The fact that the Ivory king single handedly took care of CHAOS, the very birthplace of pyromancies and fueld by a whole lord soul, is nothing short of lengendary. In many ways, chaos was about to become a problem similar to the abyss, and he did the unthinkable and stopped it before it could truly start.

Ah, Ivory King. One of the greatest characters in the entire souls series. A man truly worthy of being called a king. Is from a barbarous clan of warriors, yet became a wise king. Was the first to draw his sword in the time of need. Was the first to stand on the frontline and face the enemy. Knew that his queen was a shard of great darkness, drawn to him by anything but love, yet embraced her still and turned darkness into light. When he found the hole through which the Chaos was seeping out, he built his throne room not as far away from it, but right above it - to be the first to face whatever monstrocity will climb out. There are not a lot of truly decent characters through out the Souls series. And this man was an absolute badass.

Out of all of the fallen kings in DS2's story, the Ivory King is the only one who was unambiguously a good person. No strings attached. No skeletons in the closet. Just a heart as pure as gold, the will to enforce that heart's benevolent ambitions, and the strength to defend his people from man and monster alike. I've always been a firm believer that the Ivory King was one of the only true heroes in the entirety of the Souls franchise. He was one of the greatest and most noble of the kings, and was selfless to a fault. He loved a Child of the Dark, and guarded the Chaos personally so that his subjects would be spared from it's corrupting essence. When he realized he was to fall to Chaos, he instead dove into it with a troupe of his most faithful knights in a desperate attempt to seal the Chaos, leaving his kingdom to his bride. Personally, I believe he died with a smile on his lips as the Cursed One freed him from his torment. Truly, a man worthy of respect and mourning.

People here were crediting the weakness of the demons in Dark Souls 3 to the actions of the Ivory King and his Queen but I think they did more than that, in Dark Souls 2 the Demon's Great Hammer's description outright says "The origins of its name are unclear. Its tremendous weight suggests that it was never intended for humans. Perhaps it was an offering to the demons that appear in legend. " Meaning that people had forgotten that demons existed and enough time had passed for any record of them to be confused for myth, I'd like to credit all that on the Ivory King, his Knights, and his Queen. They suppressed the demons long enough and so effectively to not only greatly weaken them but also to have the world forget that goddamn demons existed despite having their weapons floating about. Another thing is that when you descend into the old chaos yourself, you don't see a single demon there. It's just the Loyce knights and their king. They kicked so much demon ass and for so long, that the birthplace of demons didn't have any demons to throw at you and people forgot demons were even a thing. That's bloody badass.

This man is one of the only True Heroes in Dark Souls. Many kings are hailed like such at the beginning; but all have a dark side to them that you learn as you continue. But not the Ivory King. He was good and true, and even Hollowed and Burnt, you can tell he still sates the Old Chaos. His death is not the loss of a Hero, but the Freedom of a Legend's Tortured Soul. He rivals Artorias in story, but exceed him in compassion. When met with the Dark, he did not destroy it, but let it drink his strength to become something more than the sum of it's parts. The only hero truly deserving of a song. Besides us, of course.

The Ivory King was better than Artorias in my opinion. The Ivory king fought on against the Chaos and the darkness for his people, Artorias was just another servant of Gwyn the true villain in dark souls. The Ivory King also completed his quest, sealing away the old chaos while Artorias' legend is a lie. It's sad everyone pisses on DS2, it might not be as magnificent as 3 or interconnected as 1 but damn if it didn't have the best lore story until Ringed city and Ariandel.

