I like how he's really trying to sell us on bass extenders/subs that cost $18k per pair not for their sonic qualities, but because they really add "value" based on doubling as speaker stands lol.

The bass extending stands are actually designed to turn the ones into cardioid main monitors so it eliminates front and side wall bounce. Might not be worth it for mixing engineers but for mastering it's extremely worth it.

So close to pulling the trigger on a pair to go with my 8351s, but I don't think that my room justifies these just yet. I need to find a better space to work in before these would be fully utilised and justify the expense.

Hard to understand why the crossover point is not automated by GLM. The software should do a better job than 95% of all users.

djvartan well you could solve that and buy speakers made in a sweat shop somewhere in Asia. Genelec however choose to pay fiat wages and manufacturer in Finland. I’m personally happy to pay the premium. Great speakers with a clear conscience. 😎

​@@bondi5000 That's not entirely true about other speakers, and I also think it's quite insulting to Asians as a sweeping statement. Let's be real here, can you tell me that a W371 is objectively worth around $13k? On a material level, that's absurd. Even when you factor in the wages, the design, yada, yada. That money is literally a pair of 8361a, which already don't have any real need for a subwoofer! While I respect the performance of Genelec and their products 100%, I think objectively speaking, their pricing is a bit abusive. A pair of Neumann KH310 cost half of 8341. While the Genelecs are better, I don't believe they're 100% better. I'd be happy to pay 50% more, but not double the cost. And BTW, Neumanns monitors are made in Europe as well, and the KH310 are used by Disclosure... so I do believe your point is as moot as the fools defending Apple and their 'quality'.

k b whats the new name? Low end extension? Listening to the system they dont sound like what people think of as a sub sound. The freequency range and the purpouse of the speakers also indicates its not a sub... in many pro level full range systems this would not categorize as a sub.

stealthis its not. A subwoofer usually handles sub 80hz freequency. The w371a is designed to handle up to hz 500. 500hz is not a sub harmonic in terms of pro level audio I think. So its nothing wrong with actually calling it what it is imo. its not a pure subwoofer all though it covers some of the sub harmonic freq range.

​​@@djdeepkanga1245Have you ever designed a sub? Extension to 500 is the easy part. Getting 20hz and below is problematic. Any decent pa midrange can play up to 500hz even the big ones. I currently run sb audience as my mains

Its a studio quality subwoofer that is integrated with the 37- series. If the sub is taking care of frequencies up to 200hz, the smaller monitor on top only has to work from 200hz ~ 20khz instead of 20hz~20khz. Basically you'll get less bass distortion.
