[TF2] Weapon Stereotypes! Episode 8: The Medic

Ever seen a person’s weapon and assumed something about how they play? Well, you’re not alone. In fact, most weapons in TF2 hold a certain stereotype. This series of videos aims to go over some of the most well-known weapon stereotypes in TF2.
Please keep in mind that I’m not saying that anyone who uses a certain weapon is a certain type of person. These videos are for fun. Sorry if I hurt your feelings or something.
This episode is about the Medic. I don't have a witty joke to make for the description, but let's be honest, nobody actually reads this anyway.

When I didnt have the crossbow I used the Blutsauger because well +3 health for every hit is way better then the Advantage the overdose gives you. ( please don't think that I'm saying that my opinion is superior to anyone elses because its not)

@@wile123456 I know, i said the only tweak needed was to take off the damage penalty, not to remove the while active. The while active needs to stay on the Amputator since its an "alternative" to the medigun. The damage penalty isn't needer because staying still to heal others is disadvantage enough and if its still OP, just make it so that you only get the +3 when you do the taunt. That way the Amputator would actually be a viable alternative to the stock or the ubersaw

@@wile123456 that's stupid. Even 20 HP per second wouldn't be enough to survive a firefight. Just look at those many cases of "You are healing an overextender that keeps himself wide open" and count how many seconds it takes for him to blow up. Extra regen is the comparatively least important part of the weapon. This weapon was designed specifically to allow the Medic to heal in medieval mode without the Crossbow. And it shows. Speaking of which, why nobody has yet invented a construction PDA for Medieval Mode, say only allowing to create a wall for snipers to hide with those fire candles, a manual catapult and something like that.

@@minder01 I'd say he's good all round. You can be pretty effective both on the frontline, the flanks and the backline with the same loadout, so it's easy to change tactics on the fly. Other classes are either mostly set to one position, or need a completely loadout change to be effective.

@@MrMozzie Look up the lore of the gun. A prototype of the stock (as labeled in game), it only ubered the healing target. Because it was an unstable prototype, the Uber ability broke after the first use, and now only half-works (resulting in a heal rate that may as well be invulnerability minus sniper/spy insta-kills).

As part of the endangered species known as the Pub Medic Main, I laughed ass off at how true the blutsauger, and quickfix stereotypes was. Also with regards with the solem vow, you may not see the use of seeing the enemy team's health but if your in a middle of a fight and a soldier drops right in front of you, knowing if you can kill him with a few syringes or a nice solid melee hit VS timing his rocket inorder to surf away has saved me and my team in so many scenarios

Same here, I got a liking for the Quick Fix, as it does exactly what I want in a situation where everyone is taking damage: it heals them faster. If I never live to see an Uber, that's fine, it's just a Quick Fix uber anyways. As for the Blutsauger, I stopped using it long ago... but I always get the urge to equip it again when I remember those memories of going toe to toe with a Pyro with it.

sorry for the wall of text Same it's currently my favourite loadout to focus on pure healing, i can zip out of a bad fight, including outrunning demoknights and pyros actively chasing me, as well as rush through danger to support my team, or chase down an ally that's low and can't or won't come get healing. The quickfix feels best but honestly I would love if it had the segmented uber rather then the vacc so I could use it to quickly boost up a heavy at 20 health to full, without wasting the whole uber on him. I've been using the vitasaw but it hasn't been super useful due to lack of melee opportunity so far, but it synergises with the overdose, I can get in and out of melee rangeefast af with the od, and when I die at full charge because i will (using uber costs me so i save it till it's needed) respawning with 60% isn't a negligible thing since thats 60% of my boost from spawn for a couple sneaky stabs when I'm already fast af, I get to the point heaps faster cause the tele is 50\50 and sometimes takes me to the wrong place, rather then my kritz which i constantly burn on whoever is in front of me rathering the ubersaw I think if the vita saw was 20% per stab so you only need three it would feel a bit better to use Also if the solem vow let me keep that spawn wallhack on my teammates it might be my favourite medic melee (despite bein kinda ugly)

