Yes. I understand Rode's decision for designing the TX/mic to be clipped-on 'conceptually,' but in practice, every time I see someone use it like this, my focus is immediately drawn to it and absolutely distracts me. every. time. It screams: "I don't care. Look at me, I have gear. I'm an influencer. Yay!!!" ...at least to me.

Great tips, as always. I figured you'd have some issues with this video, since it's got some 'unconventional' techniques on display. I do wish these manufacturers would get rid of the branding on the visible portions of their 2.4GHz transmitters (or lavs). I understand why they feel it's in their favor, but it works against the end-user.

1:50 yeah that was a double take as well. Of course with the RODE products those little teeny transmitters are just so terribly hard to hide < sarcasm. that's one of the things I love about them provided their used with a wired lav, the directionality and 2.4 GHz nature on the other hand. 3:55 Yeah they're nice in a pinch having the microphone on them or as a back up if the cable comes unplugged, I look at them purely as transmitters unless I just want to clip it onto something purely to capture in the moment things. On the upside wearing black is slimming for your talent and it blends in! Yeah the newer model has way more lights on it! Interesting The originally only has 2 LEDs so maybe that was the better model? With mine I stuck a little label with my name and phone number and web address over there logo, I did print it with green 12mm label stock but I also don't plan on having it Visible (kind of like putting green tape on the boom mic). There's a few sellers selling blackout kits, although I really like the logo idea kind of like a Mic flag. Could probably use some inkjet printable stickers although I might back that with some gaff tape for easy removal of the cheap sticker adhesive. I am using one as a stick Mic I even made my own stick for it, I stick the little wind furry on and then put a full-fledged normal sized Mic foam over and it makes it feel like it's actually a microphone to users for in room questions. 7:00 whenever I have to hand something off to talent if it's metal I try to warm it up a bit by holding it in my hands ... (I can't think of anything to say next that's not gonna be misinterpreted). There was this one place that had wired Sony lavs and of course the cable for the mic is not detachable from the XLR unit. So you're handing them a giant chunk of metal that's gonna be ice cold from sitting in the closet that may or may not have to go down a shirt! 7:50 haha, technically Males have that option too although you really have to coordinate the outfits. 9:44 OK! they branded the clip! Time for some black nail polish. 13:00 I wonder if Australia has a different idea of gaffers tape, I know the UK considers gaffers tape to be what we consider duct tape not to be confused with aluminum duct work tape. Immediately upon seeing it it reminded me of gorilla tape but it's narrower than the 2 inch that I normally see hmmm. Yes definitely ask if they are allergic to latex and be aware of your products! More and more medical staff are becoming allergic to latex, so there is some attempt to transition away from it. I know somebody who will go in for a simple blood test and come out with a baseball size bruise just from the latex tape when they're not courteous. I don't know where I saw this but my favorite technique is to stick the tape to the back of your hand and pull it off a couple of times and that smooths out the harsh adhesive. 24:15 it's a "W" neck T-shirt! (gravity falls). What was the ad campaign for the company that was basically claiming that your T-shirt if it looks like the neck was stretched it wasn't washed (and how horrible to wear a shirt that wasn't washed) and that you should use their product.

As an Aussie that comes across a lot of "outdated" techniques and trends - including with fashion - it seems to be the way with our country and industry overall, until it seeps down from the pro film and tv circuit to the indie / freelance world haha Also love this sort of granular review of content, even if you and your experience & wisdom might jump ahead of things that might be mentioned shortly after you bring them up. It's reaffirming what you're saying and helps drive new info home to those of us still new to it all. 🤘🏻

Oh goody I'm glad I reloaded and noticed more comments. As an Aussie... Is your gaffers tape different? I was watching something and they were saying that in the UK they called what we call in the US duct tape gaffers tape. Yeah that's not confusing. I'm guessing that maybe Australia does the same thing? I guess I should clarify, for other readers. - duck tape is a plastic backed usually silver although comes in many colors now fabric like of tape. (invented to seal ammunition boxes). - aluminum or aluminium foil tape is used for duct sealing. ( heating cooling, even though the unintentioned use the previously mentioned "duck tape" for this purpose wrongly as it breaks down and just because is silver does it mean it goes on the silver stuff ). - Gaffers tape is a fabric backed natural adhesive tape that's easily removable and strong yet easily rip-able and grippable. (film and television industry).

@imark7777777 I'll be completely honest and say that I'm not entirely sure. So much of the products that we have available to us here are imported, and so we've quite likely got all types - US, UK, and other (possibly even some locally made ones, though that'd be rare these days lol) The gaff I've got in my kit isn't overly expensive and is the easy-tear fabric-based stuff that is REALLY tacky / gummy, while the types of silver tape that you'd get if specifically looking for "duct tape" definitely aren't easily 'torn' by hand, and so sounds very much like what you described and that we're following US conventions there. That being said, we are such a big bloody country and unless you're working on a professional set and don't have to source your own kit, it's entirely likely that you'll find one person in Queensland calling their tapes one thing, someone in NSW another, and in Victoria or Western Australia another name again. We're just fancy nutters like that!🤣

@@SoundSpeeds It showed up for me on a refresh of my sub feed and showed "12s ago"! Kinda cool, never had that before Appreciated the video very much! Watched the whole thing and found helpful. I lav mic pretty much everything I do bc it's simpler in my makerspace-office which transforms constantly. I don't have to hide it, but I've been thinking about it as a step up. If it's okay, I'd love any advice on my work if you've a second. Please don't if you don't have time, it's not a worry. Any ten seconds is representative, as it's a static shot all the way through. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2eniaCOarVpe5o (EDIT: Felt like it's relevant to note that this is passed through Adobe's podcast AI at 40%, which obviously affects the sound a lot.)
