Man, I'm saying this because I genuinely want to know what I'm doing wrong, but I bought the new Fantom 08 and I keep asking myself who would like these piano sounds? I can't figure out why they sound so awful. I know stuff is subjective but I just keep thinking maybe I'm not eq'ing them correctly. I'm going to call Roland's customer service on it.

I owned the D50 & D550, JV1000 keyboard, JD800 synth, XV5080, Fantom S (upgraded to the G8) and then took on an integra. integra was just like having a load of EMU Proteus boards, no. If the new Fantom took the main design from the Fantom G, kept the non-touch screen based OS but enhanced it further, then I'd consider it.

I would love this if I could afford it, I really want a 'main' keyboard with over 49 keys for a home piano like performance but with synth options. Almost $5.5K AUD is way too far out of my price range. I'm going to get the Roland GAIA SH-01 this week, its on sale for $725.

$5.5? $4.5k over my own budget I'm afraid. The sounds are incredible. I'm using a Native Instruments S61 MKII MIDI keyboard at the moment; have always wanted a self-contained synthesizer though. All the best with your purchase 👍

There's nothing wrong with the GAIA SH-01, I know I've got one but yes it would be MUCH NICER to be able to afford the Fantom I'm sure 🤔🤔 I'm not sure if you are just joking about getting a GAIA SH-01 or not ?? but you can't even compare it to the Fantom in the slightest 🤔🤔 The one thing I hate about the GAIA SH-01 is not hving aftertouch but hey it's about 6 times cheaper than a Fantom 8 so maybe I shouldn't moan so much about it 🤔😢😢 Glen 😇😇

to be honest, you can do better. a computer such as a mac running Logic Pro X as an example, a stock of various soft synths and a decent controller such as a studiologic SL88 studio or grand, a drum trigger pad system for samples / drum programming and away you go. The Fantom, though it sounds amazing, has limitations, compare the spec against a korg kronos as an example. There's no huge breakthrough in how this makes a better workflow. Using Scenes is the same as the Yamaha Montage / ModX, etc, nothing new. In fact that limits users who want to program filter, etc It's an operating system that's lost it's way and from what I'm told by an owner, he, like me, misses the user interface of the older fantom series like the G.

I have a Roland Jupiter - 80 and I'm wondering if in terms of sounds and sound creation if this new Fantom is an upgrade over the JP-80! I don't think so..... No keyboard manufacturers have ever made realistic guitar sounds except Yamaha's Genos which sounds of guitars are good enough with various articulations however Roland in the field of guitars is very weak their top of the range keyboard like this one guitars sounds really really bad and is not worth of calling a guitar.....there is only one way to create guitar patches and that is through sampling but sampling guitar and it's numerous articulations is a tedious task and needs expertise.......

These Supernatural sounds are in the Integra 7. I’m guessing you can get the same type of effects with the proper midi controller. The Axial site lets you update the Integra 7 so you’ll always have the latest from Roland. I wouldn’t mind getting a Fantom but I think I’d be doubling up too much on the sounds. That’s spending too much money on sounds I already have.

Literally no Synths beat Yamaha sounds and its Articulattions 😌.... for instance Yamaha Tyros 5 and Genos (Arranger keyboards) AND of course Yamaha Montage 2016 and Now the real beast, literally, without any exaggeration and bias, Montage M series..... takes the win easily and righteously. In case if acoustic sounds, i believe almost everyone agree that Yamaha is/has been number One for many decades Although I personally own Kronos 2 and Fantom O-8..... beside Montage, Tyros 5 and Genos.... they are truly incredible in many aspects... BUT Yamaha sounds is something else....and the most important thing in a keyboard whether it's Synth or Workstation or Arranger... is quality and versatility of the sounds and sound making features such as layering, effects, ( digital or analog or analog emulator) DSP and etc. In case of user interface and the "Flow"... Korg, Roland in some cases do much better.... (not always of course ) But at the end.... Sound quality and the Articulations of Yamaha is incomparable .Period By the way sequencer in Yamaha montage M series is incredible in every aspect... if you don't believe me please try it yourself dears.... I love all the major brands and their innovations but when a product is indeed near perfect, we have to respect it and accepted until the next major product In terms of price, not so much satisfaction 😕😕

