People seem to dislike things they don’t understand. Sturgill is one of those one in a billion who’s creativity is so far of the charts, you can’t compare it to anyone or anything close. Just hearing the first instrumentals from the new album excites me to hear the rest of the high energy that I know will come. And to have it animated in a show to give life and emotion to the music.... genius. 20 years from now, we will be waiting for the next Sturgill Simpson.

Just when you think that you have Sturgill Simpson figured out he pops up out of the shadows with something new that is unlike anything prior. When a sailors guide to life caught me flatfooted after metamodern sounds in country music blew me away I was perplexed by his range of purely authentic music , but now this album and anime film.....wow.

These types of comments are so ridiculous. Tell me when Sturgill has ever said that he is (or has ever been) on a mission to put out classic country and only classic country? In fact, his whole career has been quite the opposite....yes, even before High Top Mountain. Which, by the way, was a project he did in honor of his aging grandfather and wanted to get done before he died. This notion that Sturgill was some sort of classic country God, who has all of the sudden sold out and gone a different direction than he led people to believe, is absolutely ludicrous. If you don't like the music, that's fine. But no need to act like this is some big surprising "sell out" or something. Also, it would do you some good to broaden your horizons. Finally, horns have been a part of country for decades...so not sure why you are tying that into some big change.
