How to sound more decisive when you speak is critical for emerging leaders. People look to you for decision making. They want to know you believe in what you're saying. You need to convince them of this and learn how to sound more decisive when you speak. But, it's easier said than done. I find for most people the issue isn't making the decision. It's on how they communicate that decision to other people. And a lot of work generally needs to be done around sounding more decisive.
In this video, I guide you through a powerful communication switch to help you sound more decisive when you speak. You'll learn the phrases that make you sound indecisive. You'll learn why they don't help you sound decisive when you need to be. And, we'll discuss alternative things you can say to sound more decisive when you speak. These tips will help you at work and at home. Basically, they will boost your level of assertiveness so you can be more decisive with others.

The "What I'll do" phrase comes across bossy because you're telling others what to do when you don't have the authority. Instead, try "I can buy the ingredients" which softens it a little without being indecisive and without directly telling other people what to do (even if that leaves them with only one option).

Thank you, I bumped into this channel. I always get intimidated with well esucated people that I always seek approval from them. I’m binge-watching all your videos and hopefully it can help me with my leadership position and in my business. I get intimidated because my grammar is not that really good, that I still have to process what should I say first , and that keeps me from not speaking up as well. This channel will be a life changing for me. You will be youtube coach. Im a new subscriber.

I'm so happy you're finding these videos helpful. Having to process what we say so we can communicate clearly is a skill that anybody can learn. I want you to know that there is nothing wrong with you, you can absolutely advance your skill in this area. There are a number of videos on my channel about communication and how to articulate well. Check those out. And thank you so much for subscribing! I'm delighted when each new person joins us! 🥳

Would you find the statement, I am going to buy the ingredients, too assertive? I’m ecstatic that I’ve bumped into your page because I’m about to promote my book, and I notice, I come across not as confident at times. Overall, watching your videos is helping me to prepare how to be more confident in delivering my message concerning the topics a current owner or potential owner in an association should know before buying those styles of homes.

This statement is great! It's not too assertive at all. It can feel strange to speak assertively when you're not used to it. You can worry you come across as too assertive or aggressive even. But it's just because you're learning a new style that you're not used to. This statement is perfect! Good luck with your book promotion. It sounds like an exciting time for you!

Hi, I lead a big department on a cruise ship, and sometimes I use rhetorical questions to get some tasks done. For instance, " can we please get this set up done according to our standards? I would like to have it properly done". How do see this kind of situation? Thank you!

Summary: [00:26] 🛡 Indeciveness in work conversations makes you look like you lack confidence in yourself, which in turn makes people question your capability at work. [00:40] 🗣 When you don't sound decisive or confident in what you're saying, other people don't believe in you. [01:09] 💡 Decisiveness is critical in leadership. It projects confidence and charisma, essential traits of true leaders. [01:23] 🔑 Move from questions to statements to sound more decisive. Statements make you sound certain and confident about your direction. [03:11] 🛑 Avoid questions when you're sure about something. Put your statements out there assertively and confidently. [07:50] 🗣 Replace questions with statements to sound more decisive. Statements convey certainty and assertiveness. [08:04] ✅ Delegate tasks assertively, using "I'd like you to" instead of "Would you like to?". This shows confidence in your decisions. [09:11] ✅ Volunteer for tasks proactively, using "What I'll do is" instead of "Would you all like me to?". This demonstrates initiative and self-assurance. [11:17] 🔑 Replace "could we" with "let's" to sound more decisive. "Let's" implies taking charge and initiating action. [12:38] 💡 Use assertive phrases like "I'll tell you what I propose", "How about we?", or "I'd like to now" to convey decisiveness and confidence.

I'm happy to help. The main point of this video is to encourage you to sound more decisive and less hesitant when you speak. Sometimes when we're hesitant, we don't want to be bold tell people what we truly want. We'll find indirect ways of communicating, eg, framing our desire as a question instead of an assertive statement. When we do this, we give the other person decision making power. In other words, we give them an option to say no. To avoid this, I recommend you use phrases like, "Let's...", "I'd like..." or "How about we...". The two case studies in this video will explain this process in more detail. But basically it's all about sounding more assertive, decisive and confident.