Anyone comparing the Fantom to Kontakt or a VST probably has never owned something like this. I have loads of Kontakt libraries that I paid good money for. I also own lots of synths and keyboards. The Fantom is an true instrument, just like all keyboards. There's something more creative about playing a real instrument compared to a VST. If you bought lots of sample libraries to get the same sounds out of a keyboard like this, you'd probably spend around $1500 or more. So in that perspective, the Fantom is not too expensive.
@truthmanifestingtruth
@truthmanifestingtruth 3 жыл бұрын
But the Fantom is $4000. $4000 vs $1500 for the same high quality (or even better in some instances) makes the vsts a better bargain in my opinion. If someone already has a stable computer and a midi keyboard with plenty of control capabilities, then vsts could be the better option for them. If someone is starting from scratch, this Fantom could probably be the better option for them, because getting everything could end up being around the same costs unless one is very frugal and resourceful.✌🏾

I'm sorry, but I now have to do this, I'm left with little choice but to do this. Ladies & Gentlemen, I have to bring this to your attention, not that you'd care about this because it doesn't affect you. Over the many years, I have been a loyal professional roland products owner and user, in fact well over 20 years plus.. In that time, the last few years have seen Roland take itself in to directions where quality and design have changed, and not for the better. It used to be a principle where you could reasonably get around an instrument if you were visually impaired or blind, now, since the new fantom and also Roland Cloud, not anymore. Since the launch of Roland cloud, Roland have deliberately excluded blind and visually impaired customers from using their products, even to today. Roland have made this even worse with the release of the Roland Fantom (touch screen version). Also with regards any software they now release. There is absolutely no consideration to "Universal Accessibility" in the design of the software or hardware and as such, blind and visually impaired users worldwide are being punished for this. I have spent the last few years bringing this matter to Roland Directors attention in vane. Recently I have tried yet again, to be completely ignored. I have spent valuable time demonstrating the issues, principles, solutions, etc, for the whole thing to be ignored. Roland claims to be "inclusive" and that music should be for everyone. That is not true. If it was for everyone, then product design would cater accessibility for users like myself who rely on speaking computers like the Mac running VoiceOver and Logic Pro X or Protools / Protools HD, etc. Due to the refusal of any of the parties at Roland USA, Roland Japan, Roland UK, to respond, I'm putting this here. Mind you, not that any of you reading this would actually care as you're only interested in clicking a mouse to use an instrument and get amazing sounds from it. But, what if that was you without sight and wanted to use these products and services? then you're in the same boat as I. I am deeply ashamed of Roland Corporation and angered by their total lack of dignity and respect in the matters raised. You might think my case isn't important. Just think of what that would be like if this was you. you woke up one morning to see nothing. yes, it happens. I lost my sight over 20 -1/2 years ago due to an assault, I woke from a coma to nothing, like being in a black room, no light, nothing, that's how it is for the rest of my life. I don't let that stop me at all. I'm a successful musician and composer, have been in the Accessibility in Music technology scene for years, so know this inside out. I'll share with you just what it is like and what you go through when your sight is taken from you, then you will hopefully understand why I'm doing this... Put yourself in the position of waking up one morning, to see nothing, just, blackness… if that. you’re convinced it’s still night, how could you tell the time? how could you find your way around your environment? how could you use a computer, read a news paper, etc? You can’t, without training, technologies that will support you, such as a talking watch, a long cane (or guide dog for the blind), a speaking phone, computer with a screen reader installed, etc. Think then of the fact that the job you do requires eyesight, Due to this, you’d have to go on sick leave, no guarantee your bosses will keep your job open for you. In that time, you’d have to go for rehabilitation training to give you the basics to survive, otherwise you’d likely lose your mind and attempt suicide. I know that to be the case, because that happened with me. yet the suicide attempts failed. If you’ve ben driving a car or riding a bike, you won’t be able to do that, you’ll never see the faces of people you know or love again, you’ll have to remember their voices, scents, etc, your entire sighted world has vanished in to thin air, to be replaced by darkness, nothingness, just sound, smell, taste, touch, then the interceptive and receptive senses which you have to adapt to, it can be either easy or hard, depending on the fight you have with your own self and what you need to do. Do you either resign to a life of sitting in a chair doing nothing, or do you fight back and adapt your body and mind to work around your newly found limitations, for me, that’s what I did, fight back, not everyone does, it takes balls of steel to do that. You could work for Roland still, but your bosses would have to adapt your workflow, you’d be having to completely retrain. Have you ever read music braille before? sorry, stupid question. no. you’d have to if you were a musician, unless you can ear train. What you and anyone else doesn’t realise is this… Technology changes the lives of blind and visually impaired people around the world, from a speaking watch, to a speaking phone like the iphone from the 3GS onwards, which I was involved in, along with VoiceOver for the Mac, iOS, TV OS, etc over the years, some of my finest work is embedded in to voiceover and without it, it wouldn’t provide what it does now. Say, like me, you’re a musician, fully blind, in a recording studio you don’t know, brought in as an engineer / tape op. there’s a DAW based setup, you run your fingers around the system to ascertain if it’s mac or windows based. If it’s Windows, you’re screwed completely, no music accessibility for you. If however it’s a mac, chances are you can work with it depending on the studio’s software installed. If it’s Logic Pro X and / or Protools 9 / HD9 and above, then yes, you’re good, you can start working, providing you know how to use VoiceOver and know how to navigate functions, set up a console to become a spoken console, etc. If you can do these things, then music production is achievable. The problem, as I’ve continually tried to show to your company, banging my head continually against a brick wall, is this… You are a major, highly respected manufacturer, you’ve had me as a customer for about 20 years or so using older hardware, etc but promoting your brand, supporting your brand. Your company has changed focus that many times I’ve lost count. In that, you’ve no longer become supportive or understanding of blind users, it’s like we just don’t matter. do we? It’s great when you produce a piece of software or hardware that moves, excites and challenges people, encourages new ways of producing and performing music. Not so great when you remove the blind community who would be happy to buy some of your hardware and software, using the Roland Cloud System, etc, , because your design principles and lack of any understanding what-so-ever means that you are discriminating against us, deliberately, whether intentionally or unintentionally. You must look at what you’re doing as a company and change this for the better. Your actions are damaging to your brands. What would it take for you to become the first major player in the music industry to say “We support blind musicians as well, our products will speak for themselves in how we can make positive changes globally.” How would that feel for you as a company?

