all I can say is wow. I just watched the first video of your Free Fretboard Clarity Workshop Series and I can liken it to a blind person all of a sudden being able to see ... but in all seriousness can't even tell you how many videos I watched trying to decipher the language of chords and before your video I thought I had a decent grasp turns out ...not ...lol. honestly its nothing short of a revelation for me. Hi Chris. Yes, but in a completely linear and methodically way - whereas here it’s just a grab bag of cool voicings, the jazz comping mastery courses are systematic and organized from the ground up.

This is awesome. Lately I’ve been taking modes or scales through the circle, playing anywhere possible and stumbling on chord voicings I would have never found otherwise. Rad chords like major 6/9 with the 9 on bottom. Come on, that is a cool sound.

I hate that “neo soul” has become such a buzzword for guitar. The chords are cool but It’s always so apparent that no one has any clue what neosoul is.

I appreciate them. :) I hear you, and understand, and agree in some ways, but also have a few thoughts in response: 1) It's just a genre, and like all genres it's just a mix and match of other existing sounds. From a guitarists perspective I've defined what I believe to be the sound of "neo soul" both in this video and in my other video on the same subject (this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoOUk5Rno5V6gpI) - that it's "jazz and 7th chord harmonies that are heavily embellished with melodic movement played over a modern groove or beat feel." Again, this definition is relevant as a guitarist, but a beat producer might define it with details on what types of grooves or other instrumentation is involved and say nothing of the harmony. 2) New terms like this can certainly start off as "buzzwords" but as they are used the definition gets more settled and the term becomes a genuinely valuable expression of something agreed upon - but it takes time and it takes people partaking in the conversation and using them. Same thing has happened with other new terms and genres since forever. 3) The reason I've made these videos is because I was getting a lot of comments and emails from people saying that they want to work on "neo soul" and requesting lessons on it - I'm happy to be fulfilling my commitment to my students and audience by delivering lesson videos they ask for and helping them progress and move towards the sounds they want to make on the guitar. :) Thanks again for your comment.
