I agree with everyone. The side stories really make the CT worth watching. Once you start to get behind the personalities, the whole tour just becomes so much more interesting.

5:12 That was awesome. An 11x World Champ helping out a local bloke and being humble in the moment. Would that all sports had GOATs like Kelly and phenoms like Jack.
@MrTobinite4 жыл бұрын
That was a special moment. I had to replay it several times imagining myself in every part of that interaction. The most successful competitive surfer ever humbly offering advice while acknowledging this grom has this world class wave as dialed as I have my local reefie at 2ft. This entire perspective was a breathtaking look at the behind the scenes of what life at a contest on an epic day looks like. Felipe casually rolling up for the heat, Dad has been hanging out. Watching carefully and going through some rituals to get ready for your favorite wave going off. I can't help but imagine myself being in his shoes when the heat horn goes off, you see everything line up for a cracker wave right at the start and realizing you have all-time conditions all to yourself and one other guy who kinda knows the wave. The flow must've felt surreal. Thank you for sharing these moments

Taj is the one that made jack,he taught him the balancing act of life as a talented young charger. He used to pull back and show fear even in his middle teens then one day his neural pathway development clicked and that is all thanks to Taj because he said that school success was the key to pro surfing success

Haha, love this comment. Im a big fan of Toledo. But, how the fuck do you get that good at surfing and still not feel comfortable in big surf. It just doesn't add up. All that time in the water surfing either 6ft rollins to barrels or just performance waves. Hopefully he figure out his fear and can start sending the big stuff

He sure did,bet he would do the same against whoever. The box is a wave for locals,was at the main break would be an entire different thing . He rips for sure,but that slab only a few surfed more than one or two times.

@@markriobr I don't know much about surfing. Can you tell me why this a is a wave for locals? Like Jack has a better idea of wave selection or what?

And the same thing would happen to Jack by Toledo if at J Bay for example. Both talented and both dominate at different surf breaks. Really looking forward to see how Jack will go on the ct this year.

What happened to the old days at the comp, when the lads were punching cones in the car park, & the camera Dood or Doodess were filming the hotties on the beach & the Birds flying past the break in the middle of the heat. It's now more about discipline of the politically correct ego in the car park, boring. The standard of surfing through the roof, but the styles are all so similar, like personalities & talk of these young groomed pro surfers, almost idenital, like programmed, boring 😕