@lewisalexander
@lewisalexander 4 жыл бұрын
@@kraftdinna5650 Thank you, I really appreciate your understanding and kind words. Roland used to be a fairly accessible hardware based manufacturer. I've owned everything from the D50 / D550 series to the Fantom G, not everything literally, but the range of hardware I've owned has covered various ranges. As soon as the Fantom G was killed off and support dropped, that was it, the end of decent workstations, Even the Integra, though usable, was poor, owned one, GOT RID OF IT because of bad software support. Since the new Fantom was released, it's the death of tactile accessible interfaces, everything is touch driven from a screen with no accessibility support like you'd find on an iphone or ipad running VoiceOver as an example or Google Android OS with a similar support level. Same with Korg, just as bad. Roland are pandering to a particular customer profile and abandoning those who actually do need their products, so, guys like me who've spent serious money with their brand over the years no longer matter, we don't exist, as such, Roland just doesn't care. The Roland Cloud at launch faced it's own problems as a subscription service by requiring in it's initial stages a constant online connection, which caused no end of problems, now that's changed for the better for the general consumer, However... from Day 1, this software is useless to a blind person, no screen reader can interact with it, not even the cloud manager resource, nothing. I've spent countless amounts of time reaching out to Roland and Roland Cloud about this, promised one thing, then nothing. Just to be lied to, then ignored. Yesterday, they received an email from me which states I will take action on an international level. I'm tired of this, doesn't affect just me, it affects people in the music industry with sight impairment / sight loss worldwide. How would they feel if that happened to them?

@@lewisalexander I don't know what it's like to be visually impaired but I feel for you and can't imagine how difficult it must be to live in this society where everything is switching over to touchscreen bullshit, and it's even worse that Roland is ignoring musicians like yourself with them not trying to provide accessibility to everyone. So much for progress in our society. Thanks for bringing this to our attention so we as their customers can demand they make their products accessible to people like you. In the meantime, I guess you'll have to just continue to use old equipment (and you shouldn't have to do that if you don't want to). Anyway, good luck out there bro! Roland, if you're reading this, you need to make your products usable by people with visual impairments! This is unacceptable in our supposedly more progressive and "civilized" world!!! All people deserve to experience the joy of music! As someone with past severe mental health issues, music literally saved my life and it saves the lives of visually impaired people too! And some partially and totally blind people make music their career (e.g., Stevie Wonder) and this shuts out an entire group of people from being able to work!!! You should be ashamed!

Fantom is only in its beginning stages. It grows with the response from users and players. Zen Core is basically all of Roland's history so that means all technologies that Roland have invented so far every single one of them resides within the Fantom. Zen core contains the Base samples of Supernatural. Roland only needed to add the modeling features via an update. There is more to come.

Fantom is a joke for the better part. It has hilarious issues with Polyphony that boards 40 years ago! Did not. The FA is capable of more without dropout than the Fantom series and that dropped back in 2014. You can ignore the other comment as he's a Fantom apologist, little more.

S1 Sw Assign ---> CC01: MODULATION S2 Sw Assign ---> CC 81: GENERAL-6 S3 Sw Assign --> CC82: GENERAL-7 With this, in SN Strings S1 increases the volumen and the tone, S2 makes Pizzicato, and S3 makes Tremolo.
