Not that drumming is a popularity contest, but I find Herb one of the most under-appreciated drummers out there when it comes to the most innovative drummers of all time. Tim has the rare gift of phat groove & pocket as well as the chops which he applies very tastily. Definitely one of my biggest influences in drumming.

I seen Tim, Les, and Larry play Seas of Cheese from start to finish at Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix like 16+ years ago.i remember Tim looked me square in eyes. He probably thought what a loser. Lol. It was the perfect show and something I will cherish forever.

Tim's style is the perfect fit for Primus. Primus is a very rhythm-based band where the bass and drums are the basis for the entire sound (not discounting Larry or Todd, they're an invaluable part of it too). Tim's more "jazzy" basis lends very well to this as he has a strong sense of rhythm while also being able to be more intricate (as my Dad, a former drummer, would say, he plays a lot of fills). Jay Lane (and I'm sure some of the other drummers) is similar in this regard, which is probably why he's such a solid fit too, but Tim definitely has his own feel to him. You can definitely hear the difference when that element isnt in the band, like in the Brain era. Brain is a good drummer (especially when he's working with Buckethead), but he's too straightforward and hard-hitting for Primus. His albums always felt more simplistic musically as a result (Brown Album's still my least favorite). Anyways, Tim is a great drummer and arguably the best Primus drummer. Hats off to him.

one of the most influential drummers in my life along W/ Copeland bruford peart carrey& Bozzio! Herb the ginseng drummer his drums speaks to me. I mean if there's a guy out there who embodies my drumming more than anybody and ive stolen more chops from then any drummer it's probably him. And I'm a big fan of the OCTaBANS! when Primus remade Charlie and the Chocolate Factory I went to that tour and saw them in New Orleans and that was the first time I'd seen them since I saw them open up for Rush on the roll the bones tour Circa 1993 when he was using that pork pie drum set which was absolutely incredible sounding. And I know that massive Kit he used on the chocolate factory tour was that dark red star classic with concert Tom's all over it I mean it was just a massive playground of drums. Really good concert but the next tour for the first real LP that they had done since Tales from the Punchbowl, which was the desaturating seven he use the more traditional drum set not that Mega playground like he used on the chocolate factory tour. And to me Tim sounded much better on the more traditional kit I think it was that white Tama starclassic just absolutely blew me the freak away. The great concept album which the desaturating seven is. it's very shorts probably the shortest album they've ever done but going from Chocolate Factory to the Seven album that's a big change but maybe the next album do something like sailing the Seas of cheese cuz I believe he's sticking around he's not going anywhere just as long as you know his health issues are behind him I know he's had two heart attacks and he had triple bypass surgery. I hope we can keep him on this Earth as long as we possibly can cuz he is very into fluential to me and many others out there thanks Tim. The ginseng drummer

Tim: You forgot to identify the small china to your right! What china is that, Zildjian?
@haamurabaigreygate199 жыл бұрын
+dogmart Looks like a Wuhan 17" (I have a 20")... :3 I had a couple of Skype lessons with Tim a few years ago & really wanted to know what China he was using in '89-'90, but he couldn't remember; suggested maybe a 17" Wuhan.. But if you watch Primus vids from 89/90, that aint no 17". It's practically the same size as his Zildjian 22" Impulse Ride (bestest ride evarr :D) I managed to find a 22" Impulse Ride for sale from some guy in Ireland, which he'd had it since '83. You'll be hard pressed to find another out there (I got lucky), but even harder pressed to work out what that bloody China cymbal was from all those years ago! I'm still waiting for the model details to magically fall from the sky.. Anywho. 17" Wuhan China is my bet for this vid.
@jaredklock87548 жыл бұрын
+Haamurabai Greygate It is a Wuhan 18" china. In the November 2014 of DRUM magazine Tim is featured, and the info on his setup says that's what it is and it's intentionally cracked too.
