1. Make the Soundcheck 2. Choose the AUX-Channel or Master, you want to adjust 3. Choose EDIT 4. Choose EQ 5. Note the position of the slider, you have determind by the soundcheck 6. Bring the slider in lowest position 7. choose RTA (not necessary, but helpful) 8. choose SETUP 9. choose ON and (this must shine blue) 10. choose FIXED 11. increase volume slowly (about 5 db higher then you noted,see No. 5) With increasing volume you see - shown by a blue line - where feedback is subpressed by AFS2 12. Set the slider in the position, you noted at step No. 5 13. choose SETUP 14. choose LIVE That was the basic use. I prefer after step No. 11 the following: a. decrease the gain of the frequency correspondent to the blue line with the bars, so you get a kind of manual suppression of the feedback b. choose SETUP c. Choose CLEAR FIXED d. repeat steps No. 8 - 13 I hope it is unterstandable - I am not a native english speaker. I think you can use succesfull The AFS2. Very helpful ist this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5SyeIttoLNqZ5I - even if you cannot unterstand french, I think.

Your procedure is spot on. I realized though that if you drop the db levels to low, it affects the brightness of the sound coming through.

I've owned a UI16 for over 2 yrs now. Could not figure out how to activate AFS on any of the outputs the whole time. Followed this video exactly. Then recently I discovered that the "Off" button next to "Set Up" needs to be "On".. abracadabra... The AFS now works perfect!!!

I have owned a UI24R for two years, As a backup I have a QSC Touchmix 16 ( Which is invincible, but doesnt have the accessibility of the UI ). When I first got this mixer I ran into all sorts of issues ( I believe the last software version helped a lot ) The worst thing about this mixer is the Wifi. It literally SUCKS and everyone knows it. Constantly dropping out in the middle of shows and usually when I needed it most, like at the end of a song when I want to hit MUTE FX so the singer doesnt have effects while talking with the audience. The best thing I did was put an external Netgear wifi router. it solved 99% of that problem. I have it on velcro so in larger rooms I can remove it from the back of the rack and put in the line of site. Ive been running pro sound for 40 years and could of only wished for this type of unit back then, it would have saved me 3 racks of outboard gear.

I have to admit that these are complex units, for the newbie. For the price these units sell for you would expect a very detailed, in depth, IN ACTION demonstration aimed at people new to sound engineering/setup so that the people who purchase these would feel well supported. I agree this is a very vague quick walk through.

I agree....could have a video showing the actual steps with the feedback in action.

I'm a dj who runs karaoke as well. Will the afs work to reduce feedback from singers who don't know how to use a microphone

Once you do the steps in order, yes it would. This is a poor video though.

This is probably a stupid question but how exactly do you use the on/off button to the right of the setup? When it shows off does that mean the AFS2 is off i.e. in bypass effectively? Should it be on (button turns green)? I'm confused.
@mathiaswagner71256 жыл бұрын
yeah the on button needs to light green. he didnt show it in the video, so this was actually wrong and pointless

Can you please redo this video or at least give a real example of ringing out the monitors. I'm assuming the UI has some graphs that help ring out. There are some purple signals that show up when trying to ring out but I see no mention of them here or in the manual. Are we just supposed to guess what they represent or how they work?
@hollosaroka8 жыл бұрын
Does anybody know how to setup the AFS for the mixer or "Ring Out The System"? This tutorial assumes that you already know it. I expected to see it in action and not only hear the user manual repeated. Maybe some of you got it to work and it might be obvious after done once but I would appreciate few details about what I should see happening on the screen. In the user manual at chapter 5.3.1 there is a line that sais: "6) Un-bypass the AFS2 process then slowly raise the master fader until you reach your target gain or run out of Fixed Mode filters, whichever happens first." How should I interpret "run out of Fixed Mode filters"? I do not see any filters there to run out of. It is very mysterious. I have to admit that I am new to mixers but I am quite familiar with computer hardware and software and electronics in general. Still, other than stumbling over bad reviews I cannot find anything useful in addition to the manual and this you tube tutorials that adds nothing valuable. I would appreciate a bit of demystification.

What is sensitive fader do?
@abcdxyz23 жыл бұрын
It will set the threshold to detect feedback faster or slower. If you gain the sensitivity the AFS system will listen deeper into the material and set a notch filter to cut out feedback sooner rather than waiting for the feedback to build up. So if you're decreasing the sensitivity it may cause you to notice a feedback for a short time before its notched out.
@rondetten92528 жыл бұрын
This is a terrible explanation of how to use AFS.
@gurubuzzzz4 жыл бұрын
Also is the sensitivity adjusting the threshold of when the AFS is triggered ? In that case the lower you set the slider the more it will work , but if, as he says, "Increase the sensitivity" does that mean increase the slider to the right or decrease the threshold to the left..I have used a ui24 for over a year now and it still confuses me.

Here's my review of both Soundcraft UI12 and 16. First of all both machines work for maybe an hour or 2 just fine and then the connection problems start eventually locking you out completely thus leaving you in a blind panic in front of your audience and the only way to get the connection back is to reset it by firstly finding a pin! Then prodding it into a tiny little pinhole on the side but not before you've switched the power off and on!!! Try explaining that to an angry crowd of people, and this happened sometimes twice a night! Secondly 2 or 3 months down the line both power supplies died during performances!!! I opened one of the supplies up out of curiosity, it looked like a child had cobbled it together for an art project! My advice is stay well clear of these, not worth the loss of hair! Their products cost me work and got me some bad reviews online so this is a little payback!

I get what you are saying, Daniel. I have been using a UI16 for a couple of years now and in the beginning had all the problems you mentioned. (I assume you were using the unit as its own hub.) My solution was to always have a Macbook hard wired to the unit as a backup. However a friend said he solved the connection problems with a simple extension aerial (about £7!) and indeed since then (touch wood) I have few problems apart from a temporary loss of connection maybe once a gig. (As the settings are preserved this is not usually noticed and signal normally resumes after a few seconds anyhow but usually I keep the Macbook around just in case.) I cannot comment on the power supply issue - so far so good! So as you say it is a unit that needs careful thought - great when it works though!

I agree this is not a very helpful tutorial at all. I write as someone with 20 years experience of doing sound with various systems both analogue and digital. After multiple views and reading the comments here it really is not that difficult (no more so than a hardware suppressor certainly) but this leaves too many detailed questions unanswered. Sorry to have to say that.

The instructions in the User Manual are confusing. This video does not improve on this. It uses the online "demo" interface, so you can't see what's actually happening e.g. you hear the feedback and the system notches it out.
