@TimothyPage069 жыл бұрын
Michael Osztertag I think this is a great rig for about 85% or more of Gilmour tones. He certainly had some amazing fuzzed out solos, but a grand majority of his tone is really clean. This would be a great starting rig to get most of his sounds, then you could just buy a cheap big muff or silicon fuzz face (both between 60-80 pounds I believe) and get the rest of the way for his sound.
@user-uu2tz2ud4c9 жыл бұрын
I get a perfect gilmour fuzz tone using my big muff nano and fulltone OCD at the same time I recommend trying it out
@TimothyPage069 жыл бұрын
The Dyna comp actually acts as enough of a boost (placed AFTER a fuzz) tp get that singing Gilmour tone with any Big Muff or Silicon Fuzz face styled circuit! I'd say to nail the MOST of his tones, you might want to go for a Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face Mini, a silicon fuzz which is much better than their regular one. The cool thing about silicon is that it nails his early fuzz face tones and can really push into that smooth fat big muff range.

Recommendations for spinoff series: 1. Start with a reasonable Strat and LP, add a DSL40C and use that as a basis. Then add pedals in each episode to emulate a particular guitarist. 2. Have regular installment episodes for the most popular guitarists, selecting a few songs (or album/era) per episode. I'm sure the most popular bands (Zep, Floyd, etc.) would keep you busy (and viewers engaged) for years. 3. Don't change a thing. I'd keep watching. lol I'm a big fan. Thanks for doing this, Matt and Bea!!! 🤘🏻🎸

Most of Wish You Were Here were written and rehearsed during the Dark Side of the Moon tour in 1974-75. Released in September Pink Floyd never toured to promote the album until the Animals tour in 1977 when it was performed in its entirety. For the recording sessions David used more or less the same rig he’d been touring with on the Dark Side tour. His playing and tone on the album is subtle and much more blues oriented than his earlier work. Effects used on recording sessions Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face (BC108) Colorsound Power Boost MXR Phase 90 Binson Echorec II The list above is only the effects that are heard on the album. It’s not documented whether David used his 1973-75 pedal board for the sessions or single pedals. Guitars and amps used on recording sessions Fender Stratocaster “The Black Strat” 1969 black alder body with a black pickguard, ‘63 rosewood neck and Fender 1971 pickups. The one listed here seems to be the typical setting for the US shows (April - July 1977). Delay time 310ms (1974-75) time 370ms (1977) This seems to be the typical time for the delays, normally with 5-6 repeats and volume at 30%.Listed below is where the feedback/repeats are increased. Shine on You Crazy Diamond 1-5 studio Stratocaster intro (neck pickup); clean signal with adjusted tone control Syd’s theme/sax solo (bridge pickup); clean signal with MXR Phase 90 solo 2 (neck pickup); Colorsound mild boost solo 3 (bridge pickup); Colorsound heavy boost with MXR Phase 90 rhythms (bridge pickup, 2 guitars paned left/right); Colorsound heavy boost live 1974 -’75 (pre-release) Stratocaster, neck pickup all parts; Colorsound mild boost with MXR Phase 90 and echo David did not play the intro solo on this early version. 1977 (post-release) Stratocaster (neck pickup) intro solo; clean signal with Dynacomp Syd’s Theme; Dynacomp, Colorsound mild boost, Electric Mistress and delay (long feedback) 'clean' solo; Dynacomp, Colorsound mild boost and delay 'heavy solo' (bridge pickup); Muff, Colorsound mild boost and delay rhythms and middle solo; Dynacomp, Colorsound mild boost and delay outtro (sax solo); Dynacomp, Electric Mistress and delay Although the Yamaha rotating speaker was on for most songs, it’s a dominating effect while performing Shine On.