@hunterotte40855 жыл бұрын
@@mustafao09008 If you want a short version, go watch VaatiVidya's remastered version of the Izalith episode. Its complicated and very hidden in the lore. The chaos of course was born of the chaos flame, but despite the common consensus that people think is that they tried to make a 2nd flame to replace the first, that is actually not confirmed. Another explanation that I feel makes more sense is that they tried to bolster their pyromancy's power too much and eventually lost control of the flame they made. Hence Quelana always telling you to never let your flame consume you. Apon the chaos flames birth it consumed the family (except quelana, who had fled because she feared what would happen), turning them into what they are now. Two sisters (the balls next to the bed of chaos) were sacrificed along with the mother taking in the flame to calm the chaos (the "avatar of chaos" is what comes out when you destroy the 2 balls). The only son was the first (either him or fire sage, I forget) to transform and his transformed state was in constant pain, so one sister gave him a ring to quell the pain (orange charred ring). One day he dropped it, never to see it again and continue suffering since then. The white lady and Qualag were very close, one day the white lady noticed an infection in blighttown and devoured it against Qualag's warnings and wishes to protect the people of Blighttown and became very ill. She was made a firekeeper so that humanity would flourish within her as that is what eased the pain, and Qualag and Kirk would too bring her humanity from those they have slain to help her. It didn't help enough, and she sits in constant pain and we go on to kill Qualag and whether we kill Kirk or not he stops coming to help her. Quelana believes all of her family is suffering when its only 2 of them, but unaware she tells us to kill them to end their pain and feels guilty for abandoning them. As for demons themselves, they are not as chaotic as one would think. After the flame was calmed by the daughter's and mother's sacrifice, everything gained order and a kingdom flourished. They would go on to be attacked by Gwyn's black knights for he ignorantly believed they were a threat and a war was waged, no victor was ever claimed. After the flame was released by the Witches death it flourished anew on the land of Farossa and the Ivory King came to deal with it. After so long of fighting it and the corrupting effects of being near a daughter of the abyss he left her with a promise, the kingdom, and a blade symbolizing their lives together. He went on to sacrifice himself to the chaos, plunging into the chaos's heart and freezing eleum loyce in time. We go on to kill him and end his suffering and his wifes burden. After this the flame begins dying, and the kingdom of demon's who have been attacked by Gwyn, and subdued by the Ivory King, they are weakened into pitiful states of their former glory. And by ds3 another force, Lothric, attacks the demons. It was a unprovoked slaughter, the demon's stood no chance. And finally all that is left of the royalty is a severly beaten king and the prince, the final hope for demon kind. We end up killing him too. If there is ever a DS4, aside from maybe 1 hidden boss, I do not believe there will be any demons left. They were never a problem aside from sharing a land with Farossa, but they couldn't help that. All they wanted to do was live a peaceful existence but for whatever reason they always had war on their doorstep. The demon's themselves are not even chaotic at this point, shown by how they could build a literal civilization with a hierarchy and broker a peace treaty with Gwyn (basically Gwyn calls off the Black Knights and the Demon's must give them some demons as slaves, the batwing demons and the Guardian Beast being 2 examples).

Throughout the whole souls series I've found 3 of the most honorable and memorable characters to grace our presence. The First was Solaire, while not the First Born of the Sun he was the true Heir of the Light. Always shining in the darkest of times. The Second was our favorite onion knight, a true exemplar of the knights of Catarina and as great a friend as Solaire. The Third was the Ivory King, a man long since lost, who stared right into the Chasms of Chaos with a true heart and stood stalwart against the darkness for the sake of all. A true King. It's hard to beat souls such as these.
@hunterotte40855 жыл бұрын
The souls series indeed has very few TRULY heroic figures, many tyrants and mad ones, and innumerable brave ones. My top 3 (technically 4) heroic figures would be the Ivory King at the top, the second would be King Vendrik and sharing the spot for similar reasons would be his brother Aldia, and 3 way tied 2nd would be Gael. Odd rating I know but I should explain. The Ivory King dedicated himself to defending his kingdom, people, and loved ones. He accepted the daughter of the abyss at his side and inspired her to the point she overcame one of the strongest emotions and her whole beings point. And unlike most king's who send their armies to deal with an issue, he build his throne above the problem so that anything that crawls out would be forced to face him first. And when he was drained of most his energy, he gave everything to his wife and plunged into the chaos's heart to quell the flame. Sacrificing even his soul to protect the kingdom he cared for. King Vendrik was like, but not quite the Ivory King. He too did everything within his power to protect his kingdom, its people, and those he loved. But he was blinded by love, and his queen abused this. He didn't have the heart to fight his queen, so he put up defenses to block her progress. The looking mirror knight, the shrine of amana that hypnotizes beings of dark, and even severed the soul from his body. Velstaadt sealing the hollowed king in the crypts. He had his faults, but that is only human. Aldia, probably the oddest choice on the list due to the countless abominations he made and inhumane testing he committed. But one must understand, it is a necessity to understand the nature of souls and break the curse of the undead. Aldia dedicated his existence to this study, to correct the world and end the suffering of the cycle. Frankly I have no idea whether the form he is in was voluntary, or an accident. But he somehow found a way to transcend it himself, and yet still dedicated his time to trying to fix the world. One may even question if he is responsible for ds3, but that question will likely never be answered as we will never know the identity of the "First of the scholars", whom convinced Lothric to reject linking the fire and the rise of the unkindled, a being that could be described as "beyond the scope of light and beyond the reach of dark". Gael, existed since the time of the gods and even outlived his masters. He one day found himself in the painted world and met the new painter, acting as her caretaker. With his knowledge, devised a plan that would likely ruin him but end the cycle. Dedicating himself to a painting made from the dark soul of man. The world is destined to turn to dust, but when that does happen and everyone loses hope, they will awaken in a true dark age in the painted world. A dark age that will pass, and the world will carry on into a new age. This is why I like these characters so much. Solair and onion bro's, definitely amongst the bravest souls for sure.

