Using Winlink Packet P2P for EMCOMM.
#winlink #emcomm #packetp2p
If you need to send ICS forms back and forth during an emergency, Winlink P2P is probably the solution you are looking for. We recently used it during a drill and discovered many things about it. One of the cooler things was the ability to use it with our current county wide packet system.
Here is the link to setting up Winlink I mentioned in the video:

Stu, did you set up all your area's EOC stations in advance of the drill so that all operators knew in advance where their messages needed to be sent? Thanks for your video and all you do for our County's emergency communications. 73, Robert KM6RSS

Hi Robert, Most of that leg work was handled by someone else, I just helped with the pre-event testing. There was no doubt some instruction going on before the event, but it was the operators at that site that were responsible to make it all work when the event began. Stu AG6AG

Does it have to go to an SSID address in th "TO" box? What does SSID stand for? A friend is a gateway and if I'm using his gateway I neeed the -10 tacked on to his call sign. But if I'm just sending a P2P message he told me to send it to his callsign (Same as sending a Winlink Message) but excluding the -10 (SSID) if its P2P. A little odd here as you're sending to a gateway (I think) which is why the SSID. Yes?/No? :-) Thx Dave N9DMS

Hi Dave, SSID Stands for "Secondary Station Identification". No, You don't ever have to use one. They are totally optional... They can be used as pseudo identifiers like -10 being a Winlink RMS. This is not required, but is an "adopted" method by most of the Winlink community. Again, they are totally optional... However, there are times you will need to use them. The most common need for them is if you have more then one Packet service listening on a particular frequency or if you want to connect to your own call sign. Let's take my setup as an example. I have: AG6AG - This is the ID I use when I'm establishing an outbound connection. AG6AG-4 - This is my VARA Digipeater AG6AG-10 - My Winlink RMS AG6AG-11 - My Winlink Client that listens for P to P connections I also use quite a few additional SSIDs for other packet programs such as APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) and to identify my PBBS (Packet Bulletin Board System). If I want to connect to my own Winlink RMS (Radio Message Server) I have to make sure that they have different call signs. AG6AG AG6AG-10, so I can connect. Hope that clears things up a bit, Stu AG6AG

Hello Siddharth, Aliases are like tactical calls. They can be programmed into settings and allow you to use them as a from address as well as receive email sent to them. An example of how we use them for our RACES/ARES group is to identify the Emergency Operation Station (EOC) as an account to send messages to, rather then addressing the message to the callsign that is assigned to the client. This allows us to use a club call for the Winlink account for these stations. The thing you have to remember is that to connect to a individual station you need to tell the P2P comm screen that you want to connect to the actual callsign. Hope that clears it up a bit more... Whats an EOC? Why are you even getting into this discussion? WE'RE NEWBIES!!!! Same issue with your first video about Winlink. Why have a TNC and rattle on about something NEWBIES don't care to know anything about at this point -- instead, Where's the SignaLink? That's what 99% of folks use. And with the conflicting directions from the guy who wrote soundmodem (thank you sir whoever you are!) and the ones coming from Tigertronics, you forgot (and continue to forget) who you're audience is!!!! If I knew what your EOC issue was and understood it, I wouldn't be watching a tutorial on peer-to-peer. But thanks for what you ARE doing! Just a plea to keep it all simple and a plea for you to remember who we (the audience) are!!! Step 1, Step, 2 we'll get these higher level topics later on. I promise! Dave (What is KCVCS and what happened to your call sign? When would I want to add a call sign when I'm already using my own. See? This is for down the road 10 or 50 miles or so....) Remind me, what's an SSID?

Hi! This actually was targeted at RACES/ARES members. I actually have a whole range of different level viewers from all over the world. I try to spread my content across all subjects both advanced and beginners level. Hope that explains the content. Stu AG6AG