I actually use the amputator and my god is it effective in payload maps, as soon as there's a door chokepoint all you need to do is sit to the side of the door while your team and the enemy team battles between the door frames and spam taunts, voila, you're healing your entire team in unholy amounts of burst heals and the enemy team can't get past because if one of them tries to go around they'll be one man short in the choke so you can sit and spam merrily away, getting billions of assists and eventually either the enemy will wise up and give an inch and start moving around, or, more commonly, give up and let the cart roll. The other big usage is when you have 2+ people on fire/bleeding etc crowding around you demanding heals and for that it excels since you can also passively heal anyone who happens to run past, i seriously have no idea why nobody else does this, i'm the only person i know or have seen to use the amputator like this and it makes no sense at all.

I use it as a personal healing source when there are no medkits/ sandviches nearby to patch me up, I don't mind the weak melee as if you are in a spot to rely on melee as medic then you are already up shitscreek.

I definitely fall under the "medic who doesn't trust his team to keep him alive" stereotype. I use the Blutsauger, the quick fix, but instead of the vita saw I use the amputator because it's passive healing effects help negate the -3 health per second effect on the blutsauger, so that way I don't have to constantly be on the look out for health packs or firing at the enemy team. And despite using the blutsauger, I use the quick fix the most and spread heals very evenly with it. I feel like you were spot in with this episode.

Too bad that the Health Regen got nerfed, so now it'll always be +1 more after taking damage and then build up to +4, so if you want to build your health by whipping out the Amputator, you don't get a huge advantage in health regen.

I use the Vaccinator for that exact reason too. Being able to pop a bubble to escape is godly on those situations. I stick to the Crossbow because of reasons, but I honestly think that the Ubersaw is unnecessary on non-stock mediguns, especially the Vaccinator that can even keep building during an Ubercharge for whatever reason, so I go with the Amputator. If the map is really open, however, I pick the Quick Fix and attempt to Medic Garden people with my Solemn Vow.

