Austin enjoy your videos. I’m a 77 year old welder that got my sight back four years ago, cataracts removed and new lenses both eyes. So thankful and blessed. Have a great weekend.

Hey Austin, you know there is white noise videos of thunderstorms , raging creeks, frogs and crickets. Well you should make one of burning rod ,grinding,and a welding machine idling in the back ground, simply because as you say it's soothing.👌

Had a family friend that was a lifelong pipeliner pass away. His wife gave me a bunch of Lincoln 1/8" 6010 and 5/32" 8018. I had never ran 6010, never even heard of 8018. All we'd ever really used on the ranch was mostly 6011, some 7014, 6013, 7018 all usually the cheap crap..Hobart mostly. Been using the pipeline rod and Holy Crap what a difference!! What a joy to run! SO much easier!

I see you are using several different methods of starting your rod arc. One seems to be you are shorting your rod, lowering your hood and then pulling the rod away to initiate arc. Am I correct? That probably wouldn’t work with a electrically powered welder? What shade lens are you using that you can see to position your rod with the hood down using normal scratch start?
@LandinChase21 күн бұрын
What motion do you make with the rod when you run the cap. Struggling with consistency and bead appearance on my caps. Thanks!

Do you ever get a tightness feeling in the chest from breathing in those fumes ? I know sometime after a whole day of welding with no respirator I can feel the difference

Take it from a old crack filler that got his training back in 78 to 80 as a beginner in the welding business, now retired you've come a long way has a proficient welder. It's good to see a young man take pride in his chosen field, hard work does pay off. And always protect those eyes they are your bread and butter, all the best in future in future endeavors. maybe dumb but what kinda motion are you doing running the root
@noahgavin8646 Жыл бұрын
Just drag it. If it starts burning to 1 side you sort of twist it like he did in the video. If your running too hot or the gap gets too big you can step it carefully like he did at one point as well. But I’m perfect circumstances you should be able to just drag it down and it should go in like butter.
@noahgavin8646 Жыл бұрын
Twist it/move side to side to get the rod burning evenly again*

@@noahgavin8646 I just finished my first semester of welding 101 and I’ve done nothing but ran beads on flat plates and when I started with 6010 I was taught the whip technique where you whip out of the weld pool and I didn’t know if it was the same motion but watching this he wasn’t manipulating the rod as much so I was just curious…. I just moved on from overhead 7018 and will be doing Tjoins and open butt this weekend

That 8010 is that what they call hippy rod? Seems like I burned a hell of a lot of that almost 30 years ago on the Olympics project in Snow basin Utah. Could never remember the rod number but it was downhill with a tiny whip and looked and sounded like that. It is therapeutic for sure!

Hey Austin, first of all a great video and from the looks of it it was also very hot, I haven't seen you sweat like that in 1 of your videos. The weld looked good but I would also like to see the weld on the inside, can you film that once. I will continue to follow you and wish you a very nice weekend with greetings from Holland, take care of yourself.
