@@jimmys_jimny Everything! I got everything done. Even the hood. You use the car properly as an off roading vehicle 😂 This is what it's meant for. I only use it on the road so i installed customized seats just to make the car more comfortable. I posted a short video of the sound deadening but later I will make a video of the interior. Hope it is helpful for other Jimmy owners 😊

I will be upgrading the Jimny speakers, most certainly the front speakers, and will most certainly install sound deadening over at least 30% to 40% of the front doors in order to improve the performance of the front speakers. This will not reduce the road-noise overall but will dramatically improve the performance of the speakers. The only reason I might still consider applying sound deadening to the rest of the Jimny is that since I am driving in the murderously hot sun in Africa and since I spend many hours observing and photographing wildlife from a parked Jimny, I am seriously considering effective insulation against heat. If one is going to go to the expense of applying proper thermal insulation, not applying a sound-deadening layer first will be short-sighted. I has been claimed, though not verified, that the engine hood is a major source of noise transmitted into the rest of any vehicle and that sound deadening as well as thermal insulation applied to the engine hood is highly effective at reducing overall engine noise as well as presumably road noise from the front wheels. The reduced heat also protects the paint on the hood from heat damage. One of the factors that appeal the most to me regarding the Jimny and that certainly sets the Jimny apart from most other vehicles, is that most projects are not beyond my limited technical skills and your video has provided a great deal of courage that I can strip the interior down and apply the proper sound and thermal insulation in future. This is most certainly not a trivial project, but most certainly do-able.
@jimmys_jimny
@jimmys_jimny 3 жыл бұрын
From an insulation perspective I could certainly see the benefit! I’m sure there are some brands out there that are specifically designed to have better heat proofing abilities like you said! Yeah even putting sound deadening on the firewall made a significant difference! The only thing I was worried about was putting sound deadening in the engine bay and causing too much heat to be retained causing long term issues or simply overheating

Good video and explanation. I have had a few Jimnys and now a JB74. The car has absolutely no soundproofing compared to a saloon car and at motorway speeds it can become very noisy above 100kph which can be a shock to the system if it is your first Jimny after having a normal car. To be fair the Jimny is a utility vehicle so such niceties as a sound proofing are not an essential bit of kit. I was thinking of getting military grade throat mic and headset so I can talk to the wife when the car is at full chat... :-)
@jimmys_jimny
@jimmys_jimny 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely mate I agree, there really isn’t much you can do to make it silent, other than removing the silly mods and making it stock standard but let’s be honest I’m not doing that 😂. I think the throat mic would be a good idea, I think I’ll be investing in some earplugs so I can’t hear a thing 🤣

I found installing the sound deadening to be a major pain that I only did the back half of the car. Then again, I didn’t do it for road noise but for better sounding audio. Install a good sound system and you might find your $300 well spent 👍

Yeah I left that out, massive improvement to the front speakers, and I did install the rear speakers while doing the deadening. Like I said in the video the biggest issue I have was my understanding of what it would do - no fault of the product, I still think it’s great, but just not for what I had imagined (lack of research I suppose)

Good video, but I think you have misunderstood your results, and thus give the wrong recommendation. you seem so disappointed by the results you obtained. you may not know that decibels are measured on an exponential scale in the base of 10, A 3 DB drop is half of the original noise. I think that is quite satisfactory.
@jimmys_jimny

Thanks mate, that’s a good insight I didn’t know that. Will be sure to look into that some more I supposed actual results are hard to measure is all as my overall satisfaction level wasn’t based so much off the meter readings but my actual experience. No matter what I do the Jimny is just noisy (mostly because of my tyres and roof rack) 😂

Great video, you summed it up well at the end!👌🏻 having owned a VW Polo 6R in the past the Jimny is very loud compared to it 😆 We sound deadened our old Jimny a lot! We removed the old stuff and fitted new fresh deadener and then added the foam type deadener on top for more insulation and after a lot of hard work it still wasn’t that great! We have done the front doors in our new Gen4 only really to dampen the bass from our speaker upgrade and didn’t really bother doing the rest as it just didn’t seem worth it for all the time and effort 🙁
@jimmys_jimny
@jimmys_jimny 3 жыл бұрын
Ah yes European cars aren’t a fair comparison to the poor Jimny 😂 That’s really interesting to see you went the step further and didn’t get great results still, unfortunately I think it’s just the brick like shape of the Jimny that doesn’t do it any favours That’s fantastic! Noticed a difference immediately and didn’t end up needing to upgrade the front speakers as the sound is 100x better now the vibrations are absorbed like you mentioned
@StreetsandTracks
@StreetsandTracks 3 жыл бұрын
@@jimmys_jimny hahaha they certainly aren’t but theres certainly nothing wrong with trying to improve comfort for longer drives 😁 Well its a bit like what you mentioned, for the time and effort required the end reward isn’t that much of an improvement. Someone on instagram has just fitted wheel arch liners and i wonder if that could aid in reducing road noise as i feel like most of the noise is coming from the wheel arches in the back and also i think a lot of sound is passed through the firewall at the front? I’ll send you a link on instagram to the wheel arch liners 🙂 But yeah for audio upgrades sake, sound deadening is a nice bonus to affect the sound output 😀