***** So you wish to argue that David Gilmour does not sound like David Gilmour without chorus and delay?
@Kunzler38 жыл бұрын
I feel like you're purposely being dense as fuck. Sure, David Gilmour will always sound like David Gilmour no matter what he does, because he is David Gilmour. That's a basic Philosophy. But what does it really mean to sound like someone else? Gilmour wants and prefers to sound a certain way. The signature sound of someone is the sound of what that person prefers. If Gilmour were to use a specific chorus and delay most of the time, that would relay into his signature sound. Thus, when they say "sound like Gimour" what they really mean is "the sound in which Gilmour prefers: his signature tone." It's rather colloquial.
@jackbloe21178 жыл бұрын
Well it would be less amazing without the ton of gears involved. I agree about the finger thing but for several songs, especially cleaner ones, you can't deny the importance of effects.
@1971SuperLead8 жыл бұрын
Shawn Bloe David could use any chorus or delay pedal and he would still sound awesome. But your typical noob could play Gilmour's studio rig set up and still not sound anything like David, because David's sound is not in his gear. It's in him.
@gmmakesmehurl7 жыл бұрын
1971SuperLead I see this argument so often it's ridiculous. If it's all in the fingers, why the hell is there ANY consideration for gear? It is NOT all in the fingers.

+chiripas12345 exact, Gilmour uses those cornish pedals That top 500$ easily, the phase 90 script is 180$ a good delay can reach easily 400$, a EHX muff is not free, a Tube driver is expensive, not talking of an Hiwatt head (3000$) and a good rotary...
@Mrmoonlight768 жыл бұрын
Yup. For the gigging musician, you need a certain level of gear and that's gonna cost you. If you're just playing around in your bedroom, you don't need so much gear. Especially if you can't afford it. Just pickup a Squier Classic Vibe Strat, Champion 40 amp, and a phaser pedal for 600.

ENGL has a Blackmore signature model amplifier that nails the 'Blackmore sound'. 100 Watt Marshalls is what he used for many years. The secret to his pinchy fat tone however is an ancient Aiwa reel-to-reel tape recorder set on record/pause that he uses as a pre-amp boost. His volume knob on his Stratocasters has also been modified www.premierguitar.com/articles/23245-mod-garage-ritchie-blackmore-stratocaster-mods . LMFAO Thanks Guy's !!! ;)

Hey, Great video and cool tone, Can you share the pickup selection and some pedal parameters in the future. It would be useful to many guitarists I guess. Greetings from Egypt

***** i've got a script phase 90 and a bunch of other stuff in my fx loop (chorus/delay/boost etc) with nothing clever by way of level control, is there a way to fudge the level for just the phaser that you know of?

David Gilmour is the link from Hendrix to EVH. Guys you really got the tone PERFECT for this one. Gilmour is my number one guitar idol and is one of the reasons I bought a Strat. His tone and touch on a guitar is sublime. Really loved this episode Bea and Matt, well done guys. I would love for you guys to do one of these episodes or Chris Cornal in his Sound Garden Superunkown era please.

I'm sorry but just the spring reverb of the hot rod doesn't do it at all, you really need a seperate pedal for Gilmour's spacy verbs imo.

Thanks for the skivey on that MXR dynacomp 'dynamic bubble' secret. I think he used 2 for stereo in the 80's and XLR out w/ an out-of phase pick-up Strat configuration. Now it's back to mono unbalanced outs like in the 70's, I believe. Cheers from Miami. Nice job

You'd have to change it for almost every album, he heavily customized his guitars all the time as an ongoing thing.

I have a Corona built -Custom Shop guitar . It was given 5 stars on everything by Guitarist Magazine so I bought one. It did not disapoint ! In fact it is much better than a standard USA strat I bought a few years earlier. I had to change the pickups on that one ! What happened was they sent some custom shop guys to the Corona factory to train them on the finish and it paid off !!

Hey thanks guys, I'm off to buy me those little pedals, I didn't really know what I could do with them until I saw your video. Nice tip on the delay, I would have put it in my effects loop but I'm keen to try one in line now too like you did. Rock on.
