I like how you captured something that other videos about Malenia as a character don't. Everyone focus on the tragedy that Scarlet Rot is for her, and it is cool that you didn't miss how strong and quite cool of a character she is. A swordwoman able to heal from her will alone, and a legend in combat. Really cool that you gave her an hommage like that :D

I've never played Elden Ring or really any Dark Souls like games before, but this song somehow reminds me of my dad. He has a particularly aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma. He has only been diagnosed officially for about 2 months, but he's nearing the end now. Im currently sitting next to him at the hospice center listening to this song. He's been fighting the best he can, but I still know that his end is soon. I'm gonna miss him, but i'm glad i was able to find this song anyway.

"So as a river flows, Ill move along" I love this line! Its not only a clever reference to her most infamous ability, the dreaded 'Waterfowl dance', but I believe a reference to her teacher, who taught her that move and was actually the one who originally sealed away the Outer God of Rot. If it is, Very well done!
@sekira4516 Жыл бұрын
I also see it as a statement that she will not grow stagnant even as the Rot eats away at her. She will flow freely onward like water, carrying her teacher's will with her in defiance of the very Outer God she's being consumed by. the Scarlet Rot represents stagnation and decay before rebirth, hence why there's so much reference to flowing water in regards to opposition towards the Rot, it is the exact antithesis of the Rot.
@patyczek-xo3nr Жыл бұрын
Its also a reference to the fact that scarlet rot thrives in still waters which is presented in caelid so this line also signifies her defiance towards the rot

Here’s how Malenia’s healing works: it’s not a power from her divine heritage, her Great Rune, or the Rot. It’s pure willpower, built up over a lifetime of training and resisting her curse, even as it eats her alive. Each strike that lands true reinvigorates her and propels her into the next, and the next, until her opponent is another corpse piled at the foot of her and Miquella’s dreams. Malenia is someone who has spent her entire life suffering, but still *absolutely refuses* to give in and die. This is that woman’s theme song.

@@trainman5675 Aint it in nature of humans beliving in gods and order itself, to stagnate, tho? As an omnipotent, or close enogh being to be seen that way, would be seen as defination of perfection. Ideologically/law wise, its the imperfect, that encourages people to question its thesis, whit countertheises, thus leading to an evolving state in world, while ideology/law backed by might of an omnipotent being, would be absolute, as people wouldent nessesaerarly care about validity, behind might upholding order, but accept the order based on its immutability. As for scientific research, it encourages the questions ”why” and ”how”, biggest target for them being understanding god itself, but realistically once you can explain god, beyond dogma, it loses its state as something beyond us, as we can comprehend its power, limits and at that point a way to emmulate them, leading to world where gods ideas, backed by absolute might, are seen as backed by might thats possible for us to achive and thus no longer absolute. So it would be in best intrest of god to keep its followers stagnent, after all purpose of a child is to surpass the parent and even if it takes generations, once it does happen: child becomes the new standard for saying how things are from than on. Also for game genre about challenging anything from first prison guards, to gods and state of the world itself, as just a man (refering to whole of mankind, which indevidual, would be member of), relying on beings outside ourselfs to fix world around us, goes against core message, of suceeding trough persevierence, no?

This song reminds me so much of sekiro/ his sekiro song. All the talk of rot (dragon rot), “I am changed but free and it strengthens me” like how sekiro has the divine heirs blood and the general feeling of determination feels like this could be spiritual successor to undying. Love this song already and the rest of the album!
@masonjohnson4310 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty confident that Malenia was probably reskinned and repurposed from Sekiro anyway. I think she was probably meant to be Tomoe originally. After all, prosthetics, a rot, and a Katana? That's pretty Sekiro-like. The Scarlet Aeonia also looks just a bit like an unfurling lotus, which is significant in Buddhism, a major theme in Sekiro as well. Additionally, she even moves like a Sekiro boss a bit. Her walk is reminiscent of Isshin, and her Waterfowl dance is litterally in Sekiro. Spiral Cloud Passage specifically I think.