Sniper Stereotypes : Stock :"Its hard to judge this because so many people use it, so if you see one with a stupid nickname relating to a point and click adventure, you know that guy is 12 years old and most likely has an Edgy name with an anime profile picture and a Lime/Pink Anger hat with a low tier unusual effect" Huntsman : Annoying to combat because of the way TF2 hitboxes work, but a lot of fun to use. Generally used by people who are self-aware about how memey the weapon is and new players who dont know what they're doing Sydney Sleeper : Mainly used by people that are completely self aware about how much this thing will piss people off (both literally and figuratively). Actually pretty good in MVM due to explosive headshots and Jarate explosions FROM headshots. Machina : A weapon mostly used by people deliberately aiming for the body. People that use it will tend to go for a multi-kill, but will never actually land one intentionally, and as soon as they land that accidental penetration shot on that poor Medic that just happened to poke out of cover for a split second, they go ballistic in the chat and try to pass it off as if they intended for that to happen. Bazaar Bargain : A Weirdly under-used gun, you'd expect more Snipers to use it since it's essentially a Straight upgrade to stock in the hands of someone adept at quickscoping. Ironically however, the people that DO use this weapon tend to always wait until the full charge, and almost never land an actual headshot. Hitman's Heatmaker : A gun that was used a lot back around 2012-2013 because of how hilariously good it was, nowadays nobody really uses it unless theyre using the set, playing MVM or completely over-estimate their skills with it similar to a Warpig. The Classic : This unlovable hunk of shit is essentially the weaker, hitscan brother of the huntsman. It's really bad for 4 reasons, which I'm going to list below. 1. Delayed fire rate due to the awkward charging system 2. Reduced bodyshot damage 3. Cannot headshot until fully charged. 4. Excluding the perfectly straight shot and scope It's completely outclassed by the Huntsman. And because of these reasons, even New players tend to avoid this festering shitpile like the plague. The only people that use it are those who have just unlocked it and want to see if its as shit as everyone else says it is, and Weapon Hipsters. SMG : Probably Sniper's weakest Secondary in terms of utility. The main role for this thing is to finish off enemies that you just quickscoped/bodyshot that are getting too close for comfort. It's not terrible, but its really not that great either. Typically used by new players or Hunstman Snipers because it allows them to easily finish off a target that they failed to headshot. Jarate : Probably using it with the Bushwacka, also used by cool Snipers that value teamwork. Razorback : The most "Meh" Secondary in the game, Blocks 1 backstab attempt, which is just there to slightly inconvenience an enemy spy. Usually people will be using this with the Default Kukri or Shiv so that they can tear the enemy spy a new asshole with random critical hits and/or bleeding effects. Darwins Danger Shield : A secondary that's most likely going to be used by a Troll with a Pocket Vaccinator medic (Set to Bullet-resistance, of course) to annoy the other team's snipers. *Note This might become outdated with the release of the pyro update, In the event that this happens, Expect these guys to mainly just be using this thing as somewhat of a crutch so that Pyros dont screw up their aim* Cozy Camper : Rarely-if-Ever used by anyone. .Even new players tend to avoid this thing, It's not actually too terrible though. I guess the main stigma of this thing is "Well if most people play on 2fort, they could literally go walk 5 feet back to spawn" Which is kind of a fair point. Most of the people that use this, true to the name, will tend to camp in really weird spots and will always be crouching. Cleaner's Carbine : The Hitscan version of Jarate. Instead of being a thrown projectile that coats multiple people in Mini-crit inducing miracle piss, this stupid hunk of shit generates "Crikey" when you deal damage, once the "Crikey Meter" is full, it gives sniper 8 seconds of minicrits. Essentially this is a weapon made for those selfish Snipers that care more about their killstreaks than Teamwork. It's honestly not too bad, but not very interesting. The best way to describe it is "Half SMG and Half Jarate", the main problem being that it does both jobs poorly. It's slow fire rate and reduced Damage make it's functionality as an SMG questionable, and the Minicrit mechanic is arguably pretty terrible because Jarate does everything better. Like I said before, this thing is generally used by Killstreak-hungry Snipers trying to make a Bushwacka montage and New players for the most part. Kukri/Ham : Used by a lot of people because of it's ridiculous Crit rate and lack of a real downside. The Kukri is one of the best Stock Melee's in the game mostly due to the fact that its a flexible weapon that can work with a lot of builds, and because theres no other sniper Melee that completely surpasses it. Really great weapon all around. It and it's reskin, the Ham are used by basically 50% of all Snipers because of just how reliable this thing is. Tribalman's Shiv : Not too terrible of a weapon in all honesty. The bleeding effect, similar to the fire effect, really fucks with people's aim, so it can work well as an escape tool, but works best when used to combat spies. This little thing is most likely going to be used by Newer players or people pairing it with the Razorback for maximum Spy-combatance efficiency. Bushwacka : Essentially the Sniper Version of the Axtinguisher, except instead of fire, it crits off of mini-crits. This little hay-maker is going to obviously be with the Jarate and Carbine, and works well with both.The main people using this thing are either people that can pull off ridiculous and ballsy combos, or the guys trying to emulate those that can. On a side note, I generally see this thing being used by Snipers with goofy cosmetic loadouts that play Aggressively-defensive, or Defensively-aggressive (AKA they like to Ambush people when playing defense and bait people into really awkward places when playing offensive) Shahansha : Rarely used outside of x10 servers. Most people that use this probably just use it because it looks really cool honestly. It's another weapon that even newer players tend to avoid. It's honestly kind of a mediocre weapon that should really be buffed or reworked.

DDS: Really hates other snipers and does not realize most anti-sniper tactics are still extremely effective. Don't ask, had to go through an entire thread to find every anti-sniper tactic, and see if they still worked. The only anti-sniper tactic that changed was the quick-scope, in that instead of quick-scoping, you have to charge your shot from cover and ambush him when he's looking away. That is the only tactic that changed.

