💬 LESSON DESCRIPTION:
In this video, I show you how to resolve to any chord using an “applied chord”.
Applied chords appear in chord progressions all the time.
The concept is to use chords outside of the key to target chords inside the key.
Learning about applied chords was a turning point for me in my understanding of music theory.
In the lesson, I take you through a fun and simple exercise up and down the neck to internalize two types of applied chords.
By the end of the lesson, you’ll have another tool for coming up with creative chord progressions and for analyzing chord progressions you encounter.

I thought I commented... and going to now. I am spending time with this and it is really nice. Once it is nailed down some, I am going to work on the noted intervals of the main chord scale and then try my hand (pun intended) at the chromatic added. Then I want to try it from .. lets say starting at the 5th fret A chord and walk through the scale in or within one or close position. This sure is nice. I need to get some guitar set ups so it is easier on my hands. Have a great weekend.

This is meat and potatoes sort of instruction, and repeating it as a practice “ear alignment” will pay dividends. It’s fantastic that you are structuring this in layers to highlight how triads are the foundation, and we can add color along the way. I do think it’s a good thing to play it once through without talking - not everyone does that! Thanks Jared

This style is not my thing, was not my thing. Now I understand and can utilize. Guthrie Trapp is always throwing in these diminished and Dom chords to lead to other chords like we know what he is talking about. he is one of the best players but not so good at relaying info. Now I know what he is doing thanks to this lesson. One of the best on the tube. Keep it up

This is out of my pay grade since I'm learning the fretboard with triads for now. I did dabble with sevenths yesterday, but I'm not ready yet. But I've been a music theory geek since I started playing piano, so this all made sense. And I will practice with triads. BTW there is a song with a diminished chord leading into another diminished chord. It's called Prélude in C Major by Johnny Seb Bach.
