@@itsnoahonfire Patti definitely beat Whitney as far as vocal power goes. Then again Patti beat almost anybody as far as vocal power goes. I can't think of anyone who could come close to out belting her especially when she was in her prime. Not even Celine Dion. And she's a powerful singer as well.

Patti LaBelle is the BEST Singer of ALL TIME, this Voice is a one gift from heaven for us. She is simply UNBELIEVABLE, true LIVING LEGEND. Patti is incomparable and monstrous. Look, this is not by far one of her greatest performances, there are others, even at a more advanced age, including this year or last year, in which she is simply supernatural! The voice of this legend, it only gets better, it only gets better.

It really is the canonical R&B version. It always trips me out when someone who only knows the ukulele/folk version hears someone do a version inspired by Ms. Patti and they are wow'd. Meanwhile, I'm thinking, it's good, but they copied a lot of Patti's version.

I've been a Patti Labelle stan since I was in diapers. Her voice is so expressive. Only 3 artists make me want to thrown my shoes across the room (that's a high compliment when I am moved to throw my shoes at you). Jazmin Sullivan, Jennifer Hudson and Ms. Patti Labelle. If they ever sang together I would pass out.

Being new to her music, I can see how astonished you seem. She not only range, but there are some songs that are rarely reacted to that are amazing. I really hope you will react to TWO of her greatest LIVE performances EVER: 1) You are My Friend/What a Friend at the Essence Awards (I think year 2000) and one rarely reacted to at all that shows a more classical side: "If You Love Me Hymne a' l'amoure! People always try to knock her talent. She has many signatures and other vocal capabilities live that I have never heard anyone do. She can literally create powerful vibrations that feel very physical live. Recordings don't capture this aspect. I'm guessing it's some type of vibration incorporating her body. My closest analogy is if you watch a videos of alligators in water vibrate and make the water jump it's like the literal equivalent. She does this and it's one reasons rhe crowd goes wild but you will never experience this through headphone.

I know lots of people are asking why would you pick this, but I actually LOVE this performance. This is around the time Patti lost her otherworldly, incomparable belting prowess, though it doesn't show here (she started relying mostly on head voice since 2016). I would say this is one of her last GREAT performances, and around this time she preferred to be more dynamic than earlier in her career, making good use of the more delicate parts of her voice. Gorgeous. I know she would hate this, but it's kind of like a swansong for me. And belting that way until 70 is just so impressive.

Actually this isn't the Patty signature ending. She's 70 man ok. Maybe she can't do it anymore. But please look up an old video. Pretty much the same song but the very ending is different. I have seen her do that ending for a few years now. But the old Patty ending took ALOT ALOT ALOT and not many tried to follow them footsteps. Simply Red tried to do it and actually recorded her version with her blessings l. Jennifer Hudson did the Patty ending at a Party LaBelle tribute and got it right. Can't say I've ever seen anyone else do the OLDER Patty style ending to this song. She basically goes thru her entire vocal range on the word before the last. Why CAAAAAAAAAAAAN'T I. And on that 1 word Patty powerfully scales her entire vocal register. Perhaps she can't do it anymore but dang it she did and it's recorded.

Dude. You are a little late to the Patti Labelle game. This performance is nowhere near her best. I highly recommend you look up her version of Look to the Rainbow in the black dress, or Over the Rainbow and some of her other live performances. And you will discover that Patti LaBelle is the best underrated singer ever. Her performances and her voice will literally leave you speechless. Check out some of her performances back when she was in her prime. You will not be disappointed. You will be blown away, literally. And that is no exaggeration.

She lives near my old job and came in to shop. She's unbelievably kind/socially graceful.

U can’t analyze the shit out of feeling and that’s how she sings. I’ve heard her sing this prob over a hundred times and each time it’s completely different. Her mouth opened and what ever she feels pours outs.

This is not your favorite version of Over the Rainbow, when she singing in the red dress is your favorite when she was doing a tribute to Martin Luther King

The thumb up is for Patti. Dude, you talk too much. You would be better off listening to her and dissecting her voice later. it will give you a chance to put your thoughts together. Just a thought. sorry, I can't subscribe to u, your analyzing would drive me nuts. but good luck with ur thing.
