Those cheap protective carpets you get from moving suppliers work great, and because they're made of recycled materials, they're very affordable. I used a folded one and stapled it to the inside door of my forced air closet. Reduced the noise a LOT. Same principle of those fancy sound deadening foam things hanging on the walls of video makers.

is there any risk of fire with this method? my utility closet has a vertical heat pump inside and i am looking for a solution.. you are talking about those protective moving blankets, correct? they wrap around the furniture

Good job Anthony. If the noise is still being annoying outside in the living area, I would sound deadened the whole HIVAC area with Studio Sound Deadening material. The material simular to Hearing Test Chambers would also work. A good note to mention, if your HIVAC unit is in a non acclimatized area (Garage, Basement) insulation on your unit eliminates some thermal losses through it's walls. This could prevent/reduce sweating or moisture on panels.

will this help with sound being transferred through the vents from 1 room to another when people talk?

I think minimal, air is still free flowing and will probably still transfer voices decently

I'm confused, this you add the liner on the furnace itself or on the ducts?

Wait, you don’t need louvered doors in your furnace room?

There's ample air flow and the furnace grabs fresh air from outside.

Not with 95% + efficiency units, which draw their air from outside

Can you apply this on the furnace itself 95% efficiency furnace

I would put it on the ducting of the furnace output. Just measure the sheet metal temperature.

You also have to factor the frequencies that we're reducing, which are the range we notice audibly.

3db doesn't sounds a lot, but it is actualy like cut the noise half.

Because he didn't completely wrap the entire unit with insulation, the sound will transfer to the uninsulated areas. It would have been better to sound insulate the entire room and doors. and measure the sound levels from outside the room.
