@HiiImChris Жыл бұрын
Just to make it clear, you would actually hear nothing. And what would happen is the violent absurd energy of spacetime itself being bent would absolutely decimate you in ways we probably cant begin to understand because we are not capable of testing something that requires the magnificent fucking energy of two black holes colliding. Its actually quite terrifying, and despite traveling unimaginable distances we can somehow still detect the dissipated warping effect. All they did was turn a measurement/image into audio for fun

in case folks were wondering: this sound is a translation of gravitational waves into sound waves, not a recreation of the sound waves one might have heard if they were near the black holes. they took the gravitational wave frequency and instead played that same frequency as a sound, scaled up into the human-audible range. for this video, they chose a higher octave but it could have been a lower octave. this sound also has nothing to do with the sound that theoretically MIGHT (i'm not even sure) have been produced IF the black holes were surrounded by dense gas, because those sounds would depend on the gas makeup and density. and it's worth noting that a lot of gas clouds in space have extremely low density. if such a low density environment were between you and the black holes, it would mean almost zero sound propagation.

The interesting thing about their collision is that even though it may look like they've collided for us, the two singularities could still be orbiting each other at a significantly faster and faster rate just like what is shown in simulations where two orbiting masses circle each other at an increasingly faster speed endlessly as they get denser and the closer to each other
