My Volkswagen Passat 1.9 TDI had a long time with a very annoying "squeak" on the service belt (Poli-V), which was more pronounced when the steering wheel moved a bit. By deduction I thought it was the power steering pump. While I was in the process of replacing it, I continued to investigate the matter (reading and watching videos about it) and found out that it could also be a tension problem in the service belt (mine was changed a short time ago) due to an eventual failure of the "hydraulic tensioner" of the belt or it could also be a problem of alignment due to deterioration of some pulley of the assembly and that usually occurred due to wear on the alternator pulley.
In this video, the initial sound is shown, how that sound was pronounced when moving the steering wheel, and then the entire process is shown for the replacement of the power steering pump, as well as the process for changing the hydraulic shock absorber of the Poly-V belt, and the complete process for changing the alternator pulley. That you do not know what the real problem was?
If you need to make these repairs, you must put the front of the car or lock plate in the service position, or even to work more comfortably, lower the entire front. I have made some videos that show how to do it in my Passat. The links to those videos are the following:
