aperiom super tweeters on top. That seems to make the 705s almost perfect.

@@ufarkingicehole DSPs can only help to a certain point. But it's not like pressing a knob and all issues are solved, in general. Doing it right will also take some serious room calculations, most likely roomtreatment, diffraction-panels, ceiling dampening, active large basstraps and specific placement layouts. Dampen it 'dead' and there's less fun. I once talked to a prof. studio soundengineer and it dazzled me, also the €€€ involved. However, a nice DSP, for home-use, integrated or external, can lift up (or down) the sound enormously or get rid of some spikes. Almost all DSP manufacturers do this their own way (measurements and calculations) and some are better or worse. It gives a guideline, but most end up adjusting and setting up manual profiles, or just disable it all together. The main issue is, like we all know and experience, bass nasties. That's a limited range. To get a good reading, you need many different measuring points. It can take a lot of time to do that (also per speaker and setup). This would be impossible and very time consuming for E to archieve and it would level out, to a point, the overall unique charasteristics per speaker, when comparing. For example, a lively sounding speaker can sound dull after DSP correction, not like its 'intended' to sound. Some speakers can't be EQ'd correctly, without messing up its dynamics or tonal balance, etc. The manual PEQ route requires a lot of time and experience, and, what is a perfect sound exactly? Mixing producers need a flat frequency speaker (Genelec for example) to address good sound on a variety of speakers, but listening to it isn't always fun. And do we really know how a musician intended the sound or how it should be reproduced, etc, etc. It's very subjective. Just a word of advice, make sure (with a DSP) to get a returnpolicy, because some can (and will) introduce hiss. This is more likely with actives, but it can show on a relative sensitive or revealing system. The same goes for PEQ's. You have to pay up to get good S/N reduction and options, or even signalboosters (if not in the PEQ) in the chain to compensate for adjustments. Anyway, for domestic roomcorrection, a DSP or PEQ can do wonders, also with (multiple) subs, that is, if some form of room-treatment is applied, otherwise results can be very mixed. Sometimes you have to settle, accept limitations and face the music. 😄 I'm all with you on Bryston and DACs 👍
