Hibike has one of my favorite title drops. It's perfectly placed and completely unexpected. Can't wait for Liz and the Blue Bird. It's my favorite piece of content in the franchise.
We made it! Shout out to the saxophone covering the bassoon solo between trumpet & oboe 🎷, both of the bassoonists are graduating. I hope for Liz & the rest soon!

We finally made it! It was a long FOREVER. But we're here and it was so great experiencing it with yoooou! Now. There are undoubtedly going to be dozens of people besides me to gush about all the details in the ending but there's one in particular I want to shine a light on. At 17:07 you see one of the graduating boys give his second coat button to a graduating girl. It's a bit cliche at this point but still something that means something _because_ of how much of a cliche it is. But those two aren't the ones I want to draw attention to-just the fact that this scene is brought up puts into play that the series is placing importance on this ceremony because the girls' version of it is to give away their scarf/ribbon to their love. At 17:20 we see that Yuuko is clutching a green scarf while burying her face into Kaori. There's really only one person it could have come from. I, personally, don't believe this was in fact a confession or proof that these two would go anywhere but an acknowledgement that Kaori, at the very least, treasures Yuuko singularly over the many people that she no doubt has in her life whether they're genuine friends or people sucking up to the Band Madonna. There are people who say they're your friend-and they very well might mean it. But we've seen over the course of the year how Yuuko sacrifices her social standing, her place in the band, and even her own dignity for Kaori's happiness and shows that while Kaori might not _reciprocate_ she very much _accepts and validates_ Yuuko's love. Slightly related, regarding Episode 11 with Yuuko-She was very much being genuine there in the moment. She made it a little awkward, but she spelled out along the lines of "I know maybe you'd feel weird talking to me, but I _am_ your senpai, so..." Yuuko is hands down my favorite character in this series for how much we see her fleshed out and we're just beginning her character arc!

I would follow President Yuuko to the ends of the earth, tbh The green scarf detail is mad!! Honestly thank you for providing more interesting context throughout this whole watch along, I very much appreciate it.

The first thing I did was skip to 18:05 of the episode. The reveal of Asuka's special piece being titled "Hibike! Euphonium" made me smile so big when I first go to this part years and years ago. I've very intentionally not mentioned the song's title all this time to at least do my part to preserve that reveal. That, and I truly love the song. I keep two versions with me always. The version of Asuka playing solo. I think it's from Asuka playing alone at the band camp as it doesn't have the warm up intro she did when she played for Kumiko by the river. This one is so soothing I play it in the car on a loop when I'm annoyed at something. By the time I get to where I'm going I'm always in a much better place because of the music. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpXYlaGGbrZ3ns0 And, I love the Wind Orchestra version as the entire band joins in. Especially the little part at 2 minutes 51 seconds when the song kinda resets and gets a bit playful with it all. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpa6qn6wmM-IfLc This one is a bit more for happy times and I love that it's a bit longer so there's the different little sections to listen to and enjoy. Perhaps more comments later after I've watched the full reaction, but if not, at the very least I wanted so send over a big congrats for finishing the season. And an equally big Thank You! for all the analysis, and musical knowledge, and emotion you put in to these reactions. They really are something special and a wonderful companion to the main show.

Thank you!! Appreciate you making it all the way to the end here with me too. The reveal of Asuka's song's name was CATHARTIC, man

Yuuko x Natsuki is best ship for a reason. Here I am waiting for the announcement of an adaptation of the Natsuki spin-off novel just to see more of those two. And this was just such a good ending tbh, I believe this is as far as the adaptation was first planned, with S2 being announced shortly after S1 ended and then us having to wait 3 years for more Hibike (Liz was 2 years later but that was always promoted as a stand-alone thing)

Feeling incredibly lucky that I didn't have to sit through such a long wait..

It's been a journey but we're here. Such a great series and it's been great seeing the messages it [reaches getting through! Plenty more Hibike to consume still!

Thank you for taking this journey with us. Like everyone I hope you will also watch (for youtube or private) Liz and the Blue Bird. Another KZbinr, named Teeaboo, watched Hibike long ago. When he finished Liz, he sat in silence for a minute, and then said "I cannot think of a piece of media, that is as good as what I just saw."

One of favorite finales ever! Note how the music that was absent during nationals comes back but not for the competition. Instead, it's to celebrate the relationships that have been built over the course of the year and the passing of the torch into a new year. The Yuuko and Natsuki pairing is perfect! I think Yuuko's straightforwardness and protectiveness + Natsuki's genuine compassion and ability to defuse situations make for a good combination for leading a band. Hibike Season 1 and 2 already did enough to make this my favorite anime. It had such a satisfying conclusion that I used to think that it was enough if we never got more. Then Season 3 came and suddenly, I cannot imagine Hibike without it. I really hope you continue to watch the series (and not take too long to do so hehe) because Season 3 is one of the most rewarding anime I've ever experienced. So many elements and themese from the earlier seasons and the movies pay off in big ways in the final season!

Great point about how the music highlighted the relationships in the band. I'm excited for Season 3!! I'll be taking a slight break from Hibike (the next two animes I'm watching will be something else), but hope to come back to it in the not too distant future.

Glad to see another episode! (And the excuse to rewatch more Hibike) This episode was an emotional gut punch but season 3 destroyed me even more so look forward to that! Something I really appreciate about Hibike is that while the characters all have a burning desire to improve, that makes no difference to the level of commitment they have to put in and the risk of failing anyway. A lot of stories would have the characters pull through in some magical way and just their earnest desire would be enough to carry them, but reality isn't like that. The scene of Kumiko leaning over the bridge screaming "I want to improve!" is one that sticks with me, but she doesn't become the best player and they don't win the nationals, instead we get two seasons of the characters working their hearts out only to not even be shown the final performance. Hibike isn't scared of the bitter things in life. Someone outperforming you, unrequited feelings, competing demands of your time and efforts, not reaching your goals or dreams, the expectations of others, etc. And by facing those head on it makes all the sweet parts of life that much better by contrast. The close bonds in various relationships, supporting each other on a journey together, making music, achieving something incredible. Kyoto Animation excels at the bittersweet. I could say a lot about this show but I'll leave it at that for now, hopefully we don't have to wait too long for next episode 😅 but please enjoy the other shows you're watching too.

'Hibike isn't scared of the bitter things in life' is such a true a statement. Which is why I found the series to faithfully reflect what learning an instrument is like irl, to the point of being scary haha. Was not expecting an anime series to act the part of a mirror and make me think back to those less-than-amazing moments in my own music journey (that I wouldn't trade for the world, as those tough moments are part of what drives you forward too). Thank you for being here!

I pray you pick a site with some decent subs for Liz, there's some... interesting ones floating around.
