Milo actually can’t wear normal platemail without penalty anyways because Light Clerics don’t get Heavy Armor proficiency. But it’s truly up to Monty. He can wear it, but I think it affects speed and Spellcasting ability without proficiency. EDIT: Well, Gaijin remembered later. Shows me for commenting early. 😅

Magic item, clothing. Attunement item. (1 charge, recharge on long rest) This ornate belt may hold up to 4 sheathed d*ggers. When activated, the user may choose up to 4 of the sheathed d*ggers to orbit them rapidly for a minute. Upon activation, the d*ggers become "active", and rise into the air and begin orbiting the bearer in an erractic manner, increasing their AC by 1 point per "active" d*gger against Ranged and melee weapon attacks. Furthermore, anytime a creature (excluding the bearer) moves to within 5ft of the bearer, or starts their turn within 5ft of the bearer, they must suceed on a dexterity saving throw (DC: 10+N, where N is the number of active d*ggers) or take the base damage of one of the "active" d*ggers, randomly determined (plus any additional effects resulting from the d*gger's properties). The bearer cannot use the active d*ggers for any purpose with out first, as a bonus action, succeeding on a dexterity saving throw (DC: 10+N, where N is the number of active d*ggers). On failure, they take the base damage of a randomly determined d*gger, (plus any additional effects resulting from the d*gger's properties). If sucessful, the D*gger is no longer "active" and may be wielded as normal for a weapon of it's type and properties. Sheathing a dagger attached to the belt whilst the belt is active will cause it to activate at the start of the bearer's next turn, becoming "active".

I feel like a lot of theur plans get over complicated very quickly. Its interesting, because the party always seem to voice the best option a that start. Then it quickly diverges into something that is doomed. Granted, the sand wyrm they fought, they had q week for planning versus on the spot discussion.

1:51:00 Fun fact about grappled: while it does not give disadvantage to anything and only reduces their movement speed to 0, it is brutal when paired with the prone condition. In order to get back up from prone, you need half your movement speed. While grappled, you don’t HAVE half your movement speed. Prone gives your opponent disadvantage on dexterity saves and melee attacks, and all your allies advantage on melee attacks against them. It takes an action to even try to escape a grapple. All you need to do to knock a creature prone is succeed on a shove attack.

Minor Spoiler, i guess I don't blame Gajin for getting his armor proficiencies wrong (again) like half of clerics get Heavy Armor prof, it's hard to keep track. However, once everything is said and done, they might want to consider putting that armor on someone else, maybe someone with an unexplored interest in weapon refurbishing.....

Forge, life, nature (despite druids not), order, tempest, twilight, and war clerics all have heavy armor proficiency. More clerics have heavy armor proficient than don’t. I don’t blame them either.

It’s still heavy armor, which light clerics are not proficient in. Technically he can’t cast spells while wearing it, has disadvantage on dexterity and strength, AND has 10 less movement speed.

@@Mr.Inktail The reason why certain clerics don’t have heavy armor proficiency is because they either have massive offensive potential or because they have additional defensive abilities. Milo has both. If she rule of cools this and doesn’t change anything, Milo will go from the most powerful character in the party by a slight margin to completely broken beyond all measure. With the armor and his shield He has more AC than Gaius, the second highest HP in the group, healing spells, flight (which still works because Aasimar fight is magical), out DPRs everyone in the group, has the second most utility out of the group, and still has the ability to give disadvantage on anything that even could hit him. Frankly, actually using the swords would be INEFFICIENT for him and would be exclusively for the cool factor. He’s basically invincible anyway though, so why not? Could it be done? Yes, there’s even rules in Tasha’s which allows you to gain proficiencies other than what your class allows through certain activities. SHOULD it be done? Probably not as he already outshines most of the party, he doesn’t really need more.

Most DMs leave Heat Metal as it is because they are aware it comes with the territory of throwing anyone in heavy armor at your group or vice versa. Otherwise, it unfavorably tilts things against players who don't have the resources or gear and can't meet the AC. Would have been better off sticking those knights in medium tbh. Don't change the spell like that.

Heat Metal is simple. You take the damage. Period. Succeeding the saving throw means you can keep holding onto the thing doing the damage. Failing means you have to stop everything you're doing to get rid of it.
