I think this is really good for everyone to see. Just because you are a legend in your sport doesn’t mean you don’t need guidance. Even the biggest names need therapy, reassurance, and clarity to be brought to them. It’s not as simple as “getting over it and having fun” especially when everyone expects the best of the best of you.

Kelly, you inspire me I'm 47 same age age you...we were born the same year. I never got really good at surfing but 2029 and 2020 I have put my life on hold and improved so much I'm getting better and better everyday. From South Africa I been traveling the world surfing. I meditate everyday for 2 hours and surf as much as I can.

Kelly you inspire me so much.we don't have good surf in north padre island .i ve gained alot of weight so my surfing has suffered.im also 55 yrs.old.seeing you compete with the younger surfers gives me the will.i started several years back downhill skateboarding and have been bombing hills.like you said just have fun.people that see me bombing hills are freaked out that i can do it at being 5'11" tall and 245 lbs and 55 yrs old.i love to see you surf .thanks for the inspiration.🦍😜😝

Yeah, this documentary made a feeling that his life is empty, lacking motivation. He spent more than a decade and gave lots of money building this wave machine, and he can't even have fun surfing a comp at it. It should be a party for him, he's surfing royalty, 11 world titles, all that stuff, he should be enjoying sitting on his throne, but like you've said, they all talking to him like he's under heavy pressure like he still needs to proof something to the world.

Alistair Hutchinson Kelly has his own demons. Seemed like the mic up was making him more nervous than anything else. Self awareness was off the charts and getting in the way. It sucks getting old for men, estrogen takes hold and suddenly the fire starts to fade. I would get rid of the guru, no distractions, take a proven pre game powder hour and a half before event to get the intensity flowing, man up and rooster f.ck the girlfriend then roll out with noise cancelling beats earphones listening to your favorite pump up sound and dominate!

The same reason he puts that much pressure on himself still is the same reason he has 11 titles. Thats just who he his down to his core. But that guru dude is trying to change him. I would never say he should do this or he needs to do that. Its his life. But in my opinion i would like to see him get rid of that guy and just be himself. Just get back to his roots and get put there and surf. I think that guru has him thinking about wayyyy to much stuff by literally telling him what not to think about. If he really needs a life coach and someone to help calm himself down and think straight he needs to make it the guy on the jet ski. I tuned in a few minutes into vid...had it running but right at the point where he asks "How many world titles would you give to be happy?" solid question. " I have learned to be content in all things."-Paul who was beaten and left to die in a prison. Imagine being the indisputable GOAT of all time and having "resistance" to that question. Heart breaks for a man who is a hero of mine, the world literally has been his oyster since we were kids...but his peace and freedom and happiness is as simple as stepping over a log, gut check time with your Maker the One who gave you your talent and will to pursue your passion and He offers you the peace and joy in His Son who took the beating and the shame and humiliation and death we all deserve on a cross to give us life. Prayers for you Kelly, Jesus is the only guru who can bring you the peace and joy you are missing.

That was the REALIST video I've even seen by the WSL. Interesting to watch. Hey, he OLNY got those 11 World titles by being hard on himself. To me this was about the beginning of a shift in him and where he is at in his life. His GF and coach wouldn't be talking to him like that if they didn't know something we didn't. It' seems evident enough however. How's does a man start to coast in life, when he has never coasted? I imagine he has NO CLUE how to coast, and this is what the video was about. Best of luck man in whatever gear you decide to shift into.

When you have 11 word titles and a epic wave pool. WHY NOT JUST HAVE FUN 10 + a bonus just laugh and have fun. I suggest a bag of good green and a permagrin ! Then just ride and care less if you win. If anybody has done that it is you Kelly and not by surfing a wave pool. Do not think of it as a contest if others beat you they will be promoting the pool even more. You only live once and you have 11 world titles and a wave pool so just enjoy it. You are the last surfer alive that needs to win. Been there done that and been on epic crazy waves. Now it is time to just wear the crown and have fun not worry or try to win. It may happen but either way you win just being stoked at what you did and have. People are coming to YOUR BREAK so just smile and own it. Don't Worry Be Happy ! Winning a champion on a wave pool is not going to hold a candle to 11 real titles your the man and deserve to just have fun not work.

We all know Kelly got robbed of a 12th world title at least once but probably twice by judges who awarded better scores to lesser surfers. I think he knows it and wants to overcome the 12th title hurdle because in a parallel universe he has 13 and doesnt need Charlie Goldsmith to whisper affirmations in his ear. Being the greatest isn't enough if you could have been better.

He's struggling with happiness. Not uncommon in middle age. The higher you climb the harder the fall. He's the super hot girl who had every door in the world open to her (although he earned it with skill and effort), but then she ages and the world moves on. If he had kids this transition might be easier for him. Guru dude is focused on happiness, probably a good thing you haters. That poor girlfriend looks like a hood ornament - he barely acknowledges her. Stronger connection with significant other might help him. Hope he learns to enjoy his life and focus on the quality of his non-paid for relationships.
