Recording levels 1) insert cable out from Headphone jack to device, adjust level out via headphone volume Seems straight ahead.Works . 2)to USB , How to set recording levels ? Recording level on USB is under-recorded, even when masters were wide open , a healthy signal on all channels. The Tutorials give no hint, or the manual . I'm I missing something ? 3) Aux out to device . Not sure . Any help on this subject would be appreciated ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~THANKS~~~~~~

+ed woods The main output level determines the record volume on the USB stick but with the included software you can raise the levels to what you need…it will have to be done on your computer. Thanks for asking

It is realy sad that if you have 100 records you need to scroll down to the needed record. So new track i placed below all records. It would be much better to have new record at first place. Do you have any suggestion?

Hi. I own a soundcraft ui12 wich is 2 years old. I'm having issues with recording. I was able to do it in the past. Now, i can se the record buttom but when i click it or tap on in on my phone, it doesn't record. A couple months ago worked fine. Last time I did it, it "recorded" but the file was empty. Now, it doesn't even do that. I've factory reseted and also updated the firmware. Tried with 2 different pendrives in 2 different slots and using phone and pc and none worked.

I just bought the UI12, upgraded the firmware to v.1.0.7548, and I can't do record. Mixer tells me "unable to access usb stick for writing". My USB stick is in the "USB Play" slot, and mp3's from it are successfully playing. What's the wrong?

According to this video, at the 0:28 mark John from Soundcraft says that the U12 offers one USB for Play and that the Ui16 offers Play and Recording. Also on time stamp 1:00 he repeats the Ui12 offers one USB for Play while the Ui16 offers one USB for Play and another USB for Recording. I believe your issue is not the firmware, it is just that the Ui12 does not record to USB ... maybe?

UI12 can record to USB with the latest firmware, and this is really cool. The problem is resolved already thanks to Soundcraft technical support. It's just an issue with the USB stick filesystem. Filesystem must be FAT32, not NTFS, that was in my case. But there's no information about this nuance in the manual, and I guess that's an important thing to be added.

You can use the headphone out of the computer into the mixer a few ways. Use a TRS cable small on one end for the computer large on the other for the mixer, or xlr, depending on which input you wish to use, or you could have small TRS on computer end from headphone out, to RCA on the other end to plug into the RCA inputs on the mixer. I prefer the later.

Having trouble with UI16 putting files in what it thinks is the correct order. We have numbered tracks but the UI puts all the numbers with a 1 at the beginning together then all the 2s So it goes 1, 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 2 20 22 etc. How can i stop this?

+David Chivers Thank you David, I twigged that after asking the question :) It's such a shame it's so limited in it's use. Nothing is as easy as using a desk and the player really could do with some other features such as fades to mix tracks. It is usable though just not perfect :)

Question: If I am recording a performance to a thumb drive, can I record without printing the effects that I am using through the Main Outs? I'd prefer to record the tracks PRE effects/EQ/compression/etc. Is that possible? Further, can I have some effects that are printed while others are not? For example, if I don't want to print reverb but I do want to use low-pass filter or some EQ etc. This will make the sale for me!

If it only had crossfade during auto playback. That would have been a killer feature. As it is I will only use the playback function for emergency. I perfer to use a computer app that can crossfade tracks.

Can the media player be muted through the main outs, but added to the aux outputs?

If the player is pre fader than yes this should work as the send is occurring before the track is being muted

The play list does not display non-English file name properly, it's just all question marks. It looks like the decoding is correct, just the font is not right.

maizesoft Hi there, the player will grab the text directly from the file itself. It could be a simple issue with the storage format of the file or depending on the language, the Ui may not have the correct characters stored.

Does the UI time and date stamp its recordings?

Yes it does. I recorded session with my band last night, and the file name is uirec-20210925_204417. uirec obviously means Ui recording, then the date 2021(year) and 0925 is the month(09 for september) and 25 for the day. _204417 is the track. I'm not exactally sure how the numbering works for that last part as the file I recorded the same day right before that one had a number 184540. Maybe it has to do with file size or something, but the date stamp is really nice to have on there.

Stupid crap.. I will never use this recording option anymore.. I started recording, the button was red, and when I wanted to stop, it became frozen... how the heck do I know if I recorded it? Then I clicked it many times and no response.. when I checked the usb, I only recorded short clips since the first click when it should stop the long one! It would be better to have rec button on the machine itself. Dissapointed and I looked like idiot.... I do not recommend recording this way, wire some external handy device with some external inputs.. I will only use my mixpre6 next time...

John is not taking into consideration that some people aren't already familiar with all of the functions and terminology of this mixer and is assuming we know what he means when he blurts out things that he isn't walking us through. He talks about things while he's doing something else on the mixer to get ready for the next thing instead of doing what he's saying while he's saying it. He's not the type of person to give tutorials. Having an accent doesn't make you a good teacher.

You can't on this model. You can only do that with the ui24r. This model only allows you to record the master output in stereo onto a thumb drive or external hard drive.

Multitrack recording is possible, unfortunately, only with the use of the older model - ui24, which has a USB multi-channel audio interface inside. This allows you to use this model as a multi-channel external sound card. For all others, only two-channel recording is possible, which is very sad ...

You can but only as a regular mixer connected to an audio interface (two output channels connected to two input channels of the interface). The only one UI model that can be used as an interface is the UI24, it will enable 24 track recording.