A few years back on 2Fort, was using Quick-Fix uber every time I encountered this airblast-spamming Pyro. They accused me of hacking (i corrected him by saying hackers actually do something "impressive", rather than abusing scripts in a pc game). They later got random crits almost every time they met someone - something that should be impossible considering they were slaughtered by a Heavy, Soldier and/or Scout each respawn (since they just ran at us). While they thought they had an advantage against us, they then just proceeded to get either airshot by Soldiers or headshot by Snipers (for some reason forgetting about airblast each airshot - guess tunnel vision was in effect). Their team knew and didn't kick them - they wanted to waste the Pyro's time and let them suffer (the whole enemy team memed during then by going full Carbine & Bushwacka and/or Steak & Warrior's Spirit). After ~10 mins they lost it, going on to rage spam kind of like that Spy soundsmith triggered in another vid. I was having a great time, since every moment they spent being destroyed by us was a moment not spent ruining a noob's day.

That brings back memories of a couple of script kiddies I trolled with my Quick Fix and Solemn Vow. With the megaheal and self-overheal of the QF i was able to close the distance a couple times and kill him on my own through his aimbot. A couple matches later I found another, sadly I didn't have time to properly troll him. Since he had it set up to ignore spies and Vac-ubers, my team had no trouble getting past him with my beautiful VAC-cinator. On the third round, I decloaked right behind him undisguised and went for the tauntkill, and he got VAC banned literally one frame before the final hit connected. It was the biggest killjoy in my entire time of playing TF2, but I guess I was asking for that to happen with that custom name.

With another vac medic and a chunk of heavies and soldiers (all with the battalions) we stomped over a full party of 8 aimbotters (7 sniper-bots and 1 heavy that seemed to be contolling them) that with 4 assholes helping them as enginner. Soon after, I faced THE aimot creator himself. He had two pocket medics with the vac and the qf, but my Direct hit one-shotted the vac medic before he could pop the uber, and another rocket cleaned them. From that i walked into their spawn with a battalion charge ready and started camping them until they quit after the third kill.

The non-HP-dependent damage resistance should be brought back as well as add a critical damage resistance so you aren't a glorified sniper target practice dummy anymore.

Not really. As of now, every Medic Melee is great, as long as you pair them with the correct Medigun: The Ubersaw is best for the stock, no surprises there. The Vitasaw is incomparably better if you use the Kritzkrieg. With stock, you can attempt to reach 100% and pop the Uber to escape, but the Kritzkrieg Uber won't help you directly at all, so you better at least ensure that your Uber build won't be in vain if a scunt comes by, or if a Pyro interrupts your crocket fest via airblast. The Solemn Vow pairs best with the Quick Fix (and MAAAAYBE the Blutsauger). These three items combined allow the Medic to get behind enemy lines with his roaming teammates and coordinate a rearguard attack. The Blutsauger is there because you will be in enemy territory more frequently, and you will need something to defend yourself more effectively, stand your ground while a Soldier or Demo comes in to rescue you, or finish off retreating enemies that your teammates cannot deal with at the moment, but even then the Crossbow is just plain better. Finally, my favorite Medic loadout: The Amputator is better paired with the Vaccinator. With the slower overheal you will want any help you can get for healing, and with his crazy fast Uber building mechanics, the Ubersaw and Vita-saw are unnecessary. Not to mention, popping four bubbles of the correct type and taunting essentially turns your entire team (minus you, unfortunately) invulnerable for 2 seconds.

The Machina- This guy will always go for a bodyshot, either because they want the pierce kill or because they can't headshot because their aim makes Leonard Church look like a professional marksman. Also they will usually have an SMG or the Cleaner's Carbine with them and they will NEVER unscope until they have 10 scouts up their asses. I should know, I'm this person.

The -10% swing speed is literally nothing to cry over. It is a stock bonesaw with a great upside that can help coordinate picks and help identify the time to push. I still use the Ubersaw, as it IS more useful overall, but Solemn Vow I’m organized play has a reason for being banned.

Third degree is super situational however. Telling your sniper friends who you can body shot and kill isn’t. Telling who is highest priority and should a spy need to, kill a Medic. Solemn Vow allows you to see enemy health AND enemy Ubercharge. This is great for knowing when they can pop and when it is safe to not.

And you dont see anyone complain about the third degree. As of now it is the only literal straight upgrade to stock.

If you've done 800+ damage in the past 20 seconds, you have a melee critical hit chance of a whopping 60%. So if you accumulate assist damage as Medic during healing, using your melee weapon will be worth it.
