At least he got the Spoonman's gender right.

@theory-in-motion3 жыл бұрын
Backstory: This song was written for the Singles movie. Jeff Ament did a bunch of concept work, and Spoonman was one of the suggested band names (named after the street performer). Cornell took the list of band names and used it as a list of potential song names, once “Citizen Dick” was chosen for the band. After the film, they made the full band version of the song; Artis the Spoonman was brought into the studio. Ben Shepherd (bassist) did backing vocals. Matt Cameron played pots and pans during the breakdown (I always thought they were wood blocks). Not the most ridiculous list of instruments I had ever seen in a grunge song (I think that goes to the intro/outro to Pearl Jam’s Ten, where salt shakers and fire extinguishers make the list), but it's up there for the ¿que? factor.

Spoonman is a street performer who uses spoons to play music. That is him in the song playing the spoons. And he was known to come up on stage during this song and jam with the band
@stephanrott50023 жыл бұрын
Here's the story: In 1992, a lot of Seattle musicians helped working on (and also had cameos in) the Cameron Crowe movie "Singles". Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament had been put in charge of creating the fictional band Citizen Dick that would appear in the film (played by Matt Dillon, Ament, Gossard and Vedder). Jeff had compiled a list of potential song titles which included the name "Spoonman". The name was inspired by Artis the Spoonman, a street performer who plays music with a set of spoons. Chris Cornell eventually used the names on the list to create songs for the film and an acoustic version of "Spoonman" was among these. The final full-band studio version of the song featured Artis the Spoonman playing his spoons as part of the song's bridge.

I love this song. I think it's brilliant but also has to do with actually having seen this guy up there in Seattle at least twice. He was amazing to hear and watch. When the song debuted, I knew immediately who they were talking about and couldn't believe the appreciation the band was showing. I cannot play this song unless it's on really loud and I can sing along (yikes!) so I'm limited somewhat but this is always in rotation on my playlist. I forgotten about this request. I met "spoonman" along the waterfront in Seattle back then and I have to admit I was star struck just because he worked with Chris. so after his performance, I was asking him how it was to work with Soundgarden. But from what I remember he was a bit rude. I think he was american indian and he said something about he was being used for his heritage and taken advantage of. Then he basically shoo'd me off. But the guy spoonman was really good in the street performance that I saw and if you watch the video of spoonman you can see him.

As I have stated many times before, I did everything I could to avoid Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and everything else from the "grunge" movement in the 90's. I was focused on Prog Rock and Jazz, so I didn't listen to the radio at all. So I honestly had never heard the song before. If I had, I wouldn't have done a reaction video to it because it wouldn't have been my first time hearing it. Now, if you're questioning my integrity and calling me a liar, than please by all means provide some irrefutable concrete evidence to support your claims. Otherwise you're just speculating and slandering, and I really don't appreciate that.

@@THEDavidHeretic All I DO know is that the "first-time reaction" craze has exploded on KZbin and there are thousands of people reacting and there are only so many songs to react to. After all, it's all about the number of views on a video so no one is gonna react to an unknown album track from a 1992 Alice In Chains album when they can react to a more popular song that everyone knows, including themselves to garner more views. Is that you David? I have no clue. I don't know you. Only YOU can answer that.
@THEDavidHeretic3 жыл бұрын
@@rubicon-oh9km Which Alice In Chains song are you referring to? It might already be in the que, I'll have to check. If it is, I'll add your name to the requesters. I'll react to whatever is requested of me. From what I've been told, a lot of the songs I've reacted to are deep cuts and are not very popular songs. Those videos don't get a lot of views, like 200 - 400 views. Luckily, I don't really care about views. I'm not at all interested in analytics or views or clicks or likes or counts. All I care about is fulfilling the requests that are made, and entertaining as many people as I can while fulfilling those requests. If the video gets 200 views, that's great. If it get's 200,00 views, that's fine too. That's not what drives me though, making people smile, brightening their day, and fulfilling their requests....that's what drives me.
@rubicon-oh9km3 жыл бұрын
@@THEDavidHeretic You're fulfilling requests via Patreon and getting paid for it David. At that point, views are not important. If I request a song and pay for it via Patreon and you've heard it before, are you going to tell me and not take my money or are you going to act like you've never heard it?
@THEDavidHeretic3 жыл бұрын
@@rubicon-oh9km Well first off, most of the requests I'm fulfilling are actually free requests that were made before I even started the Patreon. I had to switch to Patreon-only requests when the que got to be very long, and I had to stop taking free requests to try and shrink the que down. The que grew to 1630 requests, that's over 2 years worth of requests. Since switching to Patreon-only requests, the que has shrink down to 1268 requests, so the plan to shrink the que down is working. It's slow, but it is working. However there are still over 1000 free requests in the que that were made prior to Patreon, and I am getting to those first because they were made first. The Patreon requesters all understand this, as I have explained it to them, and are waiting patiently in line for their requests.. So like I said I won't be getting to any Patreon-made requests for about another year and a half.. The exception to those are the ones that have been prioritized by the Silver and Gold Tier members, but that's because they're paying to skip the que and have their requests done without having to wait a year and a half in the que. Secondly, my integrity is far more important to me than a few dollars. So if someone requests a song, and I know for a fact that I have heard it before, I will tell the person who requested it that I can't do an honest reaction to it. At that point, they can select a different song to add to the que. Now there have been times I have started to react to a song, and while listening to it, I realize I have heard the song before. I stop the song, I'll inform the viewers that I recognize the song, so this won't be a reaction anymore, simply a review. Luckily this has only happened like 3 times so far, but I'm sure it will happen again. Check out my reaction to Stone Temple Pilots - Plush if you'd like to see this happen, it's the first one that comes to mind. Lastly, if someone requests a song, and I tell them I've heard it before, they can request a live version of that song. When that happens, I am very clear with them that I won't be reacting to the song itself, I will only be reacting to the live performance of the song. Things like showmanship, stage energy, crowd interaction, production, things of that nature. I also inform the viewers prior to starting the reaction that I know for a fact I have heard the song before, however this is a live performance. Therefore I won't be reacting to the song in any way. I will only be reacting to the live performance, things like showmanship, stage energy, crowd interaction, production, stuff like that. So to recap: 1. Other than the prioritized requests from the Silver and Gold tier members, the requests I'm currently fulfilling were made for free before the Patreon page was even created. 2. If I know for a fact I've hear the song before, I will tell the requester, and they can switch out songs. 3. If I have heard the song before, the requester can have me react to a live version of the song. When this happens, I am very clear that I will not be reacting to the song itself in any way, shape, or form. I will only be reacting to the live performance aspects. 4. If at any point during the reaction I realize I have heard the song before, I immediately pause and inform the viewers I do in fact recognize the song. I then inform the viewers that this will no longer be a reaction video, simply a review. Hopefully this clears up any confusion and answers all your questions about my honesty and integrity. DH