I'll fill you in a bit: at the beginning of the world, 4 lord souls came from the first flame. These lord souls were life, death, light, and dark. The beings that claimed these souls laid the foundation for the entire world, but one by one, each of them was weakened or corrupted. The life soul and the dark soul are the important ones in the Ivory King's (the guy the song's about) story. The life soul was corrupted when its holder, the witch of Izalith, tried to create another first flame. It didn't work, and instead created the chaos flame, along with demons. The bed of chaos, what became of the witch, and the source of all demons, was defeated in dark souls 1 and had its soul removed, but it did not die. The chaos flame kept burning, and demons kept being created. The dark soul, at the beginning of the age of fire, was split into countless fragments, and these fragments created humanity. In the first game's DLC, it was revealed that humanity can corrupt when it is tempered with. A pygmy named Manus, an ancestor of humanity, had his humanity tempered with, and it created a corrupting darkness called the Abyss. Manus was killed in the first game's DLC, but his rampant humanity split into shards. The Ivory King was a knight who found the bed of chaos, and built a fortress called Eleum Loyce to contain it. He positioned his throne right in front of the entrance, so that he would be the first line of defence against whatever demons escaped. Eventually a shard of manus, Alsanna, sought to become his queen. As a child of the Abyss, she intended to use him for her safety, and to grow in power from him. The Ivory King knew this, but still loved her the same. Eventually, the chaos flame began to grow out of control, and to appease it, the Ivory King dove into the depths of chaos. He was burnt, corrupted, and had his soul consumed, but he succeeded in appeasing it. Alsanna continued to watch over the entrance, honoring her king who loved her despite her nature, and who allowed her to grow above it. Eventually, you come to Eleum Loyce, and Alsanna wishes for you to finally let her king rest. So you, and the last remaining Loyce knights, jump into the bed of chaos, and finally let the Burnt Ivory King die. As he dies, he says one final word. "Alsanna." Also, Aviators is just one dude. Makes it even better.

Can we just talk about how this guy had a city potentially more powerful and bigger than Gwyn's built upon COLD instead of flame? Ivory king Vs Gwyn, I'd say Ivory king wins, Simply because his cause was the most noble, Gwyn was the one who committed the first sin, i don't see the Ivory king doing anything outright evil just for his own gain, Hell, He got himself killed to protect someone he knew was evil simply because he trusted her to change, If anyone deserved Gwyn's power, It was the Ivory king.
@jefferycrouse46524 ай бұрын
Ivory king is better in every way except power. Gwyn and the original lords were titans of power. The burnt hollowed Gwyn we meet in the kipn he might take in a fight but Gwyn at the height of his power was literally on a different level from anything else in the games. He slew dozens of ancient dragons with his lightning volleys

God this song is so damn good, excellent closer to an excellent album. The story itself is certainly one of my favorites from the whole of the Dark Souls series. A King whom sacrifices himself for his kingdom and his Queen, who he knows was there to take his soul for herself; but showed her only love in return and changed her entire worldview, is one of the most romantic things I've ever seen in any media whatsoever.

You know what? I always liked Ivory King and having song about him is great. Particalary as a story of a man, a mortal, not a legend nor god, seing result of what he has done by our own eyes. Story of Ivory Kind is one of many others telling more "human" and local stories of Dark Souls 2 which is beautiful.
@nathanjora76274 жыл бұрын
Rstan I mean... The dude was pretty much a legend though. He ain’t the chosen undead or the cursed one of DS1 and 2, he is a mighty king and all that. Still a badass though.

The real Chad Meme of Dark Souls. - Was a warriors before he was King, led his knights by example, inspired such loyalty that they were willing to go into literal Hell for him - Loved his Child of Dark so, she stood loyal vigil for him so long, even his name was forgotten by others. - Loved his pets, even when they got tainted he just put them somewhere safe - His plan pretty much worked, in DS2 all of Chaos is confined and in DS3 it's so weak that its last hope, the Demon Prince hot killed by Laurian.

Amazing song about an amazing character of an amazing series of games. Besides, I love how you use a Majula-like theme to refer the game and infuse in the song a sense of peace for anybody who played the game and to whom Majula really was a peaceful place.
@meunierduhoussoypaul73154 жыл бұрын
Which also nod to the talent of From to create peaceful areas, through the atmosphere and the musical theme, in the middle of unforgivable worlds. Cause it always struckme how the Firelink Shrine (the 1st one mostly) and the Majula themes were stuck in my head and were always synonyms of peace after a long and harsh journey

This song has rekindled my love for Dark Souls 2. It was the first of the "soulsborne" series I have ever played and what sparked my love for the franchise as a whole. The first time I played I wasn't a hero of old or the Chosen One, I was a person looking for a cure for the Undead Curse in an old kingdom. I felt helpless and like my journey was in vain, and this feeling only increased the second time I found Aldia. I now have DS1 and I am having a blast however the more I play the more I want to go back to the sequel. Alright I am gonna play some DS2 now and just appreciate the game that started it all for me.
