FYI... SoundModem v0.96b changes: Renamed "HF AX.25 300bd" to "AFSK AX.25 300bd" and... "VHF AX.25 1200bd" to "AFSK AX.25 1200bd" so... use AFSK AX.25 1200bd!!

Wow... It works. I finally with some very valuable help from a local ham and packet guru got it up and running and it works GREAT... Thank you for sharing this. I was really afraid I was going to have to try and find a used TNC to do packet. Now the Soundcard Packet Modem works GREAT... The trick for me was be very careful how much delay you have on your Signalink USB. In fact I have found it works optimally when the nob is on or about the first line in magnitude. I started out with it at 1/2 scale and it just was not working consistently.

Great instructions! Thanks!!! I had my RMS Express connected to a local RMS Packet Gateway in short order. I did have to learn how to write an RMS Packet Script as we have no direct connect to the local RMS Packet Gateway, but that was fairly simple. Everyone should give this a try. It works great!

I tried but I can't get it to work, UZ7HO sees the return packet but RMS express is not picking it up.

James... without trying to be too much of a smart alec it's the same reason you drive your car to work instead of walking. you could get there walking, you just don't want to. Go to the signalink website and read all about the product there. It will probably answer some of your questions.

When using the Sound Modem TNC software, can I connect my computer to radio directly using the BTECH APRS-K1 Cable (Audio Interface Cable) for BaoFeng radios? I wonder if it is possible, like APRSdroid on my phone. Thanks.

Rick, when trying to configure the Modem under Settings, I do not have a choice for "VHF". The version is 97 so it appears to have changed... Any suggestions?

At 9.36 ,The version number 0.97 of Soundmodem replaces VHF AX.25 1200bd from the drop down with AFSK AX.25 1200bd

Rick, this is a great video. Nicely done. It really clarifies how the items interconnect with each other. One thing that is confusing for me is setting of audio levels. There are many places to do this - in the software, in the Windows soundcard levels, on the SignaLink device and maybe the radio. Can you offer any guidance? Is there any benefit to using Signalink with a radio like the IC-7100 that has its own built in sound card to use with Winlink? Or would something like the Mobilinkd3 or MFJ be better options without the need for the UZ7HO?

Hi Rick, Winlink has been updated a bit since you posted this video but I expect the basics are still the same, I'm currently using 1.5.25.0. I've been looking for some documentation to explain some of the more obscure features of Winlink but have failed, my problem I suspect. Can you say which of all the documents on the web site would give the best description of Winlink Express. 73's G8XLB

as you've descibed it... the Signalink is not required. it just makes it so easy to adjust levels. it does bring a hi quality sound card too. let me know if you make it work without it. ;)

Is Signalink required? What would be lacking if I used a USB sound card ($6), and the UZ7HO + Winlink software for VHF packet, with the radio in VOX? I'm not seeing what the Signalink buys me. Thanks for making the videos.

You can use a cheap USB soundcard with the radio in VOX. But for better performance I recommend to use PTT. If there are no built-in COM or LPT ports on your PC, you can try even a cheap USB-COM adapter to PTT operations.

Something is wrong with the software. In the soundmodem program there is NO HF or VHF soundcard option in the Settings, Mode, Modem selections. How can this be set up if the option is not available?

Sound modem is receive only. It doesn't transmit. So that's all it does is monitor.

I think I have everything setup how both your videos on this describe. All three components (computer, radio and SignaLink) seem to be talking but nothing happens. On the UZ7HO screen there’s to and from dialogue but that’s it. What am I doing wrong?

I think I have it solved. I think it’s because of a weak signal either going or coming back. That seems to be my issue. Make sure to read the comments to make you have the correct new settings

Setup was going well until I go to the MODE drop down, I have ver 1.14 and it does not have VHF as an option, what do I use in this case?

I try to send email from internet to my Winlink account. it not work I send email to external from Winlink it work but when I reply or direct send email it not work. event try to send [e-mail] from Winlink.

You may wish to look at your Settings > Message Notification and Forwarding > Automatic Message Forwarding . Did you set it up to Forward mail? If so, it will not show up in WinLink.
