Let There Be Fire is a SoulsBorne inspired album after all, so I looked to Bloodborne once again for inspiration. This time, as a spiritual successor to "No One Will Save You," I've told another sad tale of unfortunate encounters with a higher power. Long ago, an unnamed fisherman hears voices beneath the waves and wanders from his decrepit village out into the Deep, to find ascension in death and to have audience with the mother of the ocean. "When Our Bodies Wash Ashore" is a Lovecraftian tale of madness and unholy infatuation with the deep wonders below.
It's also very nearly a 10 minute song, so I may have gone a little mad myself.

Lyrics:
Are you waking up afraid
Are you brave enough to glance behind the curtain
To use the eyes inside
Have you felt them in your sleep
Have you seen them in a vision that's uncertain
A dream outside your mind
Once come upon in and ancient land
I've heard the tales of an unseen hand
Myths of the otherside that took my breath away
Out in the deep I've seen something real
The mouth of the void that the waves conceal
Speaking low, as my thoughts draw near the fray
When the currents carry on
Lifeless waves we float along
There's a solemn depth below
Deeper truth I cannot know
Our own hastened time has come
In this death our minds are young
When our bodies wash ashore
Sorrow's children nevermore
Are you scared to look behind
Do you feel the breath of sunken apparitions
Awake, impure, divine
Now I'm sure they're coming soon
In the blackness my unholy friend has spoken
Through a shiver in my spine
My own senses wash away
I've let go of my eyes
Grant me life beyond the veil
For this humble sacrifice
You're the next to float along
As we all grow insane
Let the dream pull you below
No more watchers will remain
So bring me close to you
I want to be consumed
I'm transcending yet alive
Grant me vision deep inside
Transformed and unafraid
This earthly vessel fades

This makes me think of a tumblr post I once saw: “If you find bones in the forest, sit a bit and listen. They are old and have some good stories to tell. Maybe they’ll teach you a spell or two, or teach you where all the water on the planet came from. If you find bones by the ocean, run. Don’t look back. Run, faster, faster. The sea may love you, but there are nights where she knows no mercy nor science, and the bones warn you only once.”

I’m usually to busy having the crap scared out of me by the foghorn, but I just noticed that right after he says: “I want to be consumed.”, he emphasizes the exhale and adds just a little bit of shakiness to it, and it makes that whole section have just that little touch of rapturousness. Everything about this song is just nailed.

@@sheol8989 Actually, in the very beginning of the game you are given a blood transfusion and all throughout the game you either inject or consume a crap ton of blood in the form of blood vials, the blood you get from certain characters you send to Oedon Chapel, beast blood pellets, and even the Blood Echoes you get from killing pretty much anything in the game. The game effectively _revolves_ around the consumption of blood. However, I do disagree with the other guy's comment. _Some_ Hunters fight for the next drink of blood, but only those who are blood drunk and thus are becoming little more than the rabid beasts they used to slay. At least until they are put down like beasts by individuals like Eileen the Crow. However, most Hunters fight for many different reasons depending upon the individual. Gherman fought to protect the innocent and to grant mercy to those who turned into beasts, Ludwig fought for the church and to do what he thought was right, ect. What the main Hunter you play as fights for depends entirely upon the players interpretation of their own character.
@sheol8989
@sheol8989 4 жыл бұрын
@@noneofyourbusiness2437 Yeah but they aren't doing it as like.. If they wanted the blood for their pleasure? The guy's comment makes the Hunters look like sadistic freaks when they're not that. Blood-Drunk Hunters aren't really Hunters anymore, they're pretty much the same as any other Beast in Yharnam, a GOOD HUNTER consumes blood only as a need to survive, not as a desire.

I personally think the peace might come from the idea of abandoning everything human and natural. If your brain can't process it, it chooses not to. If all that is left can't be understood then there is nothing meaningful left. Total absence of anything significant. A haunting but blissful state of utter nothingness. Nothing needs to be processed. Nothing needs to be understood. It can just simply be....

Heeeyyyy it's Avi doing his longest damn song yet, and surprise surprise, it's amazing! This song is so haunting and carefully constructed. I know you were thinking of Nine Inch Nails's "The Background World" while making this one. In all honesty, I think this long song has more to say for itself. It's still Aviators with your wall-of-sound techniques but you incorporate all these beautiful, chilling elements. The piano I think is a major highlight of this song, really makes you feel like you're at sea or something and the horrors of the deep are about to consume you. Possibly one of your best works yet. Really makes you stand out from the crowd with how prog-y and atmospheric this stuff is. I'm really glad you got into Soulsborne, it's honestly shaped your identity as a musician and helped improve your work a lot. Keep up the awesome music, Avi! And thanks for making me so darn obsessed with your music!

No worry some were decieved they bidding time in the shadows to redeem themselves in the end only bodies are thrown into the fire their spirit returns to where spirits came heaven then through the fire their robes white once more. Love to the watchers hiding in the shadows waiting for the word Thank them for standing to protect serve and watch over us sinners for they truly do not know what they do in evil one realm. The music at times sounds like what could be voices of great ones speaking to you, I love those parts. Very immersive. I also like how while No One Will Save You Now explored the more Gothic aspect of Bloodborne's horror, this one explored the cosmic horror of it. Love it, 11/7.

I literally just realized that there's a lower pitch version of Avi's voice parallel to the normal voice. While Aviators does this often, here I feel it symbolises the "unholy friend" the singer mentions. Or I could be looking too deep. That seems likely.

Age of deep sea, a reflection of the depths of a Star Ocean. Endless Cosmos, a darkness beyond human ken where the old one lay in slumber to send demons into our souls.... or enlightenment. Shall we sink into it's eternal black, or form a new Enterprise of discovery to be a candle in the dark? This is no mere Field of Kings at play. We must rise to the challenge even should we die twice or more.

tw: suicide I have attempted suicide several times in my life and this song describes perfectly the state of mind I was in each time I tried it. I only attempted suicide when I was so so so so very tired. I tried to sleep in snow, my body feling heavy, as if being sucked into the ground and cold seeping in, my mind drifting to unconsciousness. Unafraid, feeling liberated from the fatigue and pain. I was saved each time by my friends or some other folks who found me sleeping. I am not suicidal anymore and please don't do what I did, seek help instead.

Honestly, from the moment I heard this as a WIP, I knew this would be the song that'd be the closest to my heart. It's got powerful, driving synths and strings, beautiful vocals, and just a very spooky, almost atmospheric ambience that just drives home the point of the story; a slow, slippery descent into insanity. Also, 5 verses! _FIVE_!
